PREPARATIONFORUSE
SPEAKERCONNECTION
Connecteachspeakertothe corresponding speakerterminalson the back panel
ofthe mainunit. Makesurethatthe left speakerisconnected tothe left pairof
speakerterminalsand the rightspeakertothe rightpairofspeakerterminals.Also
makesurethatthe speakerwiresarecorrectlyconnected:thatthe red wiresare
connected tothe red terminalsand the black wirestothe black terminals.
Depress the plasticlevertoopen the terminal,insertthe bareend ofthe speaker
wireintothe opening and release.
CONNECTINGTHEAC POWERCORD
Afterconnecting the speakersunwind theACpowercordfullyand connectittoany
convenienthouseholdACoutlet. Thissystemisdesigned tooperateon 120V,
60HzACpoweronly.Connecting thissystemtoanyotherpowersupplymay
causedamage tothe unitwhichisnotcovered byyourwarranty.
STEREOHEADPHONEJACK
Astereo headphone jack isprovided forprivatelistening.Tolisten tothe unitwith
headphones(notincluded)insertthe3.5mm mini-stereo plug fromthe headphones
intothe PHONES jack on the frontpanel.The externalspeakersareautomatically
disconnected when headphonesareinuse.
NOTE:
Werecommend thatyou reducethe volumecontroltoalowerlevelbeforeputting
ontheheadphones.Afterputtingon theheadphones,graduallyincreasethevolume
toacomfortablelistening level.

PRESETELECTRONICEQUALIZER
When the unitisswitched ‘On’forthe firsttime,the Equalizerwill be inthe “FLAT”
setting (FLATIndicator‘On’).Press “CLASSIC”,“POP”,or“ROCK”buttonsto
change the sound effecttosuityourtaste.The appropriateEQIndicatorlightsto
confirmyourselection.
BASS BOOSTSYSTEM
•The Bass Boostfeatureintensifieslowfrequency sound forricherbass
reproduction.
1.)Press the “BASS BOOST”button oncetoactivateBass Boost. The “B.B.S.”
indicatorwill lightup.
2.)Toturn‘Off’the “BASS BOOST”system,press the “BASS BOOST”button
again.The “B.B.S.”indicatorwill go ‘Off’.
NOTE:
If you arelistening tomusicwithheavybass athigh volume,withEQsetto“ROCK”
and BASS BOOST‘On’,you mayexperiencesomedistortion.If thisoccurs,set
the EQto“FLAT”,switchthe BASS BOOST‘Off’,orreducethe volume.

RADIOOPERATION
•Press the “POWER”button toturnthe system‘On’.
•Press the “TUNER/BAND”button toselectthe ‘Radio’mode.
•Selectthe RadioBand (AM/FM)bypressing the “TUNER/BAND”button.
•Press the “TUNING”or“TUNING”buttonstotune tothe desired
station.
•Adjustthe Volumeand Equalizercontrolsasdesired.
MANUALTUNING
•Press the “TUNING”or“TUNING”buttonsasmanytimesasrequired
until the frequency ofthe desired station appearson the display.
AUTOMATICTUNING
•Holdthe “TUNING”or“TUNING”buttonsforapproximately2seconds.
The Tunerwill beginscanning up ordownautomaticallyand will lock ontothe
nextstrong signal.
MEMORIZINGPRESETSTATIONS
You can storeup to40 ofyourfavoriteFMand AMstationsrandomly.Oncea
station ispresetinthe memory,you will havequick and easyaccess tothatstation.
1.)Press the “TUNER/BAND”button toselectthe ‘Radio’mode.
2.)Selectthe band (AM/FM)bypressing the “TUNER/BAND”button.
3.)Selectthe desired station bypressing the “TUNING”or“TUNING”
buttons.
4.)Press the “MEMORY”button.The memoryindicatorwill flashinthe display.
5.)Press the “MEM.UP”or“MEM.DOWN”button toselectanyone ofthe 40
availablepresetstation memories.
6.)Press the “MEMORY”button againtoenterthe selected radiostation intothe
selected memorylocation.
7.)Repeatthe abovesteps2–6toenterall yourdesired stationsintothe preset
station memories.

