.0 Introduction
This manual escribes how to install a Surge
Protective Device (SPD) in parallel (shunt) across the
AC supply of the following types of electrical
systems:
• Single-Phase
• Split Phase
• Three-Phase Wye
• Three-Phase Delta
The SPD is esigne to be installe on service
entrance, branch panels, an /or in ivi ual
equipment isconnects, an functions to protect
sensitive electronic equipment from amaging
voltage transients. The connecting wires o not
carry supply current. Instea , they carry only
short- uration currents that are associate with a
transient event.
These instructions o not cover all etails,
variations, or combinations of the equipment, its
storage, elivery, installation, checkout, safe
operation, or maintenance. If you require further
information regar ing a particular application or
installation that is not covere in this manual,

Do not perform a high-pot test with the SPD
connecte to the electrical system. Failure to
isconnect the SPD uring a high-pot test will result
in amage to the SPD.
Do not install with lea length less than six (6)
inches.

2.0 Installation
Refer to Section 1.2 an look at the label on the SPD
to verify that the SPD’s voltage rating an wiring
configuration matches that of the electrical system.
Use an AC voltmeter to measure the system’s line
voltage to ensure that the correct mo el of SPD is
being installe . Damage to the SPD may result if it
is connecte to an electrical system of a higher
voltage or ifferent wiring configuration.
2. Mounting
The SPD is to be mounte irectly to the electrical
panel.
IMPORTANT!
• Choose a mounting location for the SPD that
provi es the shortest an straightest possible
wiring (but not less than six inches lea
length) from the SPD to the electrical system
connections. Excessive lea length an sharp
ben s will egra e SPD performance.
• If the electrical system uses an isolate
groun , the SPD must be isolate from
groun using insulate con uit fittings.
• When using con uit, avoi using 90° elbows
an keep the con uit run as short an straight
as possible.
Mount the SPD irectly to the electrical panel using
a 3⁄4” locknut as shown in Figure 2-1.
To maintain the enclosure’s NEMA 4X rating, install
an appropriate gasket (not inclu e ) between the
SPD an the Enclosure’s wall.

2. . Conduit Installation
When mounting the SPD out oors, use
weatherproof con uit an fittings to maintain the
enclosure’s NEMA 4X rating. See Figure 2-2.

2.2 Wiring
IMPORTANT!
• Be sure to follow all national, state, an local
electrical co es when making wiring
connections.
• When connecting the wires from the SPD to
the electrical system, cut the wires as
necessary to keep them as short as possible,
but not less than six inches.
• To maximize the SPD’s performance, twist
an bin the wires together to re uce the
impe ance of the wire (one twist/inch).
• If the system utilizes an isolate groun , the
SPD’s groun wire must be connecte to the
system’s isolate groun bus.
1. Locate the electrical system’s applicable
wiring iagram in Section 2.3. Reference this
wiring iagram as necessary in Steps 2, 3,
an 4.
2. Connect the SPD’s groun wire (green) to the
system’s groun connection. Delta an Wye
only.
3. Connect the SPD’s neutral wire (white) to the
system’s neutral connection (not require for
3-phase Delta an Wye systems).
4. Connect the SPD’s phase A, B, an C wires
(black) to the system’s correspon ing phase
A, B, an C connections accor ing to
applicable national, state, an local electrical
co es.
2.3 SPD Wiring Diagrams 3.0 Operation
3. Power Up and System Checkout
Apply system power. The Green LED shoul light. If
the connecte LED oes not light, remove power,
check connections, an test again. If the LED still
oes not light, contact your supplier.
3.2 Routine Operation
After system power has been applie , the SPD
automatically begins to protect own-stream
electrical evices from amaging voltage transients.
With all phase voltages present, the LED in icator
reports the status of the protection elements an is
active when all of them are intact an provi ing
protection. Any loss of protection is signale when
the LED turns from Green to Re .
The evice is not repairable an contains no user
serviceable parts. If the unit fails, as evi ence by
the LED turning Re , the unit must be replace .
Please contact your istributor as the SPD may be
un er warranty.
DO NOT use the Suppression Circuit Status LEDs as
an in ication of the presence or absence of system
phase voltages.
