To reduce the risk of electric shock, insure electricity1.
has been turned off at the circuit breaker or fuse box
before beginning.
All wiring must be in accordance with the National2.
Electrical Code ANSI/NFPA 70-1999 and local electrical
codes. Electrical installation should be performed by a
qualied licensed electrician.
WARNING:3. To reduce the risk of re or electric shock, do
not use this fan with any solid-state speed control device.
The outlet box and support structure must be securely4.
mounted and capable of reliably supporting a minimum of
35 pounds. Use only UL Listed outlet boxes marked “FOR
FAN SUPPORT.”
The fan must be mounted with a5. minimum of 7 feet
clearance from the trailing edge of the blades to the oor.
Do not operate reversing switch while fan blades are in6.
motion. Fan must be turned off and blades stopped before
reversing blade direction.
Avoid placing objects in path of the blades.7.
To avoid personal injury or damage to the fan and8.
other items, be cautious when working around or
cleaning the fan.
Do not use water or detergents when cleaning the fan or fan

blades. A dry dust cloth or lightly dampened cloth will be
suitable for most cleaning.
After making electrical connections, spliced conductors10.
should be turned upward and pushed carefully up into
outlet box. The wires should be spread apart with the
grounded conductor and the equipment-grounding
conductor on one side of the outlet box and ungrounded con-
ductor on the other side of the outlet box.
Electrical diagrams are for reference only. Light kits that are11.
not packed with the fan must be UL Listed and marked suit-
able for use with the model fan you are installing. Switches
must be UL General Use Switches. Refer to the instructions
packaged with the light kits and switches for proper assembly.
All set screws must be checked and retightened where neces-12.
sary before installation.

2. Unpacking Your Fan

Unpack your fan and check the contents. You should have the following items: Loose Parts Bag Containing:

Phillips screw driver, straight slot screw
driver, adjustable wrench, step ladder, and
wire cutters.
Mounting Options
If there isn’t an existing outlet box, then read
the following instructions. Disconnect the
power by removing fuses or turning off
circuit breakers.
Secure the outlet box directly to the building
structure. Use appropriate fasteners and
building materials. The outlet box and its
support must be able to fully support the
moving weight of the fan (at least 35 lbs.)
Do not use plastic outlet boxes.
Figures 1, 2, and 3 are examples of different
ways to mount the outlet box.
Outlet Box
To hang your fan where there is an existing
xture but no ceiling joist, you may need an
installation hanger bar as shown in Figure 3
(available at your Hampton Bay retailer).

Hanging the Fan
REMEMBER to turn off the pow-
er. Follow the steps below to hang your
fan properly.
Securely attach the mounting plate to1.
the outlet box using the two screws sup-
plied with the outlet box (Figure 4). Pull
the black, white and ground wires out of
the outlet box and through the hole in the
mounting plate and lay them to the side.
Carefully lift the fan motor assembly and2.
engage the slot in the motor bracket with
the hook on the mounting plate so that it
is securely suspended (Figure 5). Then
connect the wiring to your fan according
to the section “Making the Electrical Con-
nections”.
Once wiring is completed, lift the motor3.
bracket so that the threaded studs on the
mounting plate protrude through the slots
in the motor bracket (Figure 5). Securely
tighten the three 1/4” locknuts (supplied)
onto the threaded studs, then try to shake
the motor bracket to ensure that the assem-
bly is tight (Figure 6).

FOR BETTER FAN PERFORMANCE, MAKE SURE
THE MOUNTING PLATE IS LEVEL. ADDITIONAL
WASHERS (NOT INCLUDED) MAY BE NEEDED
TO INSERT BETWEEN THE OUTLET BOX AND
MOUNTING PLATE (FIGURE 4).

Making the Electrical
Connections
REMEMBER to disconnect the power.
If you feel you do not have enough electrical
wiring knowledge or experience, have your fan
installed by a licensed electrician.
Follow the steps below to connect the fan
to your household wiring. Use the wire
connecting nuts supplied with your fan.
Secure the connectors with electrical tape.
Make sure there are no loose strands or
connections.
Connect the ground conductor of the 120v
1.
supply (this may be a bare wire or a wire
with green colored insulation) to the green
ground leads from the motor bracket and the
mounting plate of the fan (Figure 7).
Connect the fan motor white wire to the
2.
supply white (neutral) wire using a wire nut
supplied (Figure 7).
Connect the fan motor black and blue wires
3.
to the supply black (hot) wire using a wire
nut supplied (Figure 7).
After connecting the wires, spread them
4.
apart so that the green and white wires are
on one side of the outlet box and the black
wire is on the other side.
Turn the wire connecting nuts upward and
5.
push the wiring into the outlet box.
TO REDUCE THE RISK OF FIRE OR ELECTRIC SHOCK, DO NOT USE A SOLID STATE SPEED CONTROL
WITH THIS FAN. IT WILL PERMANENTLY DAMAGE THE ELECTRONIC CIRCUITRY.
CHECK TO SEE THAT ALL CONNECTIONS ARE TIGHT, INCLUDING GROUND, AND THAT NO BARE
WIRE IS VISIBLE AT THE WIRE NUTS, EXCEPT FOR THE GROUND WIRE.
ELECTRICAL DIAGRAMS ARE FOR REFERENCE ONLY. OPTIONAL USE OF ANY LIGHT KIT SHALL BE
UL LISTED AND MARKED SUITABLE FOR USE WITH THIS FAN.

