General Information
About this guide:
The information and instructions written in this
guide are merely for the safe operation and
use of the HORSCH Maestro SW planting
machine.
This document is intended for the operator to
use and read thoroughly before operation of
the machine so as not to create ahazardous
situation and/or put anyone or themselves in
harm’s way.Failure to follow written
procedures may result in machine damage,
property damage and/or personal injury.
Please comply with all noted warnings and
cautions.
These instructions are for the basic operation
only for this machine.See model year specific
machine Owner’s Manual for further detailed
information and safety guidelines.

Machine Check List:
Seed Meter checks:
1. Inspect each seed meter housing and components for
damage and wear.
2. Clean seed meter housings.
SOD System checks:
1. Inspect tank lid seals and door latches for condition and
adjustment.
2. Inspect SOD manifolds for damage.
3. Inspect SOD manifold doors, slides, and slide plugs for
condition and leaks.
4. Check SOD system for leaks above manifolds.
5. Inspect seed hoses for damage and condition.
6. Inspect meter inlets for plugged holes and or damage.
7. Inspect fan for proper operation and leaks.
8. Clean SOD system.
Row Unit, toolbar, Cart checks:
1. Torque row unit mount bolts.
2. Check mount plate for cracks or damage.
3. Check parallel arm hardware.
4. Inspect gauge wheels for wear and damage including
bearings, re shim gauge wheels.
5. Inspect opener discs for wear and damage including
bearings, re shim opener discs
6. Inspect opener disc scrapers both inner and outer for wear
and damage.
7. Inspect seed delivery tubes for wear and damage.
8. Clean seed delivery tubes and sensors with dish soap and
water and rinse out.
9. Inspect firming wheels/ firmer for wear and damage.
10. Inspect closing wheels for wear and damage including
bearings.
11. Inspect closing system down pressure springs.
12. Inspect toolbar for cracks or damage.
13. Remove toolbar end covers and clean inside of toolbar.
14. Inspect cart frame for cracks or damage.
15. Re-torque cart and wing gauge wheel hardware.
16. Check cart and wing gauge wheel bearings.
17. Inspect hitch and safety chain for wear and damage.
18. Inspect hydraulic system for leaks.
19. Grease all lube points.

Electrical system checks:
1. Test tractor batteries.
2. Check tractor battery cable connections to make sure they
are clean and tight. Recommended to clean connections
even if they look clean.
3. Check extra power cable and tractor ISO cable connections
at battery. Make sure they are clean and tight.
4. Check extra power and tractor ISO cable for proper routing
and damage.
5. Inspect harnesses on planter from hitch to row motors for
clean connections, routing, and damage.
6. Check all planter sensors using diagnostic procedures, incl.
SOD & Vac. Speed, vacuum, bin empty, toolbar pot., seed
tube, etc.…
7. Operate row motors from diagnostics and inspect any
motors above 1.2amps.
8. Operate liquid system from diagnostics and monitor flow
valve and flow meter functions.
9. Check road lights.
10. Operate SOD fan, lower toolbar and monitor down pressure
gauge as down pressure is increased and decreased.
11. Inspect AutoForce sensors and recalibrate if equipped.
Liquid Fertilizer System:
1. Fill with water and flush entire system out.
2. Clean screen.
3. Clean flow meter.
4. Clean nozzle bodies and orifices.
5. Check for leaks.
6. Install correct orifices according to rate and speed.
7. Inspect lid and screen.
8. Inspect tank for cracks or damage.
9. Inspect pump for leaks.
10. Inspect fertilizer tubes on row units for wear and damage
and clean.
11. Re-calibrate flow meter.
12. Install correct flow-view balls for product being used.

Maestro SW Planter Hook-Up consists of the
following connections:
1. Lift/Lower, Fold/Unfold Hydraulic Hoses
2. Vacuum Fan Hydraulic Hoses (x2 if 47/4815)
3. SOD Fan Hydraulic hoses
4. Liquid Fertilizer Pump Hydraulic hoses if
equipped
5. Case Drain Hose (single hose)
6. ISO Connector
7. Extra Power Connector x2 if 47/4815 (not
available on 1630 planters)
8. Road Lighting Connector
IMPORTANT!Always hook up Case Drain first,
prior to machine operation to avoid any issues!

Hitch Height/Toolbar Angle
Hitch height is critical to the proper row
unit/seed tube angle to provide the best seed
placement.
With the toolbar completely lowered, the top
of the toolbar should be level to 3 degrees
tilted back compared to top of axle or level
ground surface. In the example picture to the
left, the toolbar is shown tilted forward so
adjustment needs to be performed.
The first adjustment that should be made is
move the hitch to a lower set of holes (shown
to the right) to raise the hitch height and angle
the toolbar back.
Minor adjustments may be made by adding or
removing shims from the toolbar cylinders.
Lastly, on pre-2018 2430 models, the gauge
wheel cylinder stop may need to be changed,
or other size stops added/removed, to provide
a level toolbar across the span of the
machine.
Note: The
CAT IV/V
Hitch may
not be
compatible
with some
lighter duty
tractor
draw bars.

Liquid Fertilizer System Troubleshooting
Liquid system will not turn on:
Check that the five inputs are sent to ECU:
1. Master Switch (on)
2. Target Rate
3. Speed
4. Work Signal
5. Sections (on)
6. Failed master ECU
7. Failed flow valve
8. Failed section valves
9. Damaged wiring to electrical components
Low liquid flow:
1. Orifice in nozzle is too small or too many are plugged
2. Too many row unit tubes plugged
3. Plugged system screen
4. Low system pressure (turn tractor flow control up)
5. Kinked/damaged hoses
6. Improper system calibration
High liquid flow:
1. Failed flow valve
2. Failed flow meter
3. Plugged flow meter
4. Improper system calibration
