Fujikura FSR-02 Recoater Basic Operation Manual
1. PURPOSE
The purpose of this instruction manual is to provide basic instructions on the common functions of the FSR-02
recoater. The FSR-02 is used to recoat and proof test optical fiber splices.
2. SCOPE
This instruction manual applies to all work stations and operators involved with optical fiber splicing at Widget
Associates.
3. OPERATING THE FSR-02 RECOATER

Press and hold the ON/OFF
button to turn on the
recoater.
The resetting function
takes a few moments to
complete.

Allow the recoater to warm
up.
The mold must be closed
for the warm up function
to proceed.

Open the fiber clamps and
mold.
The protective tissues
must be removed from
the opened clamps
before laying fiber into
the recoater.

Hold the spliced fiber taut
and lay the fiber across the
recoater from left to right.
Make sure the fiber is
centered in the foam
guides at the outer ends
of each clamp and is
aligned with the V-
grooves at each side of
the mold.

Close the left fiber clamp.
The fiber clamp slides
from left to right. Keep
enough tension in the
fiber to prevent the fiber
from jumping out of the
V-grooves.

Gently pull the fiber to the
right to slide the left-side
fiber clamp to its rightmost
position.
Take note of the position
of the left fiber clamp in
Step 5 versus Step 6.

Close the right fiber clamp
and the mold
The recoater will display
a READY message when
functioning properly.

Press the SET button to
begin recoating the fiber.
The screen will display an
INJECTION message and
then a UV
COMPENSATIVE message
while recoating.

Open the mold when the
FINISH message is displayed.

Press the SET button once
more to start the proof test.
Do not touch the
recoater while it is
performing the proof
test.

When the proof test is
complete, open the right
fiber clamp first, and then
open the left fiber clamp.

Carefully remove the fiber
by lifting the fiber up from
the right side first.
Keep the fiber taut and
straight when removing
it from the recoater.

Use Isopropyl Alcohol and
Kimwipes to thoroughly
clean the surface of the
mold.

Replace the protective
tissues under each fiber
clamp and the mold.
15
Press and hold the ON/OFF
button to shut down the
recoater.
The ON/OFF button must
be held until the SHUT
DOWN message appears.
