INSTALLATION OPTIONS
NOTE: Installat on he ght should be measured from
the cook ng surface to the lowest part of the hood.
Th s hood may be nstalled onto a wall and vented
to the outdoors, or t can be nstalled for rec rculat ng
operat on. All necessary parts for rec rculat ng
operat on are suppl ed w th the hood. No k ts requ red.
Th s hood can be nstalled over any 30″Monogram
electr c cooktop or gas cooktop. It cannot be
nstalled over a Monogram Profess onal cooktop
or range.

ADVANCE PLANNING
•Determ ne the exact locat on of the vent hood.
•Plan the route for vent ng exhaust to the outdoors.
•Use the shortest and stra ghtest duct route poss ble. For
sat sfactory performance, duct run should not exceed 100 ft.
equ valent length for any duct conf gurat ons.
•Refer to “Duct F tt ngs” chart on page 5 to compute the
max mum perm ss ble length for duct runs to the outdoors.

open ng. Order the wall or roof cap and any trans t on

Wall Framing for Adequate Support
•Th s vent hood s heavy. Adequate structural support must
be prov ded n all types of nstallat ons. The hood must be
secured to vert cal studs n the wall, or to a hor zontal
support.
•The vent hood should be on s te before f nal fram ng and
wall f n sh ng. Th s w ll help to accurately locate the duct
work and electr cal serv ce.
•Installat on w ll be eas er f the vent hood s nstalled before
the cooktop and countertop are nstalled.
ACCESSORY DUCT COVER
Th s hood s sh pped w th a decorat ve duct cover for ce l ng
he ghts of 7′11″to 10′. The ZX83012 duct cover accessory
s ava lable to reach ce l ng he ghts between 10′1″and 12′.
The accessory should be ordered w th the hood and be
on s te before nstallat on beg ns.
POWER SUPPLY
IMPORTANT – (Please read carefully)
WARNING: FOR PERSONAL SAFETY,
THIS APPLIANCE MUST BE PROPERLY GROUNDED.
Remove house fuse or open c rcu t breaker before beg nn ng
nstallat on.
Do not use an extens on cord or adapter plug w th th s
appl ance. Follow Nat onal electr cal codes or preva l ng local
codes and ord nances.
Electrical supply
These vent hoods must be suppl ed w th 120V, 60Hz, and
connected to an nd v dual, properly grounded branch c rcu t,
and protected by a 15 or 20 amp c rcu t breaker or t me
delay fuse.
•W r ng must be 2 w re w th ground.
•If the electr cal supply does not meet the above
requ rements, call a l censed electr c an before proceed ng.
•Route house w r ng as close to the nstallat on locat on as
poss ble, n the ce l ng or back wall. Refer to W r ng Locat ons
on page 9.
•Connect the hood w r ng to the house w r ng n accordance
w th local codes.
Grounding instructions
The ground ng conductor must be connected to a grounded
metal, permanent w r ng system, or an equ pment-ground ng
term nal or lead on the hood.
WARNING:The mproper connect on of the
equ pment-ground ng conductor can result n a r sk of
electr c shock. Check w th a qual f ed electr c an or serv ce
representat ve f you are n doubt whether the appl ance s
properly grounded.

INSTALL FRAMING
FOR HOOD SUPPORT
IMPORTANT— Framing must be capable
of supporting 100 lbs.
If drywall s present, mark the screw hole locat ons for
the top mount ng brackets. Remove the template.
•Cut away enough drywall to expose 2 vert cal studs
at the bracket locat on nd cated on the template.
•Install a hor zontal support at least 1″x 6″
between two wall studs at the mount ng screw
locat on. The horizontal support must be flush with
the room side of the studs. Use cleats beh nd both
s des of the support to secure to wall studs.
IMPORTANT: Re nstall drywall for an even mount ng
surface.

DUCTWORK, WIRING LOCATIONS
Determ ne the exact locat on of the vent hood.
•Locate the template packed w th the l terature.
– Measure 36″from the floor to the top of the cook ng
surface. Add hood nstallat on he ght determ ned on
page 7. Mark that locat on.
– Use a level to draw a stra ght penc l l ne on the wall.
– Tape the template n pos t on along the penc led
l ne. CHECK TO BE SURE THE TEMPLATE IS LEVEL.
Ceiling ducting:
If ductwork w ll vent stra ght up to the ce l ng:
•Use a level to draw a l ne stra ght up, from
the centerl ne on the template to the ce l ng.
•Measure 5-1/2″from the back wall to the centerl ne
of an 8-1/2″hole on the ce l ng.
NOTE: If drywall s not present, add drywall th ckness
to the 5-1/2″d mens on.
Wall Ducting:
If ductwork w ll vent to the rear:
•Use a level to draw a l ne stra ght up from
the centerl ne on the template.
•Measure at least 27-3/4″above the penc l l ne
that nd cates the bottom nstallat on he ght, to the
centerl ne of an 8-1/2″d a. duct hole. (Hole may
be elongated for duct elbow.)
HOUSE WIRING LOCATION:
•The junct on box s located on the top left s de
of the hood.
•W r ng should enter the back wall at least 18″above
the bottom of the hood, and w th n 5-1/2″of the left
s de of the centerl ne.

