Unpacking
TheseDryBathIncubatorsareshippedina sin^ecarton,
complete^assembled.Eachissuppliedwiththismantial,
awarrantycard,anda DryBlockHandle(forhandling
ormovingdryblocks).Thewarrantycardshouldbe
completedandretumedassoonaspossible.Incases
whereshippingdamageisobserved,keeptheunitand
cartonintact,includingthepackagingmaterials,andfile
aclaimwiththefinalcarrier.
Note;Becauseofthewidevarietyofapplicationsand
sampleblockdesigns,dryblocksarenotincludedwith
drybaths.Theusermustselectandordertheblocks
thatbestsuittheptirticularapplication.
OPERATION
Efichdrybathisequippedwithtwotemperaturecontrols
(thermostats),a selectorswitch,anda red-lensedlamp
whichindicatesheateroperation.Thelampcomeson
whenthecontrollingthermostat,asselectedbythe
switch,closestosupplypowertotheheater.Oncethe
drybathreachesthennalequilibrium,the(yclingofthe
lamp,
andtheheater,shouldcontinueona regular,
basis.
Incaseofa malfunction,suchasa heaterfailureor
thermostatstuckintheclosedposition,thelampwill
remain

Placetheimitona flat,levelsurface,inanareafree
ofdrailsandtemperaturechanges.(Note;Draftsand
ambienttemperaturechangeswilladverselyaffect
temperattureconstancyanduniformity.)

Makesurethatbathcavityisfreeofforeignmatter,
thenplaceemptydryblock(s)intobathcavity.
3.
Connectunittoanappropriate,grotmdedpower
sourceasspecifiedontheunit'sdataplate.
4.
Insertanimmersiontypethermometer,graduatedto
thedesiredtemperaturerange,intothethermometer
wellinthediyblock.Note;Formoreprecise
measurements,thethermometercanbeplacedinto
thesampletubeora similartubeadjacenttothe
sampletube.
5.
Setthethree-positionswitchattheappropriate
setting: liow"settingforambientto60C
"Hii^"
settingfor60Cto130C
6.Ac^usttheappropriatetemperaturecontroltoa
settingthatapproximatesthedesiredtemperature.
Thefollowingcanbeusedasa generalguideline.On
theLowtemperaturecontrola settingof

Asthedrybathisheating,monitorthetemperature
readingonthethermometerandobservetheindicator
lamp.
Ifthethermometerreadingexceedsthedesired
temperature,reducethetemperaturecontrolsetting.
Whenthelampcyclesonandoffatregularintervals
(or"flickers"),theunithasreachedequilibrium.Ifthe
drybathisnotatthedesiredtemperature,ac|jiistthe
temperaturecontrolintheappropriatedirection.
8.Oncethedrybathhasstabilizedatthedesired
temperature,samplesmaybeinsertedintotheblocks.
9.UsetheDryBlockHandletoremoveblocks.
BesurethattheDryBlockHandleissecurelyengaged
withtheblockbeforeliftingitfromthebath.-

groundedpowersourcesoftheappropriate
voltage.
-Neverheatsamplesbeyondsafelevels.

heated.

-TumtheSelectorSwitchtotheOffposition
andunplugunitwhennotinuse.
FORBESTRESULTS:

-Allsamplesshouldbeplacedinidenticaltubes,filled
toequallevelsnohigherthantopofblock.Allsiunple
tubesshouldbeplacedinidenticalblocks.
MAINTENANCE
Thesedrybathsrequirenoperiodicmaintenanceother
thanroutinecleaningwithmildcleaningproducts.Be
sureunitsaretmpluggedpriortocleaning.Neveruse
abrasivesorharshchemicalstocleanunits.Never
immersetinitsinliqtiidsorpourliqtiidsontothedry
blocksupportplate.

Loosensetscrewseuidremovetemperattirecontrol
knobs.
2.
Tumtmitupside-downandremovefourscrews.
3.
Removebasebyfirst liftingatrear,thenmoving
forwardtodeartemperaturecontrolstems.
4.
Notetheroutingofwiresandthelocationofinsulation
sothattheunitcanbepropertyre-assembled.
5.
Carefultyremoveinsulation.
ThermostatReplacement
1.
(Optional)RemovescrewsthatattachHeaterBase
AssembtytotheTopCoverAssembly.
2.
Observewiringconnections,thenremovetwowires
connectedtoappropriatethermostat.
3.
Removefastenerholdingthermostatinplace,then
removethermostat.
4.
Connectwirestonewthermostatandinstall.
5.
Re-attachHeaterBaseAssemblyifithasbeen
removed.
6.Positionbaseontouiutandcheckalignmentof
thermostatshaftwithcenterofholeinfrontofbase.
Removebaseandrepositionthermostatasrequired,
thentightensecurely.
HeaterReplacement
1.
Thebeaterispermanentlybondedtothedryblock
supportplate,andcanonlybereplacedasa pre-
assembledunit.Thisassemblyiscalleda HeaterBase
Assembly.
2.
Removethefastenerswhichattachthethermostatsto
thedryblocksupportplate.
3.
Removethefastenersthatattachthedryblock
supportplatetothedrybathtopcoverassembly.
4.
Locateandremovethesplicesattheendoftheheater
leads.

Cormectthenewheaterleads,makingsurethatthe
coimectionsaresecureandproperlyinsulated.
6.Attachthenewdryblocksupportplateand
thermostats(seeThermostatReplacementsection).
SelectorSwitchorIndicatorLampReplacement
1.
Notewiringcoimectionsofdevicetobereplaced,then
removewires.
2.
Squeezetabsthatholddeviceinplace,thenpushout
throughfrontofbase.
3.
Installnewdeviceintoappropriateholeinbase.
4Reconnectwires.
