Girard Systems awnings may be operated in light wind and rain
conditions. When periods of heavy rain and or high wind are expected
the awning must be closed. Never leave the awning open and
unattended.
Damage caused by wind and rain is not covered by warranty.
All awnings must be closed prior to moving the vehicle for any reason.
As an extra safety precaution a visual check that every awning is fully
closed is required.
Damage caused by failure to comply with these instructions is
not covered by warranty.
Before using your awning, ensure that the area into which the awning
will be deployed is free of obstructions (Trees, walls, pillars, posts,
other vehicles etc.)
Damage caused by collisions with any of the above or similar is
not covered by warranty.
Before using your awning make sure that all of your electrical circuits
are operating correctly. Recreational Vehicles can generate AC power
from three separate sources. The electrical system transfer switch in
your vehicle will select power for the awning as follows:
Shore Power – if connected;
Generator Power – if the generator is running;
Inverter Power – batteries must be charged for inverter operation.
Girard Systems awnings are supplied with an electric motor appropriate to the
product.

THE G–LINK SYSTEM
The G-Link motors and control modules provided by Girard Systems communicate by
use of RF signals on a frequency of 433.92 MHZ. This eliminates the need for wiring
and the drilling of holes in the vehicle. These components must be electronically
matched, programmed or paired before use. This is usually done at the Girard Systems
factory. Should the need arise for the user to pair a device with the motor controller
they must refer to the appropriate manual for the devices applicable to their particular
installation.
WARNING
“To reduce the risk of electric shock the operator power is to be
provided from a weatherproof junction box in the case of permanent
wiring, as per 314.15 of the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70.”
To prevent the motor protector from tripping do not exceed 2
minutes of operation per hour.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The 98GC1102 Ignition Retract and Lockout Module is designed to send a retract signal
to any electronically paired G-Link motor control modules installed on the Recreational
Vehicle, whenever the engine is turned on or the parking brake released (dependent
upon the installation). The 98GC1102 can be electronically paired with more than one
motor controller, but only electrically isolates power from the motor controller that it is
connected to. This being the case it is advised that each awning on the vehicle to have
its own Ignition Retract and Lockout Module
For installations that consist of more than one awning, a delay should be set for each
additional Ignition Retract and Lockout module using the procedure described in this
manual (see programming the delay).
The 98GC1102 will send the retract signal 3 times in the first 5 seconds of the Vehicle
engine starting or the parking brake being released, this will ensure that all
electronically paired awnings have been sent a retract signal before the vehicle moves.
90 seconds after sending a “Retract” signal, the 98GC1102 will isolate power from the
motor controller to which it is connected and the power will remain isolated until the
engine is turned off again, (or the parking brake engaged) this prevents the awning
from being accidentally extended while the vehicle is in motion.
The 98GC1102 has an AC Plug to enable connection to a 110v AC power supply, It is
recommended that this plug be removed and the power supply be connected through
an approved junction box to prevent the module being connected to an unsuitable
power source. The white cable with the rectangular plug connects to the motor control
module of the awning. To enable its function the 98GC1102 requires the Black and Red
wires coming from the module to be connected to the 12 Volt Vehicle ignition circuit or
the parking brake circuit (See the wiring diagrams on the next page).

PROGRAMMING PROCEDURE
Ensure that the vehicle ignition circuit is switched OFF or the parking brake is
engaged (whichever is applicable to the installation), and the awning is
extended before connecting the 98GC1102 to the 12v DC circuit.
a) Connect the 98GC1102 to a suitable 110v AC power supply.
b) Connect the 98GC1102 to the G-Link Motor controller using the white connector
(see figure 1).

c) Connect the 12v wires of the 98GC1102 to the 12v ignition circuit or parking
brake circuit of the vehicle.
Note; When carrying out this part of the procedure each step must be
executed within 10 seconds of the previous one or the module will revert to
factory settings. It is highly recommended that you read and understand the
following sequence before attempting to execute it.
d) Press the PROGRAM button on the MOTOR CONTROLLER, the Green LED will
start blinking.
e) Press STOP on the MOTOR CONTROLLER, the Green LED will stop blinking and
remain illuminated.
f) Turn ON the Ignition Switch (or release the parking brake according to the
installation). The green LED will turn off and the awning should retract. The
MOTOR CONTROLLER will be disabled after 90 seconds.
g) If the unit does not work as described above repeat d), e) and f) again.

PROGRAMMING THE DELAY
a) Remove the four screws on top of the 98GC1102 to open the Lid (See figure 2).

Note; When carrying out this part of the procedure each step must be
executed within 5 seconds of the previous one or the module will revert to
factory settings. It is highly recommended that you read and understand the
following sequence before attempting to execute it.
b) With the engine ON press the SET button (see Figure 2) on the Ignition lockout
for 6 seconds until you hear a beep.
c) Press the UP button shown in Figure 2 to change the delay. Each press will be
followed by a beep and it will increase the delay by one second.
NOTE: Make sure the delay is different from every other Ignition Lockout in
the coach.
