INTRODUCTION
The DT381RP Rugged Tablet features the integraon of a LED-backlit, high-
brightness (800 nits) 8” touchscreen and a powerful Intel® Core™ i processor
within a slim, lightweight, and durable enclosure. With the built-in Wi-Fi, BT and
oponal advanced data capture modules, DT381RP is capable of operang at high
performance while providing opmized operang eciency. IP65 and MIL-STD-810H
cered, the DT381RP Rugged Tablet is ideal for operaons in harsh, mission-crical
environments.

OPERATION
Powering ON and OFF
To acvate DT381RP, push and quickly release the Power Buon. The display will come
on in a few seconds. To put the DT381RP in standby mode, push and quickly release
the Power Buon. To turn the DT381RP o for extended storage, power o safely using
any soware funcon that “shuts down computer” provided in the soware operang
system.
NOTE:
The baery packs shipped with your tablet may be low in power - please use
the AC-DC adapter with the DT381RP when seng up for the rst me to fully
charge the baery pack.
NOTE:
To conserve power, push and quick release the Power Buon to make the tablet
in standby mode while not in use. Pushing briey on the same bu on will wake
up the system.

PRECAUTIONS
• Always exercise care when operang and handling the DT381RP.
• Do NOT apply excessive pressure to the display screen.
• We recommend using the Digital Pen (oponal) to keep the screen clean.
• Avoid prolonged exposure of the display panel to any strong heat source.
Wherever possible, the DT381RP should face away from direct light to reduce
glare.
• If the AC-DC power adapter is used to recharge or power the tablet, do NOT
use any AC-DC adapter other than the one provided or acquired from the
manufacturer or its partners.
• In the unlikely event that smoke, abnormal noise, or strange odor is present,
immediately power o the DT381RP and disconnect all power sources. Report
the problem to your device provider immediately.
• Never aempt to disassemble the DT381RP, as this will void the warranty.
NOTE:
To obtain protecon consistent with any IP rang for the device, the I/O (audio,
power, USB, card reader, etc.) port doors must be closed. If the IP protecon is
compromised by mishandling or misuse, such as by leaving port doors open or
improperly closed, any resulng product damage will not be covered under any
DT Research warranty.
BASIC FEATURES
The DT381RP rugged tablet integrates a bright display, USB ports, and embedded
networking elements such as wireless LAN or oponal 4G.
A DT381RP typically integrates an 802.11ac wireless LAN (WLAN) adapter that may
connect to other wireless devices or access points. If your DT381RP does not come
with such a network adapter, please consult your device provider to establish the
desired network connecvity.

Start Up
If the power up (from Standby mode or otherwise) is successful, the appropriate
interface will be displayed aer a launch sequence of several seconds. The wireless
LAN connecon may take 10-15 seconds to be established.
NOTE:
When the baery pack is charging, the blue-colored Baery LED should blink
slowly. If plugging in the AC-DC adapter does not trigger this blinking acvity
and the LED stays dark, the baery pack(s) may have been drained substanally.
Unplug/replug the AC-DC adapter to the DT381RP a few mes to acvate the
charging process.
NOTE:
Avoid using the Power Buon (“hold 4+ seconds” feature) to turn o the
tablet—this form of hardware shutdown is intended to be a means of recovery
from lockups, and not as normal operaon.
Configuring the Rugged Tablet
The DT381RP may be congured using the ulies and methods dictated by the soware
operang system. The DT381RP should be congurable for various properes such as
user proles, network features, and several system elements.

The  is a graphics-based tool for managing the physical buons on DT
Research compung systems. Most of the DT Research devices have physical buons
that allow users to quickly access certain funcons and features, including Barcode
Scanner trigger, On-Screen keyboard, Windows Key, system volume/screen brightness
adjustment, and launching of user-dened applicaons. Some buons may be pre-
dened out-of-the-box to accommodate common uses.
For the convenience of the user, DT Research oers two applicaons to assist
in the conguraon of the Windows-based tablets. These comprise the Control
Center and the Buon Manager.
The applicaon can be launched from the Windows System Tray by tapping on the
icon to show the corresponding conguraon user interface (UI).
User could “Press, briey hold and release (Right-click)” the icon to
launch a pop-up menu. This pop-up menu allows user to choose from a selecon
of opons (e.g., About, Sengs, Help) related to the applicaon and its usage.
Notably, under Help, the user is able to view locally (on-device) a tutorial on the usage
of the tool or applicaon.
The  is a custom portal for accessing major system modules and sengs
on DT Research systems. Authorized users may enable/disable communicaon (e.g.,
Wi-Fi and oponal WWAN) and/or oponal producvity modules. All users have the
authority to manipulate the sengs related to display brightness, screen orientaon,
and touch modes to accommodate specic applicaons and user preferences.
The applicaon can be launched from the Windows System Tray. Tap on the Control
Center icon to launch the soware.

