„Combat SAR“, oder einfach „CSAR“, ist die Rettung abgeschossener oder notgelandeter Flug-
zeugbesatzungen von feindlichem Territorium. Die für diese Aufgabe verwendeten Hubschrau-
ber verfügen neben der normalen Rettungsausrüstung über umfangreiche Zusatzeinrichtungen
für Tiefflug- und Nachteinsätze, Radar- und Infrarotsensoren, abwerfbare Zusatztanks
(„Droptanks“) zur Erhöhung der Einsatzreichweite sowie eine der Aufgabe angepasste Defen-
sivbewaffnung.
Auch der NH90 wird in CSAR-Ausführung angeboten; daher wurde ein entsprechender Scale-
Ausbausatz erstellt, mit dem diese Ausführung aus den normalen Rumpfbausätzen des NH90
gebaut werden kann. Darüber hinaus eignet sich dieser Ausbausatz, der die kontinuierlichen
Modifikationen im Rahmen der Weiterentwicklung dieses Hubschraubermusters berücksichtigt,
auch für den Nachbau anderer Varianten der TTH-Ausführung (taktischer Transport-Hub-
schrauber) des NH90. Die Droptanks werden normalerweise fest montiert, können aber nach
eigenem Ermessen auch ferngesteuert abwerfbar gestaltet werden.
Inhalt Bausatz:
Tiefgezogene Teile zur Karosseriemodifikation, wie z.B. Triebwerks-Lufteinlässe, Sensorhutzen
und Waffenstationen, Zusatztank-Attrappen aus GfK, diverse Kleinteile.
Die Stückliste befindet sich am Ende dieser Anleitung.
Die Lieferung erfolgt als unmontierter Bausatz. Alle Sicherheits- und Warnhinweise so-
wie sonstige Vorgaben aus Mechanik- und Rumpfbausatz-Handbuch sind auch für die-
ses Zubehörteil gültig und sinngemäss anzuwenden!
Montage:
Das FLIR aus den Teilen 1...6 entsprechend den Abbildungen mit Cyanokleber zusammenset-
zen, die Senkkopfschraube mit der Halterung gut verkleben.
Gemäss Abbildung wird die Trennfuge der Bugverkleidung mit einer kleinen Feile in die Deck-
schicht des Rumpfes eingebracht, sie eignet sich dann gut als Bezugslinie für das Ausrichten
der aufzusetzenden Teile 7 und 8, welche nun aufgeklebt werden, wie in der Abbildung gezeigt.

Von unten wird nun die Bodenplatte 9 in die Mittelabdeckung 7 eingepasst. Dann eine Bohrung
Ø 3 mm für das FLIR anbringen und eine Einschlagmutter von oben einkleben, so dass das
FLIR von unten angeschraubt werden kann. Überprüfen, dass das FLIR mittig unter der Mittel-
abdeckung angebracht ist und sich vollständig (360°) drehen lässt, wie in der Abbildung ge-
zeigt, dann die Bodenplatte in die Mittelabdeckung einkleben.
Die untere Abdeckung unter der Rumpfnase („Beule“) genau mittig anbringen und so, dass das
FLIR weiterhin um 360° drehbar bleibt.
Die Sockel links und rechts seitlich für Düppelwerfer und andere Sensoren können nur montiert
werden, wenn die hinteren Seitenfenster entsprechend der Weiterentwicklung des NH90 nach
hinten versetzt sind. Bei den aktuell gelieferten Rümpfe befinden sich die Fenster bereits an der
richtigen Stelle; beim Umbau eines älteren Rumpfes müssen dazu die vorhandenen Fensteröff-
nungen verschlossen und neue weiter hinten angebracht werden. Der Abstand der Fenstervor-
derkante zur Tür-Hinterkante beträgt ca. 150 mm.
Die tiefgezogenen Sockel werden dann gemäss Abbildung angebracht, die Düppelwerfer aus
Holz angefertigt und darauf geklebt.
Die Triebwerks-Lufteinlässe 14 werden gemäss Abbildung zugeschnitten und über den vorhan-
denen Ausfräsungen in der oberen Rumpfabdeckung aufgeklebt. Dabei sollen die Vorderkanten
(von oben gesehen) auf einer Linie, rechtwinklig zur Längsachse liegen. Der Rand der Einlauf-
öffnung wird mit einem entsprechend gebogenen ABS-Rohr Ø 3 mm aufgedickt und durch
Spachteln und Schleifen verrundet.

