These installation and operating instructions
describe Grundfos CIM 260 and CIM 280 cellular
modules.
Sections 1-2 give the information necessary to be
able to install and start up the products in a safe way.
Sections 3-6 give important information about
operating the setup, as well as information about
fault finding and disposal of the product.

2. Installing the product

2.1 Security
Grundfos connected products must be behind a
firewall or connected to a private network.
If a firewall or private network is not in place, the
Grundfos product may be subject to a cyber-security
risk and becomes vulnerable to an attack or
compromise.
Follow the highly recommended configuration
requirements below. If in doubt, consult an IT
Infrastructure Specialist.
2.1.1 CIM 260, cellular
The CIM 260 modules are cellular-based modules
and require cellular connectivity through a private
Access Point Name (APN) to be securely connected
to the Internet. Any basic cellular connectivity
solution is not recommended, only private APNs are
recommended.
The private APN must be purchased from your
mobile network operator. The mobile network
operator will guide you through the setup process.

2.2 RF safety
The antenna used for the product in which CIM 260
or CIM 280 is fitted must be installed to provide a
separation distance of at least 20 cm from persons
and must not be co-located or operated in
conjunction with any other antenna or transmitter.
Interference of other electronic equipment may occur
if the equipment is inadequately protected.
2.3 Antenna precautions
The combined gain of the cable-antenna solution
used for this product must not exceed 2.0 dBi (800,
900, 1800, 2100, 2600 MHz).
2.4 Radio frequency radiation exposure
information (for Canada and US only)
This equipment complies with FCC and ISED
radiation exposure limits set forth for an uncontrolled
environment. This equipment must be installed and
operated with a minimum distance of 20 cm (0.66
feet) between the radiator and your body.

The enclosed FCC label must be attached near the
barcode label on the product in which the CIM
module is installed. Remember to write the host
marketing name (HMN) on the label according to the
table.
2.5 Fitting a cellular antenna
The antenna for CIM 260 or CIM 280 must be
connected to the module to establish connection to
the cellular network.
External antenna
See fig. 3.
Connect the antenna cable to the SMA connection
(pos. 1) of CIM 260 or CIM 280. The antenna must
be installed outside the control cabinet in a position
with good reception conditions. If required by the
telecom company, connect an additional antenna.

2.6 Inserting the SIM card
Before inserting the SIM card into CIM 260 or CIM
280, remove the PIN code, or set it to "4321".
Procedure
1. Insert the SIM card into a mobile phone.
2. Remove the PIN code from the SIM card, or set it
to "4321". See the manual of the mobile phone.
3. Insert the SIM card into CIM 260 or CIM 280. See
fig. 4.

2.7 Connecting the battery and power
supply
These safety precautions must be observed:
• Only insert the approved Grundfos battery pack
(99465650).
• Never use this battery pack in other battery
chargers.
• Do not dismantle or modify the battery.
• Do not heat or incinerate the battery.
• Do not pierce, crush or cause mechanical
damage to the battery.
• Do not short circuit the battery.
• Do not allow the battery to get wet or be
immersed in water.
• Do not strike or throw the battery.
• For long periods of storage, the storage
temperature should be below +35 °C.
2.7.1 Connecting the battery
The CIM 260 and CIM 280 cellular module can be
fitted with a lithium-ion battery, part number
99465650. It is secured by a velcro strap which
absorbs vibrations and makes it easier to replace the
battery. Connect the battery to CIM 260 or CIM 280
as shown in fig. 5. See the CIU quick guide for
placement of the battery on the CIU cover.

2.7.2 Connecting the power supply
Switch on the power supply. CIM 260 and CIM 280
are powered either by the Grundfos product in which
it is fitted or by the battery in case of a power cut.
LED1 is flashing yellow (searching for cellular
network). When the connection to the cellular
network has been established, the LED1 will pulsate
yellow (cellular network active). See fig. 7.
LED2 is permanently green (internal communication
between CIM 260 and the Grundfos product is OK).
CIM 260 is now ready for initialisation. See the
manual "CIM 260 SMS commands" and for
Dedicated Controls, see the manual with software
descriptions.
When installed from factory, the LED2 on CIM 280 is
permanently red until the product driver is installed.
See section 3.2 LEDs for more information.