USING THE TABLET
To Hold the Tablet
Le hand: grip the le back side of the tablet with your
le hand four index ngers, with thumb resng on the
top of the back side of the tablet and palm securely
against the back.
Right hand: grip the right back side of the tablet with
your right hand four index ngers, with thumb resng
on the top of the back side of the tablet and palm
securely against the back.
Replacing the Battery Pack
1. Slide the baery latch to the unlocked posion.
2. Lift the battery pack off the compartment.
3. Fit another baery pack into place.
4. Slide the latch to the locked posion.

CAUTION:
There is danger of explosion if the baery is incorrectly replaced. Replace the
baery only with the Tablet manufacturer’s baery. Discard used baeries
according to the dealer’s instrucons.

Battery Usage and Maintenance
DT Research tablets and laptops are powered by lithium polymer baery packs in
proprietary form factors. Baery conguraons for the DT Research devices include
internal (bridge or backup), removable or swappable implementaons.
Baery usage cycles, or duraon between necessary re-charge, vary with a number
of factors, including device model, device usage paern and baery health/aging.
The DTR baery packs may be charged while aached to the device or when sepa-
rated from the device and docked in proprietary baery charging cradles. Following
the guidelines on good pracce below can help to keep a baery pack healthy and
prolong baery usage cycles and baery lifespan.
• Avoid high heat condions during operaon, idle, charging, and storage
states.
• Avoid leng the baery pack remain in very highly charged state or overly
low charged state for extensive periods of me. Keeping the baery capacity be-
tween 30% and 80% of maximum capacity is recommended. The prevailing baery
level(s) can be read from the Baery ulity within the Windows operang system.
• Avoid leng the baery be over-discharged or depleted. Over-discharge can
occur when a fully-discharged (0% level or thereabouts) baery pack is allowed to
remain in such a state for an extended period of me (weeks or months). The em-
bedded baery controls enter a protecon mode and recharging will be prevented
for safety reasons. To reduce the likelihood of over-discharge, consider recharging
idle baeries regularly to some level between 30%-80% of capacity.
• For long term storage, it is recommended that removable baery packs
be stored separated from the device. Otherwise, the system should be placed in
Shutdown mode. The baery level will decrease with me and it is recommended
that the baery packs be monitored or recharged every 2-3 months to maintain

Wireless Networking
Wireless LAN
The DT381RP is oen delivered with an embedded (user-inaccessible) 802.11ax LAN
adapter equipped with a hidden custom antenna.
• Through the support of typical WLAN adapters, the DT381RP should be able to
detect all 802.11 access points in the vicinity for you to select the access point of
your choice for connecon.
• The SSID and WEP/WPA/WPA2 (if enabled) parameters on the DT362G and the
access points have to match. The SSID is case-sensive and it is recommended
that you enable WEP/WPA/WPA2 encrypon (or advanced alternaves) for
secure access.
• When WEP/WPA/WPA2 is enabled, you may need to consult your network
administrator or your networking equipment literature to properly congure
associated sengs such as Authencaon mode, etc.
• Refer to the access point operang manuals for seng up the 802.11 access
points.

Federal Communication Commission Interference
This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a
Class B digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are
designed to provide reasonable protecon against harmful interference in
a residenal installaon. This equipment generates, uses and can radiate
radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with
the instrucons, may cause harmful interference to radio communicaons.
However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a parcular

television recepon, which can be determined by turning the equipment o

• Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna.
• Increase the separaon between the equipment and receiver.
• Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit dierent from that to
which the receiver is connected.
• Consult the dealer or an experienced radio/TV technician for help.

1. Use the key to unlock, and slide the latch on the boom of the Cradle to loosen the Top Clasp.
2. Insert the boom part of the Tablet into the cradle rst with the connector parts correctly
lined up.





3. When the boom of the Tablet is in place, push
the Tablet against the back and into the Cradle.
4. Push down on the Top Clasp, so the top poron
of the cradle slides down and locks into the
locked-down posion.
5. Lock the Cradle with the key.


The Tablet Mount Cradle supports VESA standard mounng opons (75 mm x 75 mm or
100 mm x 100 mm) so it can be easily aached onto a wall, in a vehicle, and on a VESA arm.
If using a 100 x 100 VESA stand or arm, the VESA Conversion Bracket is
needed. Please place the VESA Conversion Bracket on the back side of the Cradle,
and apply the four M4 screws.