Gemäss Abbildung wird die Trennfuge für das im Original abklappbare Heck mit einer kleinen
Feile in die Deckschicht des Rumpfes eingebracht. Die tiefgezogenen Teile für das Scharnier 16
(rechte Rumpfseite) und den Verschluss 17 (linke Rumpfseite) werden dann zugeschnitten und,
wie abgebildet, über die Trennfuge geklebt.
Die beiden Kieferleisten 20, die den Träger der Bergungswinde bilden sollen, werden um 25
mm versetzt auf einander geklebt; die untere Leiste wird auf 20 mm Länge abgeschrägt und am
anderen Ende mit der oberen Leiste bündig abgeschnitten.

Entsprechend der Abbildung wird im Unterteil 18 der Bergungswinde eine Aussparung für den
Träger 20 angebracht und dieser, wie gezeigt, in das Unterteil eingeklebt. Dabei darauf achten,
dass die Oberkante des Trägers ca. 3mm unterhalb des Randes von 18 und parallel zu diesem
liegt.
Das Oberteil 19 wird dann über das Unterteil gestülpt, bis es auf dem Träger 20 aufliegt,
rundum ausgerichtet und auf dem überstehenden Rand von 18 verklebt.
Die so fertiggestellte Winde wird gemäss Abbildung über der rechten Tür montiert, indem eine
passende Aussparung in der Rumpfschale angebracht wird, in welche der Träger 20 eingeklebt
wird. (Ein vorbildgerechtes Schwenkgelenk - wie abgebildet - kann nach eigenem Ermessen
erstellt werden.)
Die Waffenträger-Basen 21 werden entlang der Markierungen ausgeschnitten. Die Flansche 24
mit Cyanokleber zentrisch auf die runden Ansätze der Basiseinheiten aufkleben, anschliessend
die Bohrung 8 mm Ø durchbohren.

Gemäss Abbildung werden jeweils 3 Messigröhrchen 22 als Abstandhalter mit reichlich „Stabilit
express“ eingeklebt. Nach dem Aushärten des Klebers werden die Befestigungsbohrungen 2
mm Ø durch die Abstandhalter hindurch nach aussen übertragen.
Die beiden Basiseinheiten 21/22 werden nun rechts und links am Rumpf an den vorgesehenen
Positionen mit Klebeband provisorisch fixiert, so dass die 2 mm Ø Befestigungsbohrungen
durch die Abstandhalter hindurch im Rumpf angebracht werden können. Die Befestigung erfolgt
dann mit Schrauben M2 x 20 und innen im Rumpf aufgeklebten Muttern M2, so dass die Waf-
fenträger später je nach Bedarf von aussen montiert bzw. demontiert werden können.

Jeweils zwei Messingröhrchen (25, 26) so zusammenlöten, wie in der Abbildung gezeigt: Die
Unterkanten der Rohre liegen in einer Ebene, sie bilden einen rechten Winkel und Rohr 25 trifft
Rohr 26 genau in der Mitte. An der Vorderkante von 25 soll die gezeigte Öffnung erhalten
bleiben; sie wird nach dem Verlöten der Rohre ggf. freigebohrt.
Die GfK-Droptanks 27 weisen oben eine Markierung auf in Form einer eingeprägten Linie. Auf
dieser Linie wird genau in der Mitte (in Längsrichtung) eine Bohrung von 2 mm Ø angebracht,
eine weitere Bohrung auf der Unterseite genau gegenüber liegend.
Der Eisendraht 28 wird 20 mm von Ende rechtwinklig umgebogen; dieser Haken wird von oben
in den Tank eingeführt, so dass das abgewinkelte Ende innen an der Tankoberseite anliegt.
Durch die Bohrung an der Unterseite wird dünnflüssiger Cyanokleber so in den Tank getropft,
dass der Haken von innen fixiert wird, und zwar so, dass das nach oben herausragende Ende
genau senkrecht steht. Nach dem Aushärten des Klebers wird das überstehende Drahtende
entsprechend der Abbildung zur Seite abgewinkelt, so dass sich der angegebene Freiraum zwi-
schen Drahtunterkante und Tankoberkante ergibt. Das Distanzstück 29 wird dann genau paral-
lel zur eingeprägten Linie auf den Tank und gegen den Draht geklebt, wie abgebildet.
Das abgewinkelte Ende des Drahtes wird dann bis zum Anschlag in die 2mm-Bohrung von Teil
25 gesteckt, so dass Teil 26 mittig auf dem Distanzstück 29 aufliegt, wie in den Abbildungen
gezeigt. Nach dem Ausrichten der Teile zu einander werden sie mit dünnflüssigem Cyanokleber
verklebt; zusätzlich kann reichlich Epoxikleber in das Rohr 25 gegeben werden, um den
Stahldrahthaken darin sicher einzukleben.

