Huawei E5186 Quick Start Page 15
First time use
Activate the Mobile Internet Router
After the SIM-card has been inserted and the power adapter has been connected, the Mobile Internet Router can be switched on with the Power-button
[10].
After that, several lights will start to burn or blink.
Note! All settings in your device are already pre-set in the factory at production in such a way that you don’t have to do or change anything.
The device will then automatically enter the PIN-code of the SIM-card (which is by default 0000 in case of a new SIM-card), end immediately after that it
will register to the mobile network of KPN and then to the internet.
We advise you to gently wait for a few minutes, until the Mode-indicator [2] burns Cyan or Blue, and the Signal-indicator [5] indicates the signal-strength.
Then the device is ready for use.
After that, you can:
1. Connect a PC or Laptop via a network-cable to one of the LAN-ports [14], after that you can browse the internet via these computers.
2. Register a Laptop or Tablet or SmartPhone via WiFi to the Mobile Internet Router (see chapter below here), after which you can browse the internet
with these.
Register devices via WiFi
The Mobile Internet Router has a so-called “Dual band” WiFi transmitter, which transmits at 2 frequencies at the same time (2,4GHz and 5GHz).
Depending on the device that you want to register, you can find up to 2 WiFi networks. The choice of which to take of these 2 depends on:
-2,4GHz has a somewhat further reach
-5GHz can lead to a somewhat faster WiFi connection
The way how to register your devices via WiFi to this Mobile Internet Router can/will differ per device. Basically you can register all devices that support
WiFi, like Laptops, Tablets, SmartPhones, Smart-TV’s, Media-players, Blu-Ray players, AV-Receivers, NAS-devices, Printers etc.
The way how to register is different for each type of device, only need to be done once, and can only be described in a global way, as follows:
1. In the operating of the device, search for a menu with “Networks” or “Connections” and then “Wireless” or “WiFi”.
2. Start searching for WiFi networks here.
3. Watch whether WiFi devices are found in which the network-name (=SSID) contains “HUAWEI-E5186”.
4. You will then see (up to) 2 WiFi networks of the Mobile Internet Router.
5. Choose one of the two.
6. The device will now ask for the WiFi Password, this can also be called “WEP-key” or “WPA-key” or “WPA2-key”.
7. This password can be found on the sticker at the back of the Mobile Internet Router, in the bottom line, named “Wi-Fi Key: xxxxxxxxxxx”, and is a mix
of capitals, small letters and numbers.
8. This password must be entered identically; then choose “OK” or “Connect”, and after that the device is registered to the Mobile Internet Router via
WiFi.
9. The registered device now has access to the internet, and it will always register to the Mobile Internet Router automatically whenever it is within
reach.
Using a USB-storage device
In the USB-port [12] at the back of the Mobile Internet Router, you can connect a USB storage device, like a USB-memory-stick or hard disk (the last one
when necessary with its own power-supply). After that it is possible to share the content of this USB-storage device with the users that are connected to
the Mobile Internet Router, either users that are connected via a network cable or the ones that are registered via WiFi.
Basically this can be all kinds of files that can be on a USB-storage device like for example pictures, videos, music and documents.
The users who want to do that, have to be connected to the Mobile Internet Router via the designated App or the Web Managament Page, see the next
chapters for that.