Finishing the Fan
Installation
Remove the two screws on two diagonal1.
sides from the top of the mounting plate and
loosen the other two screws (Figure 8).
Align the two key slots on the top of the2.
motor housing with the two screws on the
mounting plate, push the motor housing up
and turn it clockwise to lock in plate, tighten
the two screws.
Install the two screws that were removed3.
in step 1 into the remaining two holes and
tighten rmly four screws.
Attaching the
Fan Blades
NOTE: Your fan blade are reversible. Select
the blade side nish which best accentuates
your decor.
Attach blade to blade bracket using the1.
screws supplied (Figure 9). Please note that
the rubber washers are pre-attached to the
blade bracket. Start a screw into the bracket.
Repeat for the two remaining screws.
Tighten each screw securely.2.
Fasten the blade assembly to the motor by3.
inserting the alignment posts into the slot
on the bottom of the motor and tightening
the motor screws. Please note that the mo-
tor screws are pre-attached into the blade
brackets (Figure 10).
Repeat steps 1-3 for the remaining blades.4.
Blade Balancing
All blades are grouped by weight. Because nat-
ural woods vary in density, the fan may wobble
even though the blades are weight matched.
The following procedure should correct most
fan wobble. Check after each step.
Check that all blade screws are secure.1.
Most fan wobble problems are caused when2.
blade levels are unequal. Check this level by
selecting a point on the ceiling above the tip
of one of the blades. Measure from a point
on the center of each blade to the point on
the ceiling. Measure this distance as shown

TO REDUCE THE RISK OF PERSONAL INJURY,
DO NOT BEND THE BLADE HOLDERS WHILE
INSTALLING, BALANCING THE BLADES, OR
CLEANING THE FAN. DO NOT INSERT FOREIGN
OBJECTS BETWEEN ROTATING BLADES.
Attaching the Light Kit
& Glass Bowl
CAUTION - To reduce the risk of electrical
shock, disconnect the electrical supply circuit
to the fan before installing the light xture.
Loosen the three serrated head screws on1.
the switch cup cover of the light kit tter
(Figure 12).
Connect the wires from the light kit tter 2.
to the wires from the switch cup of the fan
motor assembly by connecting the molded
adaptor plugs together (blue to black, white
to white). Carefully tuck all wires and splic-
es into the switch cup.
Align the three serrated head screws on the3.
switch cup cover of the light kit tter with
the three key slots in the switch cup. Make
sure the notch in the switch cup cover of the
light kit tter clears the reversing switch in
the switch cup. Position the light kit tter
on the switch cup and turn it clockwise un-
til it locks. Tighten the three serrated head
screws that were loosened in step 1 to se-
cure the light kit tter (Figure 12).
Remove the rubber washer, hex nut, bottom4.
cover and the nial from the light kit tter
(Figure 13).
With power off, install two 60 watt (maxi-5.
mum) candelabra base bulbs (included) into
the light kit tter sockets.

blade is positioned for measurement. Repeat
for each blade. Measurement deviations
should be within 1/8”. Run the fan for 10
minutes.
Use the enclosed Bladed Balancing Kit if3.
the blade wobble is still noticeable.
Position the glass bowl over the threaded6.
nipple and pass the fan switch chain through
the side hole in the glass bowl.
Re-install the rubber washer and hex nut7.
to the threaded nipple of the light kit t-
ter to secure the glass bowl properly.
DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN THE HEX
NUT, OVERTIGHTENING THE HEX
NUT MAY CAUSE THE GLASS TO
BREAK.
Re-install the bottom cover and nial and 8.
nger tighten the nial.
CAUTION - Be sure that the fan switch chain
does not make contact with the light bulbs.

YOUR FAN/SWITCH CUP COVER MAY NO
LOOK EXACTLY LIKE THE ILLUSTRATION.
HOWEVER, THE INSTALLATION IS THE SAME.

Fan Without Light Kit
In order to use the fan without the light kit,1.
remove the switch cup cover from the top
of the light kit tter by removing the center
hex nut inside the switch cup cover, and
then thread the switch cup cover out of the
threaded nipple on the top of the light kit
tter. Remove three serrated head screws.
Press the plastic plug (provided) into the2.
center hole of the switch cup cover.
Align the three screw holes in the switch3.
cup cover with the three key slots in the
switch cup. Make sure the notch in the
switch cup cover clears the reversing
switch in the switch cup (refer to Figure 12
on page 7).
Position the switch cup cover onto the4.
switch cup and install the three serrated
head screws that were removed in step 1.
Turn the switch cup cover clockwise until
it locks, tighten the three serrated head
screws.