Die fertiggestellten Einheiten werden dann mit den Rohren 25 in die Flansche 24 der Basisein-
heiten gesteckt. Nach dem Ausrichten der Tanks parallel zum Rumpfboden werden die Flan-
sche 24 und die Rohre 25 mit 1,5 mm Ø mit einander verbohrt, so dass eine Blechschraube
2,2x6,5 eingedreht werden kann.
Der Drahtschneider 31 wird mit Cyanokleber gemäss Abbildung auf den Fenstersteg der
Windschutzscheibe geklebt.

“Combat SAR”, or simply “CSAR”, is the term used for the task of rescuing aircraft crew from
enemy territory when they have been shot down or forced to crash-land. The helicopters used
for this task feature comprehensive extra equipment for low flying and nocturnal missions, in
addition to the normal rescue apparatus, radar and infra-red sensors, jettisonable
supplementary tanks (droptanks) to increase the field of action and a defensive armament
carefully designed for this specialised task.
A CSAR version of the NH90 is also available, and we have developed a scale expansion set
which can be used to convert the standard NH90 fuselage kit to this version. This expansion
set, which also takes into account various modifications to the helicopter type which have been
introduced as development continues, is also suitable as a basis for modelling other variants of
the TTH version (Tactical Transport Helicopter) of the NH 90. The droptanks are permanently
mounted as standard, but it is certainly possible for the skilled builder to make them jettisonable
by radio.
Kit contents:
Vacuum-moulded parts for bodywork modification, such as engine air intakes, sensor fairings
and weapons stations, GRP droptanks, various small items.
You will find the Parts List at the end of these instructions.
The set is available in kit-form only. All safety notes, warnings and other essential
information provided in the manual for the mechanics set and fuselage kit also apply in
full to these accessories.
Assembly:
Assemble the FLIR (Forward Looking Infra-Red) unit from parts 1 … 6 as shown in the
illustrations, using cyano. The countersunk screw must be glued securely to the mount.
Engrave the joint line of the nose fairing in the surface layer of the fuselage using a small file, as
shown in the photo; this acts as a useful reference line for positioning parts 7 and 8 which are
fitted next. Glue these parts in place as shown in the picture.

The base plate 9 can now be trimmed to fit in the underside of the centre fairing 7. Drill a 3 mm
Ø hole for the FLIR assembly and glue a captive nut over the hole on the inside, so that the
FLIR can be fitted from the underside. Check that the FLIR is located centrally under the centre
fairing and can rotate through 360°, as shown in the illustration. When you are satisfied, glue the
base plate in the centre fairing.
Attach the lower fairing (the “bulge”) to the underside of the fuselage nose, taking care to centre
it accurately. Check also that there is clearance for the FLIR to rotate through 360°.
The plinths on both sides of the fuselage for the flare launchers and other sensors can only be
fitted if the rear side windows are re-positioned further aft; this is a modification which has been
introduced in later versions of the NH90. The windows of current production fuselages are
already located correctly, but if you are converting an older fuselage it will be necessary to seal
the existing window openings and cut new ones further aft. The distance from the front edge of
the window to the rear edge of the door should be about 150 mm.
The vacuum-moulded plinths can then be attached as shown in the illustrations. Make the flare
launchers from balsa and glue them to the plinths as shown.
The engine air intakes 14 should now be cut to final size as shown in the photos, and glued over
the existing machined openings in the upper fuselage fairing. The front edge of the intakes (as
seen from above) should be in line, and positioned at right-angles to the fuselage centreline.
Bend pieces of 3 mm Ø ABS tube to follow the shape of the air intake openings and glue them
in place. Apply filler to the joints when the glue has set hard, and carefully sand it back to form a
neat lip.

The fuselage of the full-size machine features a fold-down tail section, and the joint line between
the sections should now be engraved in the surface layer of the fuselage using a small file.
Locate the vacuum-moulded parts forming the hinge 16 (right-hand fuselage side) and the latch
17 (left-hand fuselage side) and trim them to final shape. Glue these parts over the joint line as
shown in the photos.
The rescue winch is mounted on an outrigger formed by two spruce strips 20. Glue these strips
together, offset by 25 mm, and bevel the bottom strip over a length of 20 mm. Cut off the bottom
strip flush with the top one at the thick end.

