Congratulations on the purchase of your IRiS Scanner!
The IRiS Scanner has been designed specifically for people with special needs and should, if used in
accordance with these guidelines, offer years of switching learning and fun!
The IRiS Scanner offers endless opportunities to develop numerous skills including colour
recognition, cause and effect, and many more.
The IRiS Scanner is an IRiS Listener and can be controlled by any number of IRiS Talkers.
Please ensure you read this Instruction Manual in full before operating the unit.
Heed all warnings on the product and within this manual. If upon receipt of this product, the user
suspects that the product is defective, and/or requires service or repair due to malfunction or
damage to the product, please contact the manufacturer immediately. Please be aware that
improper installation and/or use or misuse of this product may result in injury, death, or adverse
reactions to its user. This product is intended to be installed and/or use by a trained professional.

Getting Started
1. Using the ‘Y’ IEC cable, connect either IEC to the Scanner and the IRiS control box.
2. Connect the XLR cable from the control box to the DMX IN on the scanner
3. Connect the standard plug to a suitable mains outlet.
4. The unit will now illuminate and scroll through the standard IRiS colours before going out.
5. Now it’s ready to use.
6. Decide which Talker you want to control the IRiS Scanner with then go to the Pairing section.

Pairing to IRiS Listeners
This procedure is split into 2 sections, one for those who do not have an IRiS Master Pairer and for
those who do.
Without an IRiS Master Pairer
Every IRiS Listener has a button on it called a pairing button. To get the IRiS Scanner to work with a
product, first turn on the IRiS Scanner then decide which IRiS Talker you want to control it with –in
this example we use the IRiS Lightwand but all pairing works in the same manner.
Next find the pairing button on the bottom of the IRiS Scanner and press it. You then need to
activate the IRiS Lightwand within 5 seconds (in this case you would press the button on the
Lightwand). If correctly paired, the light from the IRiS Scanner will now change colour every time you
press the button and will move around the room when you move the joystick on the Lightwand. If it
does not, then repeat the above.
To put the unit into Calming mode, press the pair button on the front of the control box and do not
activate any IRiS Talker, the light from the Scanner will now change colour and move around the
room on its own.
With an IRiS Master Pairer
To get the IRiS Scanner to work with a product, first turn on the IRiS Scanner then decide which IRiS
Talker you want to control it with –in this example we use the IRiS Lightwand but all pairing works in
the same manner. Then find the button on the IRiS Master Pairer that corresponds with the Scanner
and press it. You then need to activate the IRiS Lightwand within 5 seconds (in this case you would
press the button on the Lightwand). If correctly paired, the light from the IRiS Scanner will now
change colour every time you press the button and will move around the room when you move the
joystick on the Lightwand. If it does not, then repeat the above.
To put the unit into Calming mode, find the button on the IRiS Master Pairer that corresponds with it
and press it. Do not activate any IRiS Talker. The light from the Scanner will now change colour and
move around the room on its own.

Cleaning and Maintenance
The unit should be cleaned with a damp soft cloth. A non-abrasive cleaning agent may be used for
stubborn stains. Ensure no liquid enters the unit.
The unit has been designed for use by people with special needs however this does NOT mean it is
unbreakable.
Troubleshooting
Note –There are a bank of 10 DIP switches one the scanner. These must not be moved from the
setting of 1 ON, 2 to 10 OFF, changing these will stop the IRiS box from controlling the scanner.
