Note
Use this section if other devices appear on the segment, communicate, and remain on the segment. If
other devices don't appear on the segment, communicate, or stay on the segment, the electrical
characteristics of the segment should be checked. See Table 5 on page 7.
Table 5. Troubleshooting Guide
1. The corrective actions should be done with consultation of the system integrator.
2. Refer to wiring and installation 31.25 kbit/s, voltage mode, wire medium application guide AG-140 available from the FieldComm Group.
5.5 Alarms and conditions
Detailed tables of the possible messages that will appear on either the LCD display, a Field
Communicator, or a PC-based configuration and maintenance system are listed below. Use Table 6,
Table 7, Table 8, and Table 9 to diagnose particular status, maintenance, and function messages.
Symptom Recommended actions(1)
Device does not show
up on segment
Device power
1. Cycle power to device.
2. Ensure the device is connected to the segment.
3. Check voltage at terminals. There should be 9-30 V (9-17.5 V for FISCO).
4. Ensure the device is drawing current. There should be approximately 17 mA.
Segment
1. Remove other devices from segment to check for interfering devices.
Incompatible network settings
1. Change host network parameters. Refer to host documentation for procedure.
Electronics failing
1. Electronics board or terminal block loose in housing.
2. Replace electronics.
Device does not stay
on segment
Signal levels
1. Check for two terminators.
2. Check for excess cable length.
3. Check for bad power supply or conditioner.
Segment noise(2)
1. Check for incorrect grounding.
2. Check for correct shielded wire.
3. Tighten all wiring and shield connections on the affected part of the segment.
4. Check for corrosion or moisture on terminals.
Electronics failure
1. Check for loose electronics board in housing.
2. Check for water in the terminal housing.
3. Replace electronics.
