Congratulations on the purchase of your IRiS Balance Beam!
The IRiS Balance Beam has been designed specifically for people with special needs and should, if
used in accordance with these guidelines, offer years of switching, learning and fun!
The IRiS Balance Beam offers endless opportunities to develop numerous skills including colour
recognition, cause and effect, hand to eye co-ordination, gross and fine motor skills and many more.
The IRiS Balance Beam is an IRiS Talker and can control any number of IRiS Listeners. Put simply, it is
operated by standing, sitting or leaning on any of the coloured sections, which act as switches.
Please ensure you read this Instruction Manual in full before operating the unit.

Getting Started
1. Simply press (stand, sit or lean on) any of the coloured sections on the IRiS Balance Beam.
Each colour is a switch that will control the products that the IRiS Balance Beam is paired to.
2. To pair the IRiS Balance Beam to a product please refer to the ‘Pairing to IRiS Listeners’
section in this manual.
Pairing to IRiS Listeners
This procedure is split into 2 sections, one for those who do not have an IRiS Master Pairer and for
those who do.
Without an IRiS Master Pairer
Every IRiS Listener has a button on it called a pairing button. To get the IRiS Balance Beam to work
with a product, first decide which product you want to control then find the pairing button on that
product and press it. You then need to press any switch (coloured section) on the IRiS Balance Beam
within 5 seconds. The IRiS Listener will now change colour every time you activate a switch (coloured
section) if correctly paired. The unit will now work with the IRiS Balance Beam.
With an IRiS Master Pairer
To get the IRiS Balance Beam to work with a product, first decide which unit you want to control and
find its pairing button on the IRiS Master Pairer and press it. You then need to press any switch
(coloured section) on the IRiS Balance Beam within 5 seconds. The IRiS Listener will now change
colour every time you activate a switch (coloured section) if correctly paired. The unit will now work
with the IRiS Balance Beam.

Installing Batteries
1. Turn the IRiS Balance Beam over so the bottom is facing upwards.
2. Locate the black battery compartment.
3. Press the 2 outer tabs towards the middle to release the battery drawer.
4. Remove the old batteries.
5. Replace with 4 x new AA batteries, taking care to ensure the polarity is as indicated inside
the battery drawer.
6. Replace the battery drawer.
7. You will feel a click when the drawer is home properly. Also the LED will flash twice.
8. Turn the IRiS Balance Beam the correct way up.
IMPORTANT: BATTERY INFORMATION
Please retain this information for future reference.
Batteries should be replaced by an adult.
CAUTION:
Always follow the instructions carefully. Use only batteries specified and be sure to insert them
correctly by matching the + and –polarity markings.
Do not mix old batteries and new batteries.
Experia recommend the use of alkaline batteries.
Remove exhausted or dead batteries from the product.
Remove batteries if product is not to be played with for a long time.
Do not short circuit the supply terminals.
RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES: Do not mix these with any other types of battery. Always remove
from the product before recharging.
Recharge batteries under adult supervision.
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO RECHARGE NON-RECHARGABLE BATTERIES.
Cleaning and Maintenance
The unit should be cleaned with a damp soft cloth. A non-abrasive cleaning agent may be used for
stubborn stains. Ensure no liquid enters the unit.

Troubleshooting
Q. The unit doesn’t work.
1. Have you changed the batteries?, If so, see 2
