Vorwort:
Vielen Dank für den Kauf der Hama FireWire
Combo PC Card. Sie haben sich für ein hoch-
qualitatives Produkt entschieden, mit dem Sie
mit Sicherheit noch lange Freude daran haben
werden. In dieser Anleitung wird Ihnen die
Installation und die Handhabung der Hama
FireWire Combo PC Card näher erläutert.
Anbei ein kurzer Überblick über die Technik:
FireWire bzw. IEEE 1394a:
IEEE 1394 (auch bekannt als FireWire und
iLink) wurde von den Firmen Apple Computer
und Sony gemeinsam entwickelt. FireWire ist
heutzutage der Standard in der digitalen
Videobearbeitung und findet auch vermehrt
Einsatz in anderen Bereichen wie, z.B.
Datensicherung oder im Netzwerkeinsatz.
Der FireWire Standard bietet eine leistungsfä-
hige und kostensparende Möglichkeit,
größere Datenbestände z.B. zwischen digita-
ler Foto/Videoequipment und ihrem PC zu
übertragen. Durch die rein digitale Verbindung
zwischen den beiden Komponenten können
keine Qualtätsverluste auftreten.
FireWire B bzw. IEEE 1394b:
IEEE 1394b, oder auch FireWire 800 genannt,
ist eine Weiterentwicklung des IEEE 1394a
Standards. Der neue Standard ist 100%
abwärtskompatibel, so dass Sie unseren
FireWire Combo PC Card Controller auch mit
Ihren zu dem alten Standard kompatiblen
FireWire Endgeräten benutzen können. Der
Hauptunterschied zu dem vorherigen
Standard ist unter anderen der neue 9- polige
Stecker und die verdoppelte Geschwindigkeit.
Beschreibung der Hama FireWire Combo
Controller PC Card:
Mit der Hama FireWire Combo PC Card,
erweiteren Sie ihren Notebook/Laptop um
zwei FireWire 800 und um einen FireWire 400
Anschluss.

Systemvorraussetzung:
•CPU 600 Mhz oder höher
•min. 128 MB RAM oder mehr

Hardwareinstallation:
Zum Einbau der Hama FireWire Combo PC
Card muss ein freier 32-bit Cardbus Typ II
Slot zur Verfügung stehen. Bitte lesen Sie im
Handbuch Ihres Notebooks/Laptops nach,
falls Sie sich nicht sicher sind, welchen
Cardbus Slot ihr Rechner zur Verfügung stellt.
Schieben Sie den CardBus-Controller entspre-
chend den Angaben zur Lage und Richtung
Ihres Computer-Herstellers in den CardBus-
Slot. Das optional anschließbare Netzteil ( 12
Volt, max. 1 A. ) dient zur Stromversorgung der
anzuschließenden Geräte über den
FireWire Bus.
Wichtige Hinweise zur
Stromversorgungsbuchse:
Die PC Card stellt angeschlossenen Geräten
Strom zur Verfügung. Der maximale Strom ist
abhängig vom verwendeten Notebook.
Funktionieren Geräte mit hohem Strombedarf
nicht richtig, dann empfiehlt sich der Einsatz
eines optionalen externen Netzteils.
Bitte beachten Sie:
Nur Schaltnetzteile mit folgenden
Spezifikationen verwenden
( wir empfehlen Hama Art. Nr. 046602 ).
•Spannung 12 V DC, Belastbarkeit
mindestens 1000 mA
•Polarität: außem Minus (-) und
innen Plus (+)
Verbinden Sie das Netzteil mit der Steckdose
und dann mit der PC Card, bevor Sie die Karte
am Computer einstecken.
Vorsicht: Bei Missachtung kann es zu
Beschädigung am Notebook oder angeschlos-
senen Gerät kommen!!!

