Preface
This is the first issue of the Commissioning instructions for the
Mains Powered Distributed Amplifier Unit. The manual covers
information on how to commission the unit.
These instructions must be read in conjunction with the
recommendations in BS5839: Part 8, which is the Code of
practice for the design, installation and servicing of voice alarm
systems and BS5839: Part 1,which is the Code of practice for
Fire detection and alarm systems for buildings and site specific
Project requirement.

Mains Powered DAU Commissioning process
Carry out to ensure the installation is to site specific requirements
and to the relevant standards and as per installation guidelines.
Initial checks
Ensure all the are securely fitted and all internal cables are
connected to their intended sockets.

Ensure cables of are connected to their designated terminal
blocks on the MCB, see page 8.
external circuits
Check each and ensure the measurements are
consistent with the number of End-of-Line resistors fitted, see page 9. If required
connect a Test microphone.
speaker circuit resistance
Connect the batteries and switch ON the mains supply to power up the Mains
Powered DAU, see page11 and page 12. Observe power up indications.
Conduct a and ensure all the LEDs on the Main Powered DAU facia and
local buzzer are working, see page 15.
lamp test
If necessary during commissioning the Mains Powered DAU you can disable the
.local buzzer
It is VERY important to ensure the local buzzer is re-enabled on
leaving site and on completion of commissioning work.
Resolve any given and ensure the Mains DAU is fault free,
see pages 17 to 19.
fault indications
Ensure the location of all the Mains Powered DAUs in the Vigilon Compact VA system
are known and are fitted in accordance with the ‘as fitted wiring drawings’, use the
function at the Vigilon Compact VA panel to find each
Mains Powered DAU, see page 20.
Find Device
Carry out to ensure faults are indicated at the Main Powered DAU,
see page 21.

Connect the Commissioning Tool to the Compact VA panel and retrieve the
system. Configure the entire system and ensure all the

Initial checks
Compatibility
Note the the Mains Powered DAU is compatible with system:
¨Control panel having Main Controller at V4.41 or higher and Loop Processor at V4.39 or higher
¨Commissioning tool at V1.26 or higher
Other checks
¨Ensure the Mains Powered DAU is securely mounted.
¨Ensure the mains cable enters the enclosure through a dedicated cable entry hole, the right most entry point.
Check the mains cable is securely connected to the mains terminal block on the Power Supply Unit (PSU),
see page 12.
&At this stage ensure the mains power to the Mains Powered DAU is switched OFF.
¨Ensure the number of Mains Powered DAUs installed in the system are within recommendations
(10 maximum per loop and 20 maximum per Vigilon Compact VA system).
If micro DAUs are also installed in the same system, then each micro DAU counts as one Mains Powered DAU.
¨Connect the Earth lead from the backbox to the spade connector on the inside of the door, see page 6.
¨Connect the ribbon cable from the Main Control Board (MCB) to the HMI board, see page 6.
¨Check the cables from the transformers are connected to the respective sockets on the MCB, see page 7.
¨Ensure all the cables of the external circuits are connected to the respective terminal block, see page 8 and for
details see the publication Mains Powered DAU installation instructions (4188-954 issue 1 Part 1).
¨Check with the installer that all the Speaker circuits have been terminated with End-of-Line (EOL) 10K resistor(s)
as per project requirements.
¨Also check with the installer to ensure all the cable length recommendations have been followed, for details see the
publication Mains Powered DAU installation instructions (4188-954 issue 1 Part 1)

Internal wiring and assembly
aRemove and discard the protective cardboard Cover jwhich may be fitted over the Main Control Board (MCB).
bConnect Ribbon cable from the MCB to the HMI board socket kand secure the cable to the door using the Ribbon Cable
Clampl.
cFit the Earth Cable from the Backbox to the spade connector point mon the Door.
dEnsure MCB, Amplifier Board, Message Store Card and HMI Board are all securely fitted.
eEnsure all the ribbon cables are securely fitted into their respective sockets.

How to check a Speaker Circuit resistance
To avoid a speaker circuit mismatch fault it is a good idea to check the speaker circuit resistance.
&Before checking the speaker circuit resistance always ensure the Mains Powered DAU is powered
down with mains supply switched OFF and battery supply disconnected.
Then using a suitable multimeter measure the speaker circuit resistance. Ensure the measured resistance reflect the number of
End-of-line (EOL) resistors connected on a speaker circuit. If there are differences then ensure the error is corrected. Note the
number of EOL resistors fitted to each speaker circuit, this information is required for entry into the Commissioning tool later.
On completion of measurement tests reconnect the terminal block to the Main Control Board (MCB).

How to wire and configure a Test Microphone
A hand-held test microphone can be connected to the Mains Powered DAU to allow local speaker circuits to be tested. A suitable test
microphone such as SHURE model number 596LB can be connected to the MCB.
Wiring a local test microphone
Commissiong tool settings
During system commissioning ensure the settings at the Commissioning tool are configured for a local microphone at eachMains
Powered DAU. Ensure the Local MIC option is unchecked.
Set the Local MIC2audio priority is set to 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7 by clicking on the required radio button:
If required, the 'Mains DAU Aux Relay' can be checked to allow the local microphone operation to switch the auxiliary relay.
MCB settings
Ensure the link P11 on the MCB is configured to ENABLE when there is a local test microphone connected to terminal block PB9.
