Features
The One Way Glide Long (OWG Long) is a device used to
maintain the client in a correct seated position, reducing
shear and friction that can cause decubitus and reduc-
ing the risk of shear and friction during manual handling
(moving the client backwards in the chair) by minimising
the pull on the skin.
The OWG Long is ideal for use when the client needs
repositioning repeatedly. If the wheelchair can be tipped,
the client can glide with the minimum of assistance back
into the correct seated position.
Alternatively, the functional handles can be attached to
the lift. The carer stands in front of the client, supporting
and guiding the client easily while the lift slowly rises.
Thank you for choosing an Etac product.
To avoid accidents and injury when moving and handling
the products, read the manual carefully.
The person described as "the client" in this user manual is
the person who is lying or sitting on the product. The carer
or carers are the people who manoeuvre the product.
The products comply with the standards applicable for
Class 1 products in the European Council Directive MDD
93/42/EEC on medical devices.
This symbol appears alongside the text in
the manual. It draws the reader's attention
to points at which there may be a risk to the
health and safety of the client or carer.

Use
Positioning
Position the OWG Long in the chair before the client.
The OWG Long can be positioned in three different ways.
Fold the OWG in the middle so that the green velvet sides
are up and down. Push the functional handle out be-
tween seat and back. If this is not possible, with the OWG
still folded, push the top part and the functional handle
up over the chair back.
Use
The client has glided forwards in the wheelchair (Illustra-
tion 1).
The carer leans the client forward to alter the pressure
points – the client's back must be free of the chair back.
If the client has poor balance, he/she can be supported
using a positioning wedge or pillow, Alternatively, a carer
can support the client from the front.
The carer behind the chair can support the client with one
or both hands on the client's shoulders. The carer treads
down on the functional handle and the client glides
slowly back into position. This can be repeated if neces-
sary (Illustration 2).
The carer can also stand in front of the client. By giving
the client a slight push, the client will glide back in the
chair. A ”thigh walk" technique can also be used (Illustra-
tions 3 and 4).
If there is no free space between the chair seat and the
chair back, position OWG up over the chair back (Illustra-
tion 3). To glide the client forwards, the client is first leant
forwards (as above). The carer behind the chair grasps the
functional handles along the edge of the pillow and leans
back, while the client glides slowly back into the original
position.
The carer can also use the "thigh walk" technique or help
the client move backwards, standing in front of the client.
Alternatively, the functional handle can be hung up on
the slingbar. This method is the best way in which to
reposition the client with minimum strain on the car-
ers. The carer raises the lift and pushes the client gently
backwards.
NB: Be aware of the client's centre of balance so that the
client does not roll forward and out of the chair.
Remember to apply the brake to lock the wheelchair
before using OWG.
There is no need to remove OWG after use.
Finally, unfold the OWG so that only one layer remains
with the functional handle up over the chair back. The
green velvet side should be facing the client.
Position the client as normal in the chair.

Use
Always check the product before use and after washing.
Never use a defective product. If the product shows signs
of wear-and-tear, it must be scrapped.
Read these instructions carefully.
It is important that carers receive instruction in manual
handling.
Etac offers advice and training for carers.
For further information, contact Etac.
Always use the correct manual handling techniques.
Remember to use the client's resources.
Special features
Never leave OWG Long on the floor.
The material under OWG must be a fabric onto which the
velvet surface can "grip".
Clothing material (trousers/skirt) – if this material is
smooth, it will glide on the velvet top side!
Care is needed to avoid reddening of the skin in clients
who are at risk of developing decubitus.
To ensure that the client feels safe and that every manual
handling is smooth, always plan the manual handling in
advance.
If in any doubt - please contact Etac.
The pillow consists of a single layer with a velvet top side
quilted to a nylon backside with 2 velvet strips and a
black nylon functional handle.
The product should be checked regularly, preferably each
time it is used, and especially after wash.
Check that there is no damage to seams or fabric.
Never try to repair a product yourself. Never use
a defective product.
Washing instructions:
Do not use fabric softener – as this will reduce the glide
effect.