Softwareinstallation:
1. Installation unter Windows 2000:
Bevor Sie die Hama FireWire Combo PC Card
in ihr Notebook einstecken, installieren Sie
bitte den Treiber von der beiliegenden CD-
ROM. Öffnen Sie mittels des Windows
Explorers ihr CD Laufwerk und öffnen folgen-
de Unterverzeichnisse Cardbus und anschlie-
ßend FireWire 800. In diesem Verzeichnis
befindet sich eine einzige Datei namens
Setup.exe. Bitte klicken Sie doppelt auf dem
Dateinamen und folgen nun den Anweisungen
des Installationsprogrammes. Bitte starten Sie
nach Aufforderung Ihren Notebook/Laptop
neu. Nachdem der Computer neu gestartet ist
können Sie die PC Card, wie bei der
Hardwareinstallation beschrieben einstecken.
Windows 2000 erkennt dann die PC Card auto-
matisch und lädt die entsprechenden Treiber
automatisch.
Ob die PC Card ordunungsgemäß installiert
wurde, können Sie unter Start ->
Systemsteuerung -> System -> Hardware ->
Geräte-Manager nachsehen. Dort müssen fol-
gende Einträge ohne gelbe Ausrufezeichen
vorhanden sein:
IEEE 1394 Bus-Hostcontroller
•Texas Instruments OHCI konformer
IEEE-1394-Host-Controller
•OHCI IEEE 1394b Host Controller
2. Installation unter Windows XP:
Bevor Sie die Hama FireWire Combo PC Card
in ihr Notebook einstecken, installieren Sie
bitte den Treiber von der beiliegenden CD-

Explorers ihr CD Laufwerk und öffnen folgende
Unterverzeichnisse Cardbus und anschlie-
ßend FireWire 800. In diesem Verzeichnis
befindet sich eine einzige Datei namens
Setup.exe. Bitte klicken Sie doppelt auf dem
Dateinamen und folgen nun den Anweisungen
des Installationsprogrammes. Bitte starten Sie
nach Aufforderung Ihren Notebook/Laptop
neu. Nachdem der Computer neu gestartet ist
können Sie die PC Card, wie bei der
Hardwareinstallation beschrieben einstecken.
Windows XP erkennt dann die PC Card auto-
matisch und lädt die entsprechenden Treiber
automatisch.
Ob die PC Card ordunungsgemäß installiert
wurde, können Sie unter Start ->
Systemsteuerung -> System -> Hardware ->
Geräte-Manager nachsehen. ( Bei manchen
Systemen müssen Sie hierzu auf „Zur klassi-
schen Ansicht wechseln“ klicken, um das
„System“ Icon zu sehen. ) Dort müssen fol-
gende Einträge ohne gelbe Ausrufezeichen
vorhanden sein:

•Texas Instruments OHCI konformer
IEEE-1394-Host-Controller
•OHCI IEEE 1394b Host Controller
Problemlösung:
Sollten sich Probleme mit dem PCMCIA-
Controller ergeben, so überprüfen Sie
bitte folgende Punkte, bevor Sie unsere
Hotline oder ihren Fachhändler kontaktieren:
•Ist der PCMCIA-Controller ordnungsgemäß
eingebaut?
•Stimmt die Verkabelung zwischen PCMCIA-
Controller und den angeschlossenen
Geräten?
•Ist an jedes angeschlossenes Gerät wenn
nötig ein Stromkabel angeschlossen?
•Überprüfen Sie bitte im Gerätemanager, ob
der Treiber richtig installiert ist.
Wenn Sie das Problem weiterhin nicht behe-
ben können, wenden Sie sich bitte an ihren
Fachhändler oder rufen unsere Hotline an.
Fragen und Antworten:
Frage: Wenn ich einen PCMCIA-Controller
verwende, müssen dann die OnBoard
FireWire/USB-Controller deaktiviert werden?
Antwort: Nein, der PCMCIA-Controller ist so
konzipiert, dass er problemlos
parallel zuden OnBoard Controllern betrieben
werden kann.
Frage: Kann man den CardBus Controller in
jeden PCMCIA-Slot einstecken?
Antwort: Nein, der CardBus-Controller kann
nur in CardBus Slots betrieben
werden, da diese nicht Steckerkompatibel zu
den älteren PCMCIA-Slots sind.
Hinweis für andere Betriebssysteme:
Standartmäßig werden nur die oben genann-
ten Betriebssysteme von der Firma Hama
unterstützt. Falls Sie das Produkt unter ande-
ren Betriebssystemen wie Linux usw. verwen-
den wollen, sehen Sie bitte vorher auf
www.hama.de nach, um den entsprechenden
Treiber herunterzuladen.
Sicherheitshinweise:
•Halten Sie das Gerät von Flüssigkeiten wie,
z.B. Wasser, Getränke usw, fern.
•Betreiben Sie das Gerät nicht in feuchten
Umgebungen oder anderen hochsensiblen
Bereichen!
•Das Gerät besitzt keine zu wartende
Bauteile, deshalb dürfen Reparaturen nur
von autorisiertem Fachpersonal vorge-
nommen werden.