3. Product introduction
3.1 Applications
CIM 260 or CIM 280 cellular module (CIM =
Communication Interface Module) enable data
transmission between a cellular network and a
Grundfos product.
CIM 260 communicates using Modbus TCP via
cellular data transmission to a SCADA system or
SMS communication to mobile phones.
CIM 280 communicates via cellular network to the
related cloud, for example, Grundfos iSolutions
Cloud, (requires a Grundfos contract).
In the following, "Grundfos product" means one or
more Grundfos products, depending on the actual
application.
CIM 260 and CIM 280 cellular module make it
possible to control and monitor a Grundfos product in
several ways:
• From a SCADA system via a data connection.
• From a mobile phone via SMS messages.
See the manual "CIM 260 SMS commands".
• From Grundfos iSolutions Cloud or the related
cloud where control takes place via a central
server. This is not described in this document.
CIM 260 or CIM 280 is supplied separately and must
be fitted in the product to be communicated with or in
a CIU unit (CIU = Communication Interface Unit).
Retrofitting of CIM 260 or CIM 280 is described in
the installation and operating instructions of the
Grundfos product.
3.1.1 CIM 260 or CIM 280 cellular module

If you want CIM 280 to connect to another
cloud than Grundfos iSolutions Cloud, for
example, Grundfos Remote Management,
it can take 3-4 minutes until the interface
reconnects at first communication process.

3.2 LEDs
CIM 260 and CIM 280 cellular module have two
LEDs.
See fig. 6.

Grundfos iSolutions Cloud (GiC) yet. When
the CIM 280 is switched on, the LED2 may
turn green for one minute before it turns
permanently red.
Permanently green. Internal communication between CIM
260 and the Grundfos product is OK.
Internal communication between CIM 280
and the Grundfos product is OK.
During startup, it may take up to 5 seconds
to update the LED2 status.

4. Fault finding the product
Faults in a CIM 260 or CIM 280 cellular module can
be detected by observing the status of the two
communication LEDs. See the table below and
section 3.2 LEDs.

This product or parts of it must be disposed of in an
environmentally sound way:
1. Use the public or private waste collection service.
2. If this is not possible, contact the nearest
Grundfos company or service workshop.

The crossed-out wheelie bin symbol on
a product means that it must be
disposed of separately from household
waste. When a product marked with this
symbol reaches its end of life, take it to a
collection point designated by the local
waste disposal authorities. The separate collection
and recycling of such products will help protect the
environment and human health.

2.1 Sicherheit
Angeschlossene Grundfos-Produkte müssen durch
eine Firewall geschützt oder an ein privates Netz-
werk angeschlossen werden.
Ist keine Firewall oder kein privates Netzwerk vor-
handen, kann das Grundfos-Produkt einem Cyberan-
griff ausgesetzt werden.
Es wird nachdrücklich empfohlen, die nachfolgend
beschriebenen Konfigurationsanforderungen zu
erfüllen. Wenden Sie sich im Zweifelsfall an eine IT-
Fachkraft.
2.1.1 CIM 260, Mobilfunk
Das CIM 260 sind Mobilfunkmodule. Sie erfordern
eine Mobilfunkverbindung über einen privaten
Access Point Name (APN), um sicher mit dem Inter-
net verbunden zu werden. Eine grundlegende Mobil-
funklösung wird nicht empfohlen, sondern nur private
APN.
Den privaten APN können Sie von Ihrem Mobilfunk-
betreiber erwerben. Der Mobilfunkbetreiber führt Sie
auch durch den Konfigurationsprozess.

