Blood
Pressure Operation (use the 5-button control panel)
1. Turn device on, or press CCLLEEAARRto clear memory between patients.
2. Attach correct size of cuff to the upper arm of the patient.
3. Press CCYYCCLLEEto select a cycle time of 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 minutes (Automatic
Mode) or SP (Manual Mode).
4. Press NNIIBBPP
SSTTAARRTTto initiate the blood pressure measurements.
5. Press SSTTOOPPat any time to pause the measurements.
6. Press RREEVVIIEEWWto scroll through previous readings and average (the first
reading is automatically discarded from the average).
This guide is intended as a quick reference for experienced users. All users
should review and understand the full operating instructions as detailed in this
User Manual.
Power
ON/OFF
1. Locate the black power switch on the back surface near the top right
(as viewed from the front of the device).
Temperature
Operation (use the 2-button control panel)
1. Connect appropriate temperature probe to device: blue for oral and
axillary, red for rectal.
2. Press temperature MMOODDEEto select: single/oral, single/axillary,
continuous/oral, or continuous/axillary (Smartsigns® LITE Series will
automatically go into continuous mode for rectal measurements).
3. Withdraw probe from the probe holder and insert into a new disposable
probe cover.
4. Press temperature SSTTAARRTTto initiate measurement.
5. Place and hold the temperature probe in correct position as described in
the manual.
6. In single measurement mode, a tone will sound and the results are
displayed after 15 seconds.
7. In Continuous Mode, wait 4 minutes before recording the measurement,
and then press temperature SSTTAARRTTto complete the continuous
measurement.
8. Discard the used probe cover and place the temperature probe into
probe holder.

interconnected, the summation of leakage currents may
constitute a hazard.
The accuracy of the readings obtained from this
equipment may be affected by the presence of a
pacemaker or by cardiac arrhythmia.

WWaarrnniinnggIf the Temperature Probe cover is damaged, sterilise the
Temperature Probe before re-use to minimise risk of cross
contamination.
Prolonged or excessive use of the Smartsigns® LITE Series may lead to
tissue injury, venous pooling, and impairment of circulation in the arm of the
patient.
The device may not meet its performance specifications if used or stored
outside the specified temperature and humidity ranges.

Remove or disconnect the battery if the device is not to be used for a
prolonged time.
Dispose of the battery in accordance with local regulations. Do not
incinerate.
The USB port on the Smartsigns® LITE Series is susceptible to electrostatic
discharges (ESD). Precautions should be taken when using the USB cable
with the device, including turning off the device and not taking any
measurements while the USB cable is being installed or removed.
A troubleshooting guide is included in this manual. Please consult that
section if an error or question arises regarding the operation of the
Smartsigns® LITE Series.

Symbol
The following symbols are used on the Smartsigns® LITE Series device,
and their definitions are described below: -
Class II electrical equipment.
Type BF applied part, with defibrillator Protection.
Attention, consult accompanying documents for further
information.
Power symbol, showing that DC power with the specified
polarity should be used with the Smartsigns® LITE Series. Only
the specified power supply should be used with the device.
Device malfunction. Consult the Error Messages and
Troubleshooting section.
1.3 Safety Symbols and Definitions
Huntleigh Healthcare takes every precaution to ensure that their goods
reach you in perfect condition. We recommend that a thorough visual
inspection is made prior to installation. Should any damage be evident or
any parts missing, ensure that Huntleigh Healthcare, Diagnostic Products
Division are informed at once.

The Smartsigns® LITE Series are a range of automated, non-invasive blood
pressure monitors, designed to measure blood pressure using an upper
arm cuff.

The Smartsigns® LITE Series
has two modes:

and a USB Port. The SSLL551100also includes electronic thermometry which,
when used with the appropriate temperature probe and probe cover, can be
used to collect continuous oral, axillary and rectal temperatures and single
(predictive) oral and axillary temperatures.

2. Description of the Devices
The Smartsigns® LITE Series measures systolic and diastolic blood
pressures and pulse rates in subjects three years of age or older.
The SL510 has an additional temperature measuring capability in subjects
three years of age or older.
The Smartsigns® LITE Series is intended for use in physicians' offices,
nursing units, and patient care areas of hospitals.