Combo PC Card. You have chosen a high-qua-
lity product that you certainly will enjoy for a
long time to come. These instructions explain
the installation and handling of the Hama
FireWire Combo PC Card.
A brief overview of the technology:
FireWire/IEEE 1394a:
IEEE 1394 (also known as FireWire and iLink)
was developed jointly by the Apple Computer
and Sony companies. Today, FireWire is the
standard in digital video editing and is used
increasingly in other areas such as data bak-
kup or networking.
The FireWire standard provides a powerful
and economic opportunity to transfer greater
amounts of data between digital photo and
video equipment and your computer. Because
of the completely digital connection between
both components, there is no loss of quality.
FireWire B/IEEE 1394b:
IEEE 1394b, also called FireWire 800, is a furt-
her development of the IEEE 1394a standard.
The new standard is 100% backwards compa-
tible so that you can use the FireWire Combo
PC Card Controller with end devices compati-
ble with the previous standard. Some main dif-
ferences to the previous standard include the
new, nine-pin plug and twice the speed.
Description of the Hama FireWire Combo
Controller PC Card:
With the Hama FireWire Combo PC Card, you
are expanding your laptop by two FireWire 800
connections and by one FireWire 400 connec-
tion.

System requirements:
•CPU 600Mhz or higher
•128MB RAM or more
•CD-ROM drive
•Available 32-bit CardBus Type II slot
•Windows 2000 or Windows XP
(with current service pack)
Installing the Hardware:
To install the Hama FireWire Combo PC Card,
there must be at least one 32-bit CardBus
Type II slot available. Please read the instruc-
tions of your laptop if you are not sure which
CardBus slot is available on your computer.
Slide the CardBus Controller into the CardBus
slot according to the instructions of your com-
puter manufacturer regarding position and
direction. The optional power supply unit (12V,
maximum of 1A) is for supplying power to con-
nected devices through the FireWire Bus.
Important instructions for the
power supply socket:
The PC Card supplies power to connected
devices. The maximum power depends on the
laptop used. If devices that consume a large
amount of electricity do not function properly,
it is a good idea to use an optional external
power supply unit.
Please note:
Use only switching power supply units with
the following specifications (we recommend
Hama item no. 046602):
•12V DC current, at least 1000mA capacity
•Polarity: outer negative (-) and inner
positive (+)
Plug in the power supply unit and then con-
nect it to the PC card before you insert the
card in the computer.
Caution: Failure to observe this warning can
cause damage to the laptop or the connected
device!
Installing the Software:
1. Installation on Windows 2000:
Before you plug the Hama FireWire Combo PC
Card into your laptop, install the driver from
the accompanying CD-ROM. In Windows
Explorer, open the CD drive and open subdi-
rectories Cardbus and then FireWire 800. In
this directory, there is a single file named
Setup.exe. Double-click the file name and fol-
low the instructions from the installation pro-
gram. Restart your laptop when prompted to

do so. After the computer has been restarted,
plug in the PC Card as described in the hard-
ware installation. Windows 2000 automatically
recognises the PC Card and automatically
loads the appropriate drivers.
To check whether the PC Card is installed pro-
perly, select Start -> Control Panel -> System
-> Hardware -> Device Manager. The follo-
wing must appear without a yellow exclama-
tion mark:

2. Installation on Windows XP:
Before you plug the Hama FireWire Combo PC
Card into your laptop, install the driver from

Problem solution:
If there are problems with the PCMCIA con-
troller, check the following items before you
call our hotline or contact your representative:
•Is the PCMCIA controller inserted properly?
•Is the wiring between the PCMCIA con-
troller and the connected devices correct?
•Is each connected device connected to a
power cable if necessary?
•Check in Device Manager for whether the
driver is installed correctly.
If you still cannot solve the problem, contact
your representative or call our hotline.
Questions and Answers:
Question: If I use a PCMCIA controller, do I
need to deactivate the OnBoard FireWire/USB
controller?
Answer: No, the PCMCIA controller is desi-
gned to be operated in parallel with the
OnBoard controllers without any problems.
Question: Can I insert the CardBus controller
into any PCMCIA slot?
Answer: No, the CardBus controller can be
operated only in CardBus slots, as these are
not compatible with the older PCMCIA slots.

Note for other operating systems:
Fundamentally, only those operating systems
stated above are supported by the Hama com-
pany. If you wish to use this product with
another operating system such as Linux or
others, check first on www.hama.de to down-
load the corresponding drivers.

l´installation et l´emploi de la carte PC
FireWire Combo de Hama.
Ci-dessous un petit sommaire concernant la
technique :
FireWire ou IEEE 1394a:
IEEE 1394 (également connu sous le nom
FireWire et iLink) a été conçu par les entrepri-
ses Apple Computer et Sony. Aujourd´hui,
FireWire est le standard dans le traitement
vidéo numérique et s´utilise aussi souvent
dans d´autres domaines comme par exemple
la sauvegarde des données ou dans le systè-
me de réseau. Le FireWire standard offre une
possibilité économique et efficace pour trans-
mettre de grands fichiers comme par exemple
entre l´équipement photo/vidéo numérique et
votre micro-ordinateur. Par la connexion pure-
ment numérique entre les deux composants il
ne peut se produire aucune perte de qualité.
FireWire B ou IEEE 1394b :
IEEE 1394b, ou appelé aussi FireWire 800 est
un perfectionnement technique du IEEE 1394a
standard. Le nouveau standard a une compa-
tibilité descendante à 100%, ce qui signifie
que vous pouvez utiliser notre contrôleur de
carte PC FireWire Combo également avec les
postes terminaux FireWire compatibles avec
l´ancien standard. La différence principale par
rapport au standard précédent est entre
autres la nouvelle fiche à 9 broches et la
vitesse multipliée par deux.

Avec la carte PC FireWire Combo de Hama,
vous augmentez votre ordinateur portable de
deux FireWire 800 et d´une connexion
FireWire 400.

Installation du matériel (hardware) :
L´installation de la carte PC FireWire Combo
de Hama nécessite un emplacement libre
Cardbus 32 bits de type II. Si vous n´êtes pas
certain de connaître l´emplacement Cardbus
mis à disposition par votre ordinateur, veuillez
vérifier dans le manuel d´utilisation de votre
ordinateur portable. Insérez le contrôleur
CardBus dans l´emplacement CardBus dans la
direction et la position indiquées par le fabri-
cant de votre ordinateur. Le bloc secteur (12
Volt, max. 1A) que vous pouvez brancher en
option sert d´alimentation en courant pour les
appareils à connecter via le bus FireWire.
Indications importantes pour la prise d´ali-
mentation en courant :
La carte PC permet aux appareils connectés
de disposer de courant. Le courant maximal
dépend de l´ordinateur portable utilisé. Si les
appareils aux besoins importants de courant
ne fonctionnent pas correctement, nous vous
conseillons d´utiliser un bloc externe optionnel.
Veuillez observer :
Utilisez seulement des blocs de réseau de
distribution aux spécifications suivantes (nous
recommandons la réf. Hama 046602).
•Tension 12 V CC, capacité de charge d´au
moins 1000 mA