Afteryou haveentered up to40 stationsinthe presetmemories,you can select
anyone ofthe memorized stationsquicklyand easilybysimplypressing the “MEM.
UP”or“MEM.DOWN”buttonsuntil the desired memorynumberand station
frequency appearinthe display.
ANTENNA INFORMATION
•ForbestFMreception,the FMlead wireantenna,located on the back ofthe
set, shouldfullyunwound and extended.
•TheAMbarantenna isinside the cabinet. ToimproveAMreception,you may
havetomoveorslightlyrotatethe mainunituntil you obtainthe bestreception.
COMPACTDISCPLAYBACK
Thissystemfeaturesacarouseltype 5-CDCHANGERwhichcan provide you with
up to5hoursofuninterrupted musicplayback.You mayload up to5CDsinthe
changerforcontinuousplayback,oryou mayprogramup to40 tracks among all 5
discs tobe played back inthe specificorderyou select.
LOADINGTHEDISCS
1.)Press the “POWER”button toturnthe system‘On’.
2.)Press the “CD/DISCSKIP”button toselectthe CD mode.
3.)Press the “OPEN/CLOSE”button toopen the CD tray.When the trayopens
twoofthe fiveCD pocketswill be accessibletoyou.Load up to2CDsinthe
pocketsmaking surethatthe labelside ofthe discs faceup and thatthe discs
arecorrectlycentered inthe pockets.
4.)Press the “CD/DISCSKIP”button torotatethe CDtrayand exposethe 3rd4th,
and 5thCDpocket. Insertadditionaldiscs inthe open pocketsifdesired.
5.)Press the “OPEN/CLOSE”button toclosethe CD tray.The CD playerwill
searchforthe firstdisc and the displaywill showthe numberoftracks and total
playing timeofthatdisc.
NOTES:
•Keep the CDdisc trayclosed when the systemisnotinusetopreventdirtand
dustfromentering the CD mechanism.
•Neverplacemorethan one CDinthe samepocketofthe CDtray.If twodiscs
areloaded inthe samepocket, the CD mechanismmayjamand /orthe discs
themselvesmaybe damaged.

TOBEGINCD PLAYBACK
Afteryou haveloaded up the 5CDsinthe changer:
1.)Press the PLAY/PAUSE button tobeginplayback.The changerwill search
forthe firstavailabledisc inthe trayand will beginplayback fromTrack 1on
the firstdisc.The numberofthe disc being played flasheson the display.It will
continue playing until ithasplayed all ofthe discs inthe trayand then stops
automatically.
NOTE:Tobeginplayback fromaspecificdisc,press the “CD/DISCSKIP”
button toselectthe desired disc,and then press the PLAY/PAUSE button.
Or,press the appropriatedisc button (DISC1,DISC2,DISC3,DISC4,
DISC5.)forthe disc you wishtostart. Playback will beginon Track 1ofthe
selected disc.It stopsautomaticallyafterfinished playing all discs.
2.)Adjustthe “VOLUME”control‘Up’or‘Down’asdesired.
3.)Totemporarilystop playback,press the PLAY/PAUSE button again.The
“II”indicatorappearsinthe display.The disc continuestospin,butno sound
isheard.Press the PLAY/PAUSE button oncemoretocancelpauseand
resumeplayback.
4.)Tostop playback beforethe end ofadisc,press the STOPbutton.
IMPORTANT
If the disc issmudged orscratched itmayskiporstop completely.Thisdoesnot
indicateaproblemwiththe player.If thisoccurs,tryplaying anotherdisc.If that
disc plays properly,you mayassumethatthe firstdisc isdamaged and unplayable.

FORWARD AND BACKWARD SKIP/SEARCH BUTTONS
Toskipforwardorbackwardtothe beginning ofaparticulartrack during playback,
press the orSkipbuttonsrepeatedlyuntil the desired track numberappears
on the display.Playback will beginon the desired track.
Tosearchforaparticularpassage on atrack during playback,press and holdthe
orSearchbuttons.The playerwill searchrapidlyforwardorback.Releasese
thebutton whenyoureachthedesiredpointonthetrack andnormalspeedplayback
will resumeatthatpoint.