2.2 Sicherheit bei Hochfrequenz-Strahlung
Das Gerät, in das das CIM 260 oder CIM 280 einge-
baut ist, verfügt über eine Antenne. Diese muss so
installiert werden, dass der vorgeschriebene Min-
destabstand zu Personen (20 cm) eingehalten wird.
Die Antenne darf zudem nicht zusammen mit ande-
ren Antennen oder Sendern montiert und betrieben
werden.
Ist das Gerät nicht ausreichend geschützt, können
andere elektrische Geräte in ihrer Funktion beein-
trächtigt werden.
2.3 Sicherheitsmaßnahmen in Bezug auf
die Antenne
Die Verstärkung der Kabel-Antennen-Lösung für die-
ses Produkt darf insgesamt den Wert 2,0 dBi (bei
800, 900, 1800, 2100 und 2600 MHz) nicht über-
schreiten.
2.4 Informationen zur Hochfrequenzstrah-
lung (nur für Kanada und die USA)
Dieses Gerät erfüllt die für eine unkontrollierte
Umgebung festgelegten FCC- und ISED-Grenzwerte
für Strahlenbelastung. Dieses Gerät muss so instal-
liert und betrieben werden, dass ein Mindestabstand
von 20 cm ( 0,66 Fuß) zu Personen eingehalten wird.
Dieser Sender darf nicht zusammen mit anderen
Antennen oder Sendern montiert oder betrieben wer-

Die mitgelieferte FCC-Kennzeichnung muss in der
Nähe des Barcodes auf dem Produkt angebracht
werden, in dem das CIM installiert ist. Denken Sie
daran, die HMN-Bezeichnung (Host Marketing
Name) gemäß der Tabelle auf dem Etikett zu
vermerken.
2.5 Montieren einer Mobilfunkantenne
Die Antenne muss an das Modul CIM 260 oder CIM
280 angeschlossen werden, um eine Verbindung
zum Mobilfunknetz herzustellen.
Externe Antenne

Schließen Sie das Antennenkabel an den SMA-
Anschluss (Pos. 1) vom CIM 260 oder CIM 280 an.
Die Antenne muss außerhalb des Schaltschranks an
einem Ort montiert werden, an dem gute Empfangs-
bedingungen herrschen. Schließen Sie eine zusätzli-
che Antenne an, wenn dies von Ihrem Telekommuni-
kationsunternehmen gefordert wird.

2.6 Einsetzen der SIM-Karte
Deaktivieren Sie vor dem Einsetzen der SIM-Karte in
das CIM 260 oder CIM 280 den PIN-Code oder stel-
len Sie ihn auf "4321" ein.
Vorgehensweise
1. Setzen Sie die SIM-Karte in ein Mobiltelefon ein.
2. Deaktivieren Sie den PIN-Code der SIM-Karte
oder stellen Sie ihn auf "4321" ein. Siehe die
Anleitung vom Mobiltelefon.
3. Setzen Sie die SIM-Karte in das CIM 260 oder
CIM 280 ein. Siehe Abb. 4.

2.7 Anschließen des Akkus und der
Stromversorgung
Folgende Sicherheitsmaßnahmen müssen beachtet
werden:
• Setzen Sie nur den von Grundfos zugelassenen
Akku (Teile-Nr. 99465650) ein.
• Laden Sie den Akku niemals mit anderen Lade-
geräten auf.
• Zerlegen und modifizieren Sie den Akku nicht.
• Erhitzen oder verbrennen Sie den Akku nicht.
• Durchbohren, brechen oder beschädigen Sie den
Akku nicht anderweitig.
• Schließen Sie den Akku nicht kurz.
• Setzen Sie den Akku keine Feuchtigkeit aus und
tauchen Sie ihn nicht in Wasser.
• Lassen Sie den Akku nicht auf den Boden fallen
und werfen Sie ihn nicht.
• Bei längerer Lagerung sollte die Lagertemperatur
unter +35 °C liegen.
2.7.1 Anschließen des Akkus
Das Mobilfunkmodul CIM 260 oder CIM 280 kann mit
einem Lithium-Ionen-Akku (Teile-Nr. 99465650) aus-
gestattet werden. Es wird mit einem Klettband gesi-
chert, das Vibrationen aufnimmt und den Austausch
des Akkus erleichtert. Schließen Sie den Akku wie in
Abb. 5 gezeigt an das CIM 260 oder CIM 280 an.