Three separate models are available:

Automatic Mode: Review previous individual readings
and the average. Suspends Automatic Mode, press
START to resume.
Manual Mode: Review up to 99 previous readings.

Sets SP for single pressure (Manual Mode), or Cycle
time, (1,2,3,4 or 5 mins), in Automatic Mode.
CYCLE
Selects mode of temperature operation: single/oral,
single/axillary, continuous/oral, continuous/axillary.
MODE button also clears the temperature display.
Initiates both single and continuous temperature
measurements.
Pressing temperature START also stops both single and
continuous temperature measurements in progress.

3.3 Attaching the Temperature Probe to the
SL510
3.4 Connecting the cuff
1. Push the hose onto the connector on the
front of the unit (Fig.1).
2. Connect the
hose to the cuff
via the threaded
connector.
Ensure that
there are no
kinks or compression restrictions in the
tube (Fig.2).
3. Wrap the cuff around the patients arm.
4. Check that the white index marker falls
within the white range markers.
If not, use a larger or smaller cuff size.
Ensure that the blood pressure cuff is at heart
level during blood pressure measurement as
the hydrostatic effect at different levels will
result in measurement inaccuracy.
Check the limb concerned to ensure that there
is no likelihood of prolonged impairment of the
patient's circulation.
Change cuff placement site every 4 to 6 hours.
Avoid cuff placement which could interfere with
infusions.
CAUTION: In the event that you are concerned for the safety of the
patient, disconnecting the connectors on the cuff or tubing
will result in rapid deflation of the cuff.

NOTE
If the unit is left idle for 10 minutes, all displays will go blank. Press any
button to re-enter the normal operating mode.
The Smartsigns® LITE Series will emit a short single beep each time the
power supply is plugged into the device, and a short double beep each time
the power supply is removed from the device.
It is recommended to operate with the power supply plugged into the AC
mains supply to maintain battery charge and prolong battery life.
If the low-battery indicator appears ( ), the device needs charging. The
unit will also emit a short double beep every 30 seconds in low battery
condition. A maximum of 20 NIBP or 20 single temperature measurements
may be taken before the unit prevents further operation.

The Smartsigns® LITE Series has two blood pressure operational modes:

Ensure that the tubing and cuff connectors are tight.
It is important for the patient to remain still during inflation and
measurement.
Pressing stops measurement and deflates cuff.
Selecting the appropriate cuff size is important, otherwise blood pressure
readings may be inaccurate.
Huntleigh Healthcare Ltd. provide five cuff sizes.
Child 13 - 18 cm Small adult 18 - 26 cm
Regular adult 26 - 34 cm Large adult 32 - 43 cm
Extra-Large adult 41 - 52 cm

Reviewing previous readings
1. - displays previous readings, (the number in the READING display
will correspond to the displayed measurement).
2. - clear stored readings before starting a new set of measurements.
Pressing between measurements will suspend Automatic Mode. Press
to resume.
If an error code is displayed for any reading, that reading is not included in
the average.
If 1 or 2 minute cycle times are selected and the patient's blood pressure is
high then any individual measurement may take longer than 1 or 2 minutes.
The Smartsigns® LITE Series will not begin a new measurement until the
cuff is fully deflated from the previous measurement.

3. The probe cover should be securely placed on
the probe, If not, discard the probe cover and repeat.
NOTE: The probe covers are single-use only. Use a new probe cover for
each temperature measurement and discard after use.
1. Insert the temperature probe fully into the probe
cover where indicated on the packaging.
2. Hold the probe and probe
cover and twist out of the
outer packaging.
The SL510 model has two temperature measurement modes: Single and
Continuous.

5.4 Continuous Mode of Temperature Measurement
1. Follow steps 1 - 4 as above but select continuous oral or
continuous axillary . Continuous mode is automatically selected for
rectal measurements.
5. Separate the buttocks and gently insert the rectal temperature probe a
maximum of 1.5 cm,
(less than 1.5cm for children) , inside the rectal
sphincter. Tilt the temperature probe until the tip is touching tissue.
9. Dispose of probe cover as above.
6. The temperature will be displayed continuously..
7. The probe will warm up to body temperature in approximately 3 to 4 minutes.

WARNING: Incorrectly inserting the temperature probe can perforate