Whilethe CD isplaying,eachtimeyou press the “remain”button on the Remote

anydesired order.
NOTE:You can notprogramthe CD changerduring playback.If adisc isplaying

Entering AProgram
•Press the “MEMORY”button once.
The MEMORY,the track number
indicatorswill flashinthe display.
•Press the “CD/DISCSKIP”button or
one ofthe fivedisc buttonstoselect
the disc whichcontainsthe firsttrack
you wishtoprogram.
Example:Disc 2.
•Press the orTrack Skipbuttonss
toselectthe firsttrack you wishto
program.

toreconfirmthatthe information hasbeen stored correctly.The displaywill show
you whichdisc and track numberyou haveentered intoprogrammemory
Number1.Eachtimeyou pushthe “MEMORY”button the displaywill showyou
whichdiscnumberand track numberisstored ineachsuccessivememorylocation.
PROGRAMMEDPLAYBACK
Afteryou havestored and confirmed the programinformation,press the
PLAY/PAUSE button tobeginprogrammed playback.Playback will startatthe
firstdisc and track whichyou haveprogrammed and will continue until all
programmed discs and tracks (up toatotalof40)havebeen played.
NOTE:If you press the orSkipbuttonsduring programmed playback,the
playerwill skipforwardorback tothe nexttrack and disc whichyou have
programmed,notthe nexttrack on the disc whichisbeing played.
TOCLEAR THEPROGRAMMEMORY
If the disc isplaying,press the STOPbutton tostop the discs.Then press the
STOPbutton againtoclearthe programmemory..
REPEATFUNCTION
Thissystemhasafour-wayrepeatfunction whichallowsyou tocontinuouslyrepeat
one track,one disc,all discs,orall ofthe tracks whichyou haveprogrammed.
1.)ONETRACK REPEAT
•Press the “REPEAT”button until the Indicatorappearsinthe CD
display.
•Usethe “SKIP”buttons(and the “CD/DISCSKIP”button,ifnecessary)to
selectthe exacttrack thatyou wishtorepeat.
•Press the PLAY/PAUSE button tobeginone track repeat. The selected
track will beginplaying.It will repeatcontinuouslyuntil function is
cancelled.

•Press the “REPEAT”button until the Indicatorappearson the CD
display.Press the “CD/DISCSKIP”button toselectthe disc you wishtoplay.
•Press the PLAY/PAUSE button.The selected disc will begintoplaystarting
withTrack 1.When the finaltrack on the disc hasbeen played,itwill
automaticallybeginplaying againstarting withTrack 1.
•TocancelOne Disc Repeatplayback,press the “REPEAT”button until the
Indicatorno longerappearsinthe Display.
3.)ALL DISCSREPEAT
•Press the “REPEAT”button until the Indicatorappearsinthe Display.
•Press the PLAY/PAUSE button,the changerwill beginplaying the first
track ofthe disc whichisinthe playposition.It will continue until ithasplayed
all tracks on all discs inthe changer.When ithasplayed the lasttrack on the
lastdisc itwill beginplaying againwiththe firsttrack on the firstdisc.ThisAll
Discs Repeatwill continue indefinitely.
•TocancelAll Discs Repeatplayback,press the “REPEAT”button until the
Indicatorno longerappearsinthe Display.
4.)REPEATOFF
Press the “REPEAT”Button until the Indicatordisappearsand the
displayshows.
5.)PROGRAMREPEAT
•Load up to5CDsinthe changerand programup to40 tracks intothe CD
ProgramMemory.

INTROSCAN
The IntroScan featureletsyou heara10 second introduction ofeachtrack on a
disc.Thisfeatureisusefulifyou aretrying tofind aparticularsong butyou do not
knowthe title.
•Press the “INTRO”button once.The INTROIndicatorappearsinthe display.

RANDOMPLAYBACK
The RandomPlayback featureisusefulwhenyou wantto‘mixupthemusic’instead
ofplaying all the tracks innumericalorder.
•Press the “RANDOM”button once.The RANDOMIndicatorappearsinthe
display.
•Press the PLAY/PAUSE button.The changerwill randomlyselectthe first
disc and track tobe played.It will continue randomlyselecting discs and tracks
until all tracks on all discs haveplayed,and then stop.
•TocancelRandomPlayback,press the “RANDOM”button again.The
RANDOMIndicatordisappearsand normalplayback resumes.
NOTE:If you press the “RANDOM”button whileadisc isplaying,the Random
selection will beginatthe end ofthe track being played.