Cut a notch in the bottom section 18 of the rescue winch to accept the outrigger 20, as shown in
the illustration, and glue the outrigger in the bottom shell: the top edge of the outrigger should lie
parallel to the joint plane of part 18, and about 3 mm below the edge of the moulding.
Fit the top section 19 over the bottom section and position it resting on the outrigger 20. Align it
carefully all round, and glue it to the projecting flange of part 18.
The completed winch assembly is attached to the fuselage above the right-hand door, as show
in the photo; you will need to cut a rectangular opening in the fuselage shell to accept the
outrigger 20. (A scale swivel link - as shown - can also be made at the builder’s discretion.)
Cut out the weapons support bases 21 along the marked lines. Glue the plastic flanged bushes
24 centrally over the circular shoulders of the base units using cyano. Allow the glue to set hard,
then continue the 8 mm Ø hole through the flanged bushes and into the bases.

Three brass tubes 22 can now be glued in the extremities of the weapons support bases to act
as spacers, as shown in the photo. Use a generous amount of “Stabilit express” for this. When
the resin has set hard, cut 2 mm Ø holes in the weapons support bases by drilling through the
tubular spacers from the inside.
The two base units 21 / 22 should now be taped on either side of the fuselage in the position
shown in the picture, so that you can transfer the position of the 2 mm Ø screw holes onto the
fuselage, working through the spacers. Drill the holes, and attach the base units to the fuselage
using M2 x 20 mm screws and M2 nuts glued to the inside of the fuselage; this enables you to
install or remove the weapons bearers at any time as required.

Solder together the pairs of brass tubes (25, 26) as shown in the picture: the two tubes should
be joined in one plane, forming a right-angle, and the tube 25 should exactly bisect the tube 26.
Note the 2 mm Ø hole at the front edge of part 25; this is important. You may need to drill it out
again after soldering the tubes together.
You will find a moulded-in line in the top of the GRP droptanks 27. Measure the exact centre
point of the tank along this line, and drill a 2 mm Ø hole at the marked point. Drill a second hole
on the underside exactly opposite the first.
Bend the mild steel rod 28 at right-angles at a point 20 mm from one end to form a hook; feed
the angled end into the top of the tank so that the “hook” rests on the inside of the top face of
the tank. Hold the tank upside-down and drip thin cyano onto the rod through the hole in the
underside; this will glue the rod to the inside of the tank. Check that the end of the rod projecting
at the top is exactly at right-angles to the tank surface. Allow the glue to set hard, then bend the
projecting rod end at an angle as shown in the picture, leaving a straight length of 22 mm
between the bend in the rod and the top face of the droptank. Place the spacer 29 on the tank,
set it exactly parallel to the moulded-in line, and glue it to the steel rod as shown.
When the glue has set hard, slide the angled end of the rod into the 2 mm Ø hole in part 25 as
far as it will go, so that the spacer 29 rests on the centre of part 26, as shown in the pictures.
Align these parts carefully relative to each other, then glue them together using thin cyano. It is
a good idea to force plenty of epoxy into the tube 25 to ensure that the angled end of the steel
rod hook is securely fixed to it.

Insert the tubes 25 of the completed droptank assemblies into the flanged bushes 24 on the
base units. Set the tanks parallel to the bottom of the fuselage, then drill a 1.5 mm Ø hole
through the flanged bush 24 and the tube 25. Fit a 2.2 x 6.5 mm self-tapping screw through the
parts to secure the droptank assembly.
Glue the wire cutter 31 to the central windscreen glazing bar using cyano, as shown in the
illustration.