2.7.2 Anschließen der Stromversorgung
Schalten Sie die Stromversorgung ein. Das CIM 260
oder CIM 280 wird entweder über das Grundfos-Pro-
dukt, in das es eingebaut ist, oder durch den Akku
(im Falle eines Stromausfalls) mit Strom versorgt.
Die LED1 blinkt gelb (Suche nach dem Mobilfunk-
netz). Sobald die Verbindung zum Mobilfunknetz
hergestellt ist, leuchtet die LED1 kurz gelb auf
(Mobilfunknetz aktiv). Siehe Abb. 7.
Die LED2 leuchtet dauerhaft grün (die interne
Kommunikation zwischen dem CIM 260 und dem
Grundfos-Produkt erfolgt fehlerfrei).
Das CIM 260 ist jetzt bereit für die Initialisierung.
Siehe die Anleitung "CIM 260: SMS-Befehle" und für
Dedicated Controls die Anleitung mit den Software-
Beschreibungen.
Bei werkseitiger Installation leuchtet die LED2 am
CIM 280 dauerhaft rot, bis der Produkttreiber instal-
liert ist.

3. Produktübersicht
3.1 Anwendungen
Die Mobilfunkmodule CIM 260 und CIM 280 (CIM =
Communication Interface Module, Kommunikations-
schnittstellenmodul) ermöglichen die Datenübertra-
gung zwischen einem Mobilfunknetz und einem
Grundfos-Produkt.
Das CIM 260 kommuniziert mittels Modbus TCP und
Mobildatenübertragung mit einem SCADA-System
oder per SMS mit Mobiltelefonen.
Das CIM 280 kommuniziert über das Mobilfunknetz
mit einer zugehörigen Cloud, z. B. der Grundfos iSo-
lutions Cloud (ein Grundfos-Vertrag ist erforderlich).
Je nach vorliegender Anwendung steht „Grundfos-
Produkt“ im Folgenden für ein Produkt oder mehrere
Produkte von Grundfos.
Die Mobilfunkmodule CIM 260 und CIM 280 bieten
verschiedene Möglichkeiten, um ein Grundfos-Pro-
dukt zu regeln und zu überwachen:
• Per SCADA-System über eine Datenverbindung
• Per Mobiltelefon über SMS-Nachrichten.
Siehe die Anleitung „CIM 260: SMS-Befehle“.
• Per Grundfos iSolutions Cloud oder der zugehöri-
gen Cloud, wobei die Ansteuerung über einen
zentralen Server erfolgt. Dies wird in diesem
Dokument nicht beschrieben.
Das CIM 260 oder CIM 280 wird separat geliefert
und muss in das Produkt, mit dem die Kommunika-
tion erfolgt, oder in ein CIU (CIU = Communication
Interface Unit, Kommunikationsschnittstellengerät)
eingebaut werden.
Das nachträgliche Einbauen des CIM 260 oder CIM
280 ist in der Montage- und Betriebsanleitung des
jeweiligen Grundfos-Produkts beschrieben.
3.1.1 Mobilfunkmodule CIM 260 oder CIM 280

4. Störungssuche
Die Störungssuche bei einem Mobilfunkmodul vom
Typ CIM 260 oder CIM 280 erfolgt über den Status
der beiden Kommunikations-LEDs. Siehe die nach-
folgende Tabelle und Abschnitt 3.2 LEDs.
