HIUs GE556-5 are modular and compact heat interface units for metering of thermal energy consumptions in autonomous
heating and domestic hot water production (DHW) systems with centralized heat production (e.g. teleheating).
HIUs GE556-5 are modular as they enable to combine multiple components and create the HIU most suitable for one’s
installation needs (control of high-temperature heating with or without balancing valves, control of domestic hot and/or cold
water, etc.).

WARNING. When recirculation kit (GE556Y564/565) is included, install the
additional unit output for domestic cold water (GE556Y561) and reverse the
domestic cold water inlet/outlet ows (A and B).
It is also necessary to provide an expansion tank suitably sized according to the
volume of the recirculation system.
PRIMARY CIRCUIT: inlet: (D) and outlet (E). The primary circuit includes two zones: one for heating control and the other for domestic
hot water production. The primary circuit includes a lter, a housing to install the probe of the dierential pressure control valve, a
mechanical priority valve, a manual air vent valve, a brass spacer and a dierential pressure control valve.
The brass spacer (Components - Ref. 6) can be replaced with a thermal energy meter by installing its temperature probe in the
matching housing (Components - Ref. 2).
The water from the boiler room enters the HIU and is generally channeled towards the heating secondary circuit.
When there is a demand for domestic hot water, the priority valve diverts the primary uid towards the heat exchanger; a thermostatic
head controls and sets the required ow rate (when kit GE556Y522 is included).
DHW: cold water inlet (B), cold water outlet (A), hot water outlet (C). The domestic water circuit includes a mechanical priority valve,
a check valve, a water hammer arrestor, a heat exchanger, a ow rate controller and a brass spacer (two spacers when kit GE556Y561
is included). The two brass spacers (Components - Ref. 12 and 15) can be replaced with a domestic cold/hot water meter.
A thermostatic head (when kit GE556Y522 is included) (Components - Ref. 10) controls and sets the domestic hot water temperature.
HIGH-TEMPERATURE HEATING: delivery (F) and return (G). The high-temperature heating circuit includes a presetting valve with
optional installation of a thermo-electric actuator (when kit GE556Y544 is installed).
After owing through the mechanical priority valve, the primary circuit hot water is channeled directly into the high-temperature
heating system.

The recirculation unit output maintains the temperature
of domestic hot water inside the domestic water circuit,
channeling it back into the heat exchanger for instant
availability. To install the unit output for domestic water
recirculation, follow the steps below:
- on upper section, screw the recirculation kit nut on the Tee
tting (Ref. 1) of the heat exchanger cold water delivery;
- on lower section, screw the metal bracket of the
recirculation kit (Ref. 2) on the HIU template (Note: metal
bracket not included with kit GE556Y565).
• GE556Y564 weight: 1,5 kg
• GE556Y565 weight: 0,4 kg
NOTE. Thermostatic by-pass kit GE556Y566 must be installed when
domestic water recirculation kit GE556Y564/GE552Y565 is included.
WARNING. For proper
metering when installing the
domestic hot water recirculation
kit, also install the additional
domestic cold water unit output
(GE556Y561) and reverse the
inlet/outlet ows of domestic cold
water (A and B).

connections are positioned .

included, it is necessary to provide a safety valve or an expansion vessel on the
domestic water recirculation circuit.
NOTE. When the GE556Y564/GE552Y565 domestic water recirculation kit is
included, the GE500Y259 water hammer arrestor kit cannot be present.
WARNING. In case of installation of the recirculation kit, the measurement
of the total m3 of water consumed is counted by the water meter installed on
the domestic water inlet unit (B). The water meter on the domestic water outlet
unit (C) is not necessary.

primary outlet (Ref. 1) and high-temperature heating delivery
circuits (Ref. 2). Installation varies based on the type of system
(primary connections from top or bottom), as shown below.
To install the drain cocks, remove the HIU tting caps and
screw on the self-sealing cocks using a 12 mm Allen wrench.

Metal cover GE551Y184
The metal cover kit can be installed only on HIUs including
GE551Y087 template with insulation.
The kit includes a RAL 9010 varnished metal cover (Ref. 1), an
upper bracket to snap on the cover (Ref. 2) and a lower bracket
to lock the HIU (Ref. 3).
To install cover kit GE551Y184, follow the steps below:
1) t the upper bracket to the wall (ref. 2) placing it on the
insulation and making sure the holes (ref. A) are facing up
(use screw anchors t for the type of wall and equipment
weight).
2) t the lower bracket (ref. 3) on the template using the
self-locking screws included and making sure the fold is
facing up.
3) snap the metal cover (ref. 1) on the upper bracket (ref. 2),
inserting the special metal teeth (ref. B) in the upper
bracket holes (ref. A).
The HIU is ready to be closed using the special lock on the
lower section of the metal cover (ref. C).
To access the HIU for inspection and/or maintenance,
remove the metal cover completely, tilting it slightly and
sliding it o the upper bracket.

Installation
Wall mounting of template GE551Y078 or GE551Y087-088
NOTE. Refer to datasheet 0962ML for proper installation of the template.
Mount the template on the wall using screw anchors t for
the type of wall and weight of the equipment, leaving a
distance of at least 1000 mm between the template base
and the ceiling.
The HIU can be installed at any height of the wall, however
we recommend leaving a 1500 mm min. distance between
the oor and the HIU cover base.
Install the ball valves in the template holes and x them with
the washers using a wrench.
Connect the system pipes to the template 3/4”M ball valves
using suitable adapters.
Refer to the template label for proper installation of the
pipes.

For an easier installation, the HIU includes 3/4”F at nuts
with adjustable tail pieces (10 mm extension).
Before tting the HIU on the wall, extend every single
adjustable tail piece up to its max. length (A).
