Precaution for Disassembly/Assembly Procedure
● Make sure to turn OFF the power and unplug the power cable before the
disassembly/assembly procedure.
● Remove the battery before removing any PC board.
● Do not frequently remove the control panel and print circuit boards, as it may cause
contact failure or damage to the equipment.
● When assembling the product, make sure that the screws are fixed on appropriately to
the correct position.
● Make sure that there are no foreign substances remaining inside the equipment.
Handling of the Print Circuit Board
● Be cautious when handling the print circuit board, as the components are very sensitive
to static electricity.
● Store the removed print circuit board in a conductive bag or take other appropriate
measures as it is a sensitive elelctric circuit component.
● Do not apply unnecessary force to the print circuit board as it may cause damage.
● Do not insert/remove any print circuit board with the power turned ON as it may cause
damage.
CAUTION
If the threshold value is exceeded during the safety inspection, make sure to stop using the
equipment. Otherwise, it may cause injury to the patient or operator.

1.1 Features
1.1.1 What the Instrument Can Do
VS-1500N
The instrument measures the non-invasive blood pressure in all four limbs to simultaneously
obtain ECG, PCG, carotid pulse tracing, femoral pulse tracing and four limb pulse tracing. This
makes it possible to examine arterial extensibility and the degree of blood circulation disorders
in blood vessels in the lower limbs of a patient.
VS-1500N with ECG Upgrade Package
In addition to the above, by installing the optional standard 12-lead ECG testing software (ECG
Upgrade Package: VSC-150), the 12-lead ECG examination function is enabled. This package
allows 12-lead ECG testing, to record ECG and analysis results both for screening patients with
heart disease and for general ECG testing.
1.1.2 Major Features
VS-1500N
●CAVI (Cardio Ankle Vascular Index)
Independent of blood pressure, the Cardio Ankle Vascular Index calculates the specific
hardness of arterial walls. As an index for early detection of arteriosclerosis diseases, CAVI
provides a means to diagnose arteriosclerosis in patients with hypertension, hyperlipemia,
diabetes, myocardial infarction and cerebral infarction. The CAVI is also useful for time-serial
observation of medication effects.
The index is compatible with the PWV method, a classical index for measuring aortic stiffness.
This instrument measures the following 4 types of CAVI.
(1) R-CAVI: CAVI between the heart valve and right ankle artery, calculated from
measurements of PCG (heart sound Ⅱ) and plethysmograms taken using
cuffs applied to the right brachial and right ankle.
(2) L-CAVI: CAVI between the heart valve and left ankle artery, calculated from
measurements of PCG (heart sound Ⅱ) and plethysmograms taken using
cuffs applied to the right brachial and left ankle.
(3) R-kCAVI: CAVI between the heart valve and right popliteal artery, calculated from
measurements of PCG (heart sound Ⅱ) and plethysmograms taken using
a cuff applied to the right brachial and a sensor applied to the right knee
joint.
(4) L-kCAVI: CAVI between the heart valve and left popliteal artery, calculated from
measurements of PCG (heart sound Ⅱ) and plethysmograms taken using
a cuff applied to the right brachial and a sensor applied to the left knee
joint.
●Simultaneous Measurement of Blood Pressures of Brachial’s and Ankles
The instrument measures non-invasive blood pressures of brachial’s and ankles simultaneously.
It also allows selection of any brachial and ankle for measurement.
●BPB (BP Balance)
BPB is a two-dimensional graphic indication of blood pressure measured at ankles and
brachial’s. It makes it easy to establish the BP balance of upper and lower limbs and helps to
indicate arterial stenosis and blockage of the lower limbs.