INSTALL DUCT BRACKET
The duct bracket should be nstalled aga nst the back wall
and flush w th the ce l ng. Th s bracket w ll hold the duct cover
n place at the top.
Secure the bracket to the wall:
•Al gn the d amond centerl ne cutout on the bracket
w th the penc led centerl ne on the wall.
•Mark 2 screw hole locat ons n the wall.
•Dr ll 1/8″p lot holes n the marked locat ons.
•If p lot holes do not enter wood studs, enlarge the holes
to 3/8″and nstall metal wall fastener anchors (prov ded).
•If mount ng d rectly to a masonry wall, obta n appropr ate
#10 masonry screw anchors. Dr ll and nstall per the
fastener suppl er’s nstruct ons.
•Dr ve screws, by hand, nto the fasteners to allow anchors
to expand. Remove the screws.
•Secure the bracket to the wall w th wood screws and/or fasteners.

INSTALL HOOD MOUNTING SCREWS
The two upper mounting screws must enter the horizontal
support or wall studs.
•W th the template taped n place, use a punch to mark
mount ng bracket screw locat ons.
•Dr ll 1/8″p lot holes n 2 of the punched locat ons
n the lower bracket.
•Remove the template.
•Install the mount ng screws, leave 1/4″gap between
the screw head and the wall. Th s w ll allow the keyhole slot
on the hood frame to engage the screw head.
IMPORTANT: Use the mount ng screws prov ded. DO NOT USE
DRYWALL SCREWS.
•Check to be sure the mount ng screws are
hor zontally level.

INSTALLATION—VENTED TO THE OUTSIDE
CONNECT DUCTWORK
•Remove sh pp ng tape from the damper.
•Install ductwork, mak ng connect ons n the
d rect on of a rflow as llustrated.
•Push duct over the exhaust outlet and damper.
•Secure jo nts n ductwork w th sheet metal screws.
•Wrap all duct jo nts and the flange connect ons
w th duct tape for an a rt ght seal.
CAUTION: Do not use sheet metal screws
at the hood flange connect on. Do ng so w ll prevent
proper damper operat on. Seal connect on w th
tape only.

INSTALLATION—VENTED TO THE OUTSIDE
CONNECT ELECTRICAL
Verify that power is turned off at the source.
WARNING:If house wiring is not 2-wire
with a ground wire, a ground must be provided by
the installer. When house wiring is aluminum, be
sure to use U.L. approved anti-oxidant compound
and aluminum-to-copper connectors.
•Remove the 6 screws on the junction box cover

•Secure the house wiring to the junction box with
a strain relief.
•Connect the white lead to the branch circuit white lead.
•Connect the black lead to the branch circuit black lead.
•Connect the green/yellow lead to the branch
circuit green lead or bare ground lead.
•Secure all the connections with wire nuts on each
electrical connector.
•Push the wires into the junction box and replace
the cover. Be sure the wires are not pinched.
•Secure the junction box cover with the 6 original
screws.
6INSTALL DUCT COVERS
•Remove protective plastic
covering.
•Place the decorative duct
covers on top of the hood.
NOTE: The inside duct piece
has vent holes on one end.
The holes are intended for
use when the hood is
installed for recirculating purposes. Slide the inside
end into the outer piece; the vent holes should not
be visible in this installation.
The inside duct piece must slip into the folded ends
of the outer section.
•Extend the inner duct upward to the ceiling
bracket.
•
Press up on the front corners of the filter cover panel
to unlock. Lower the panel to access the filter.
• Locate the screw holes on the inside front edge
of the opening. Install 2 screws to secure the duct
cover to the hood.

IMPORTANT: Framing must be capable
of supporting 100 lbs.
If drywall s present, mark the screw hole locat ons for
the top mount ng brackets. Remove the template.
•Cut away enough drywall to expose 2 vert cal studs
at the bracket locat on nd cated on the template.
•Install a hor zontal support at least 1″x 6″
between two wall studs at the mount ng screw
locat on. The horizontal support must be flush with

INSTALL DUCT BRACKET
The duct bracket should be nstalled aga nst the back wall
and flush w th the ce l ng. Th s bracket w ll hold the duct cover
n place at the top.
Secure the bracket to the wall:
•Al gn the d amond centerl ne cutout on the bracket
to the penc led centerl ne on the wall.
•Mark 2 screw hole locat ons n the wall.
•Dr ll 1/8″p lot holes n the marked locat ons.
•If p lot holes do not enter wood studs, enlarge the holes
to 3/8″and nstall metal wall fastener anchors (prov ded).
•If mount ng d rectly to a masonry wall, obta n appropr ate
#10 masonry screw anchors. Dr ll and nstall per the
fastener suppl er’s nstruct ons.
•Dr ve screws, by hand, nto the fasteners to allow anchors
to expand. Remove the screws.
•Secure the bracket to the wall w th wood screws and/or fasteners.

The mounting screws must enter the horizontal support
or wall studs.
• W th the template taped n place, use a punch
to mark mount ng bracket screw locat ons.
•Dr ll 1/8″p lot holes n 2 of the punched locat ons
n the lower bracket.
•Remove the template.
•Install the mount ng screws; leave 1/4″gap between
the screw head and the wall. Th s w ll allow the keyhole slot
on the hood frame to engage the screw head.
IMPORTANT: Use the mount ng screws prov ded. DO NOT USE
DRYWALL SCREWS.
•Check to be sure the mount ng screws are hor zontally level.
2MOUNT THE HOOD

CONNECT ELECTRICAL
Verify that power is turned off at the source.
WARNING:If house wiring is not 2-wire
with a ground wire, a ground must be provided by
the installer. When house wiring is aluminum, be
sure to use U.L. approved anti-oxidant compound
and aluminum-to-copper connectors.
•Remove the 6 screws on the junction box cover
and the knockout on the top or left side.
•Secure the house wiring to the junction box with

support channels d rectly below the charcoal

NOTE: The charcoal f lter should not be used
w thout the metal f lter secured below.
•To close the f lter cover panel, push up on both
s des at the front corners to engage the latch.