ThisEmerson AudioSystemfeaturesadualcassettemechanismwhichallows
you toplaypre-recorded cassettetapesineitherDeck AorDeck B.You mayalso
load tapesinbothdecks forcontinuousautomaticplayback oftwocassettes.You
maymaketape recordingsdirectlyfromthe stereo receiver,the CD changer,the
Turntable,orexternalsourceconnected tothe AUXINPUTjacks,oreven from
Tape toTape (Dubbing)ateithernormalorhigh speed.The builtinALC(Automatic
LevelControl)systemadjuststhe volumefordistortion-free recordings.You can
change the playback volumecontrolsettingsduring recordingswithouteffecting
the volumeofthe finalrecording.
Forbestresultsalways usegood qualityblanktapesforrecording.Although blank
tapesareavailablewithvariousrecording timeswerecommend thatyou do not
usetapeslongerthan C-90 whichcontain90 minutesofrecording time(45 minutes
perside).LongertapessuchasC-120’s (60 minutesperside)usethinnermaterial
whichmayeventuallystretchand can becometangled inthe mechanism.Keep
the criticalpartsofthe tape mechanismsclean toinsuretroublefree operation.

thismanual.
CASSETTEPLAYBACK
1.)Press the “POWER”button toturnthe system‘On’.
2.)Press the “TAPE”button toselectthe ‘Tape’function.The “TAPE”indicator
appearsinthe display.
3.)Press the “STOP/EJECT”keyon eitherDeckAorDeck Btoopen the cassette
door.
4.)Insertthe pre-recorded cassetteintothe slotson the doorwiththe exposed
tape facing downand the full reelon the left. Closethe cassettedoor.
5.)Press the “PLAY”keytobeginplayback ofyourtape.
6.)Adjustthe “VOLUME”and “BASS BOOST”orpresetEQasdesired.
7.)Press the “STOP/EJECT”keytostop playback atanytime.When the tape
endsthe AutomaticStop Systemwill releasethe “PLAY”keyand shutoff the
tape motor.
8.)Press the “STOP/EJECT”keyagaintoopen the cassettedoorand remove
yourtape.

FASTFORWARD AND REWIND BUTTONS
Press either“F.FWD”or“REWIND”keyatanytimetomovethe tape rapidlyforward
orback toanyspecificpoint. When you reachthe desired pointpress the “PLAY”
keyagaintoresumenormalplayback atthatpoint.
Note:TheAutomaticStop Systemdoes notfunction intheFastForwardor
Rewind modes.If you fastforwardorrewind tothe end orbeginning ofthe tape,
the “F.FWD”or“REWIND”keys will remainengaged and the tape motorcontinues
torun.Besuretopress the “STOP/EJECT”keytocancelFastForwardorRewind
and shutoff the tape motor.
PAUSE BUTTON
Press the “PAUSE”keytomomentarilystop the tape movementinPlayback or
Recording modes.The tape movementstopsbutthe tape motorcontinuestorun.
Press the “PAUSE”keyagaintocancelPauseand resumenormalplayback.
NOTE:The “PAUSE”keyhasno effectinthe FastForwardorRewind modes.
CONTINUOUSPLAYBACK OFTWOCASSETTES
1.)Insertpre-recorded cassettesinbothdecks withthe tape you wishtohearfirst
inDeck B.
2.)Press “PLAY”keyofDeck B,then press the “PAUSE”keyand “PLAY”keyof
Deck A.
3.)ThetapeinDeckBwillstartplaying.WhenthetapeinDeckBends,the“PAUSE”
keyofDeck Areleasesautomaticallyand the tape inDeck Abeginstoplay.
4.)When the tape inDeckAendsbothmechanismsstop.Toplaythe othersides,
turnbothtapesoverand repeatSteps1and 2above.

1.)Raisethe turntabledustcover.
2.)Releasethe TonearmClamp,and removethe stylusprotector.
3.)Press the AUX/PHONObutton toselectthe Phono mode.
4.)Placearecordon the turntable,overthe centralspindle.
5.)Placethe 45 rpmadapteroverthe centralspindlewhen playing
45 rpmrecords.Setthe Speed SelectorSwitchto33,45 or78 rpm
according tothe recordyou areplaying.
6.)Movethe tonearmtothe beginning ofthe record,ortothe start
ofaparticulartrack.Gentlylowerthe Tonearmontothe recordto
startplaying.Adjustthe Volume,Bass Boost,and Equalizersetting
asdesired.
7.)The Turntablewill stop automaticallywhen the recordfinishes.To
stop the recordbeforeitends,lift and replacethe Tonearmcarefully
ontothe TonearmRest.
NOTE:Donotturnorstop the turntablemanually.Moving orjarring
the Turntablewithoutsecuring the Tonearmclampcouldresultindamage
tothe Tonearm.