●ABI (Ankle-Brachial Pressure Index)
The ABI is an index indicating the degree of stenosis or occlusion of the lower limb artery due to
arteriosclerosis obliterans (ASO). A value of 0.90 or less indicates the probable presence of
occlusion or stenosis.
●TBI (Toe Brachial Index)
TBI is an index to evaluate blood circulation disorders from the ankles to the peripheral arteries.
●Post ABI Examination
During ABI examination, Post-stress interval recording are executed.
●Calculation of aortic PWV (Pulse Wave Velocity)
The VS-1500 can measure the following two kinds of PWV:
PWV and PWV*: Aortic PWV measured from carotid pulse tracing, femoral pulse tracing
and PCG (heart sound Ⅱ).
PWV* is a value corrected with diastolic BP.
●R-R ECG Examination
This examination measures the R-R intervals of an ECG and output the examination reports on
the trend graphs and histograms.
●Color LCD
The color LCD provides crisper images of ECG, PCG and pulse wave waveforms. The display
also makes it possible to easily check patient, electrode and recording status.
●Built-in thermal array recorder
The 145 mm built-in thermal array recorder provides easily interpretable waveforms, detailed
measurement values, patient data and time-serial data on chart paper.
●Connectable to Color Printer
The instrument can be connected to an optional color printer to enable direct printouts of
examination result reports in color without the need for a PC. When combined with our
designated printer, the LCD indicates how much ink remains and paper status.
●Filing
The instrument comes with a CF card slot to enable storage of pulse wave examinations and
ECG examinations with waveforms and measurement values. Stored data can be located and
printed at any time.
●Data Management with Personal Computer
By connecting multiple VS-1500 units and a PC to a network, you can centrally manage data
recording, searches, display and printing of all units on the PC.
This requires optional data management software (DMS) (VSS-10).
VS-1500N with ECG Upgrade Package
In addition to the above features explained for the VS-1500N, the following features will be also
available by installing the optional standard 12-lead ECG testing software (ECG Upgrade
Package: VSC-150).

Chapter 1 Features
The instrument enables standard 12-lead ECG for highly accurate waveform measurements
and analysis of disorder categories. Analysis results and ECG can be recorded and printed.
A 12-lead analysis function is provided for interpretation of ECG data. This analysis program
uses a clinically improved diagnosis standard classified according to Minnesota code, disease
name, age and sex to raise the accuracy of diagnosis. Analysis results employ a new report
format that lends itself to the multifaceted aspects of ECG diagnosis.
●Arrhythmia ECG Examination
This examination analyzes a 1 to 3 min 3-lead ECG waveform and records the result under the
arrhythmia examination report.
●Master Test Exercise
This is an exercise stress test called the Master's two-step exercise test. The exercise stress
test is followed by post stress interval recording using 12-lead ECG.
●Series Examination
This examination enables the operator to perform a series of examination that combines any of
the following examinations: pulse wave examination, 12-lead ECG examination, R-R ECG
examination, and arrhythmia ECG examination. This series examination will speed up the
testing.
This requires optional data management software (DMS) (VSS-10, EFS-200).

(1) Pulse wave examination (Vascular distensability)
The instrument can measure and provide printouts for CAVI and Aortic PWV.
(2) Pulse wave examination (Four Limbs and Toe Blood pressure)
The instrument can measure and provide printouts for simultaneous measurement of blood
pressure of brachial’s and ankles, toe blood pressure, ABI and TBI.
(3) R-R ECG examination
The instrument captures 1-lead rhythm induced waveforms to print rhythm induced
measurement reports (R-R histograms and R-R trend graphs).
VS-1500N with ECG Upgrade Package
(1) Pulse wave examination (Vascular distensability)
The instrument can measure and provide printouts for CAVI and Aortic PWV.

(5) Standard 12-lead ECG
The instrument automatically analyzes and records standard 12-lead ECG. Manual recording
enables recording using a variety of lead, sensitivity and recording speed settings.
It can also record post-stress interval recording using post-stress 12-lead analysis.
(6) Master test exercise
This is an exercise stress test called the Master's two-step exercise test. The exercise stress
test is followed by post interval recording using 12-lead ECG.
(7) Series Examination
This examination mode enables the operator to sequentially perform a combination of any of the
following examinations: pulse wave examination, 12-lead ECG examination, R-R ECG
examination, and arrhythmia ECG examination. The unit can store data for up to five series
examinations.