Le ‘’Combat SAR’’, ou plus simplement ‘’CSAR, est le sauvetage d’unités ou d’équipages
d’avions atterris en territoire ennemi. Les hélicoptères utilisés pour cette mission disposent en
plus de l’équipement de sauvetage normal, de nombreux dispositifs supplémentaires pour le vol
à basse altitude et les interventions de nuit; radar et détecteur infra-rouge, réservoir supplé-
mentaires largables (’’Droptanks’’) pour augmenter leur rayon d’action ainsi que d’un armement
défensif adapté à la mission.
Le NH90 sera aussi réalisable en version CSAR; pour cela, un kit de conversion maquette cor-
respondant a été produit et avec lequel le kit de fuselage normal du NH90 pourra être modifié.
De plus, ce kit tient compte des continuelles modifications dans le cadre des autres développe-
ments de cet exemplaire d’hélicoptère, de même que pour la reproduction des autres variantes
de la version TTH (Hélicoptère de Transport Tactique) du NH90. Les Droptanks sont normale-
ment montés fixes, mais ils pourront aussi être rendus largables par radiocommande sur initia-
tive personnelle.
Contenu du kit de conversion :
Pièces moulées pour la modification du fuselage, telles que par ex. entrées d’air des turbines,
détecteurs, supports d’armes, réservoirs supplémentaires factices en fibre de verre et diverses
petites pièces.
La liste des pièces se trouve à la fin de ces instructions.
La livraison se fait en kit de montage. Tous les conseils de sécurité et les avertissements
ainsi que les indications spéciales données dans les manuels de la mécanique et du kit
de fuselage sont également valables pour ces accessoires et devront être observés.
Montage:
Assembler le FLIR (Détecteur infra-rouge) composé des pièces 1 à 6 conformément aux illus-
trations avec de la colle-seconde; bien coller la vis à tête fraisée avec le support.
Le joint de séparation du carénage de proue sera rapporté sur le dessus du fuselage avec une
petite lime conformément à l’illustration, il servira ensuite de ligne de référence pour
l’alignement des pièces 7 et 8 qui seront alors collées en place, comme montré sur l’illustration.

La plaque de fond 9 sera maintenant adaptée dans le recouvrement central 7. Percer ensuite
un trou de φ 3mm et coller un écrou spécial sur le dessus afin que le FLIR puisse être vissé par
le dessous. Vérifier que le FLIR soit disposé au milieu sous le recouvrement central et qu’il
puisse être tourné totalement (360°), comme montré sur l’illustration, puis coller ensuite la pla-
que de fond dans le recouvrement central.
Disposer le recouvrement inférieur exactement au milieu sous le nez du fuselage (‘’Bosse’’) de
façon à ce que le FLIR puisse toujours être tourné sur 360°.
Les socles latéraux gauche et droit pour les projecteurs et autres détecteurs pourront seule-
ment être montés lorsque la fenêtre latérale arrière aura été déplacée vers l’arrière en corres-
pondance de la version développée du NH90. Avec le fuselage livré actuellement, la fenêtre se
trouve déjà au bon emplacement; pour la conversion d’un ancien fuselage, l’ouverture de la fe-
nêtre existante devra être fermée et une nouvelle sera pratiquée plus en arrière. La distance
entre le bord avant de la fenêtre et le bord arrière de la porte est d’env. 150mm.
Les socles moulés seront disposés conformément à l’illustration, confectionner les projecteurs
en balsa et les coller en place.
Les entrées d’air 14 des turbines seront découpées conformément à l’illustration et collées sur
les fraisages existants dans le recouvrement supérieur du fuselage. Les bords avant (vus de
dessus) doivent former une ligne perpendiculaire à l’axe longitudinal. Le bord des entrées sera
épaissi avec une gaine en ABS de φ 3mm façonnée en correspondance et arrondie par masti -
cage et ponçage.

Le joint de séparation pour la queue du fuselage repliable sur l’original sera rapporté sur le
moulage avec une petite lime. Les pièces moulées pour la charnière 16 (Flanc droit du fuse-
lage) et pour le verrouillage 17 (Flanc gauche du fuselage) seront ensuite découpées et collés
sur le joint de séparation, comme illustré.
Les deux baguettes de pin 20 représentant le support du treuil de sauvetage seront collées es-
pacées de 25mm entre-elles; la baguette inférieure sera biseautée sur une longueur de 20mm
et coupée de niveau avec la baguette supérieur à l’autre extrémité.

Pratiquer une ouverture conformément à l’illustration dans la pièce inférieure 18 du treuil de
sauvetage pour le support 20 et coller celui-ci dedans, comme représenté. Veiller à ce que le
bord supérieur du support vienne à env. 3mm sous le bord de la pièce 18 et soit parallèle à ce-
lui-ci.
La pièce supérieure 19 sera ensuite encastrée sur la pièce inférieure jusqu’à ce qu’elle repose
sur le support 20, puis collée sur le bord dépassant de la pièce 18.
Le treuil ainsi terminé sera monté au-dessus de la porte droite conformément à l’illustration
après avoir pratiqué une ouverture adaptée dans le fuselage dans laquelle le support 20 sera
collé. (Une articulation réaliste pourra être confectionnée, comme illustré, sur initiative person-
nelle).
Découper les bases 21 des supports d’armes le long des lignes marquées. Coller le flasque 24
centré sur le moulage rond de chaque base avec de la colle-seconde et percer ensuite le trou
de φ 8mm.
