Rack mount tray installation
HP xw4000 Workstation series
This document describes how to install a rack mount tray on an HP xw4000 series workstation. It also
describes how to mount the workstation in a rack.

CAUTION: Static electricity can damage the electronic components of the workstation. Before
beginning these procedures, be sure you are discharged of static electricity by briefly touching a
grounded metal object.
CAUTION: To prevent damage to this system, observe the following Electro Static Discharge (ESD)
precautions while performing the system parts removal/replacement procedures:
— Work on a static-free mat.
— Wear a static strap to ensure that any accumulated electrostatic charge is discharged from your body
to the ground.
— Create a common ground for the equipment you are working on by connecting the static-free mat,
static strap and peripheral units to that piece of equipment.

Step 1—Preparing the workstation
Your workstation documentation includes instructions for preparing the workstation for installation.
To prepare the workstation for component installation:
1. Power down the workstation.
2. Disconnect power from the workstation.

workstation at http://www.hp.com/support/workstation_manuals.
Step 2—Attaching the rack mount tray to the workstation
1. Using a T-15 Torx driver, remove the two middle chassis screws (1) from the rear of the workstation
and set them aside for reuse.

2. Place the workstation (1) in the tray (2).
3. Guide the front bezel of the workstation (3) forward, under the lip of the tray (4).
4. Lower the workstation onto the tray.

5. Align the screw holes in the tray with the screw holes at the rear of the workstation (1).

6. Use a T-15 Torx driver to fasten the tray to the workstation with the two chassis screws set aside
in Step 1.
Step 3—Mounting the workstation rack
1. Attach the rails to the rack. Refer to the rail installation instructions in this kit.
2. Remove the adhesive backing from the back of the guide strips.
3. Apply a guide strips to the top surface of each rail.

4. Place the workstation with the attached tray (1) onto the rails (2) in the rack.
5. Slide the workstation all the way into the rack.
6. Use a cross-tip screw driver to secure the workstation to the rail mounting flanges with two M6
screws (3).

Step 4—Completing installation
After installation, restore power and power up the workstation.