Raccordez le bloc secteur à la prise puis avec
la carte PC avant d´enficher la carte à l´ordi-
nateur.
Attention : En cas de non-respect, des dom-
mages peuvent être causés à votre ordinateur
portable ou à un appareil branché!
Installation du logiciel :
1. Installation sous Windows 2000 :
Avant d´insérer la carte PC FireWire Combo
de Hama dans votre ordinateur portable, veu-
illez installer le pilote du CD-ROM ci-joint. A
l´aide du Windows Exploreur ouvrez votre lec-
teur CD et les sous-répertoires suivants :
Cardbus et ensuite FireWire 800. Dans ce
répertoire se trouve un seul fichier du nom
Setup.exe. Veuillez double-cliquer le nom de
ce fichier et suivre à présent les instructions
du programme d´installation. A la demande de
votre ordinateur portable, procédez à un redé-
marrage. Une fois le redémarrage effectué,
vous pouvez insérer la carte PC comme il est
décrit dans l´installation du matériel. Windows
2000 reconnaît alors automatiquement la carte
PC et charge automatiquement les pilotes cor-
respondants.
Pour savoir si la carte PC est correctement
installée, vous pouvez vérifier en cliquant sur
Démarrer => Panneau de configuration =>
Système => Matériel (hardware) =>
Gestionnaire des périphériques. Les inscrip-
tions suivantes doivent alors apparaître sans
point d´exclamation jaune :

•Contrôleur Host IEEE-1394 conforme à
Texas Instruments OHCI
•Contrôleur Host OHCI IEEE 1394b

Méthode de résolution des problèmes :
Si vous rencontrez des problèmes avec le
contrôleur PCMCIA, veuillez vérifier les points
suivants avant de contacter notre ligne direc-
te (hotline) ou votre commerçant spécialisé :
•Est-ce-que le contrôleur PCMCIA est
correctement installé?
•Est-ce que le branchement entre le
contrôleur PCMCIA et les appareils
connectés est correct?
•Est-ce que le câble de courant nécessité
par certains appareils est bien raccordé?
•Veuillez vérifier dans le gestionnaire des
périphériques si le pilote est bien installé.
Si le problème n´est tout de même pas résolu,
contactez alors votre commerçant spécialisé
ou appelez-nous gratuitement à notre ligne
directe (hotline).
Questions et réponses :
Question : Quand j´utilise un contrôleur
PCMCIA, est-ce qu´il faut désactiver les con-
trôleurs OnBoard FireWire/USB?
Réponse : Non, le contrôleur PCMCIA est
conçu pour qu´il fonctionne sans problème en
parallèle avec les contrôleurs OnBoard.
Question : Peut-on insérer le contrôleur
CardBus dans chaque emplacement PCMCIA?
Réponse : Non, le contrôleur CardBus fonc-
tionne seulement dans des emplacements
pour CardBus puisque ceux-ci ne sont pas
compatibles au niveau des fiches avec les
anciens emplacements PCMCIA.
Indications pour les autres systèmes
d´exploitation :
Normalement, seuls les systèmes d´exploita-
tion de l´entreprise Hama cités ci-dessus sont
supportés. Dans le cas où vous souhaitez utili-
ser ce produit sous d´autres systèmes
d´exploitation comme Linux par exemple, veu-
illez auparavant consulter www.hama.de pour
télécharger le pilote correspondant.
Mesures de sécurité :
•Ne posez pas l´appareil près de liquides
comme par exemple, de l´eau, de boissons
etc...
•N´utilisez pas l´appareil dans des endroits
humides ou très sensibles
•L´appareil ne possède pas de composants à
entretenir, c´est pourquoi les réparations
doivent uniquement être effectuées par du
personnel spécialisé.
Garantie :
Les produits de Hama sont de qualité supéri-
eure et testés selon les normes de qualité
internationales très strictes. La durée de
garantie commence à la date de l´achat. La
garantie concerne exclusivement les défauts
de matériel et de fabrication et se limite seu-
lement à la valeur pure du produit, non à ses
pannes. La garantie fonctionne sur présenta-
tion de la quittance de paiement et une courte
description du problème. L´appareil doit être
complet, cela signifie que vous devez l´expé-
dier soigneusement emballé et franco de port.
Si la garantie est utilisée, le délai de garantie
n´est pas prolongé.
