1. Quality, Reliability & Safety
Before using this equipment, please study this manual
carefully and familiarise yourself with the controls, display
features and operating techniques. Ensure each user fully
understands the safety and operation of the unit, as mis-use
may cause damage to the unit or injury to the user or the
patient.
This equipment has been manufactured using quality
components and designed to operate safely and reliably.
If the integrity of the protective earth conductor is in doubt, the
equipment should be operated from its internal electrical power
source.
All modifications and repairs to the equipment must carried out
by qualified service engineers, agents or hospital technicians
authorised by Huntleigh Healthcare.
CE MARKING
This equipment carries a CE mark but this is only fully valid if it is used
in conjunction with cables and other accessories approved by Huntleigh
Healthcare Ltd.
1.1 Cautions
Note The following are descriptions of general hazards and
unsafe practices that could result in death, severe injury

appearing in this section are found throughout the manual.

Safety Risk
Do not substitute accessories. Use only recommended
accessories listed in this manual. Substitution may cause
the instrument to work improperly. The correct accessories
are shielded to prevent conductive parts of the electrodes
contacting other conductive parts or earth. No action
should be taken which permits this to happen.
Warning All interconnecting equipment must meet their relevant
safety standards i.e. EN60959 in the case of computers,
network terminals and display monitors. When several
pieces of equipment of various origins are interconnected,
the summation of leakage currents may constitute a
hazard.
Warning The accuracy of the readings obtained from this equipment
may be affected by the presence of a pacemaker or by
cardiac arrhythmia
Warning If it is thought that interference is occurring from or with
other equipment, such as that used for Diathermy, then
either shut-off, or move, the offending devices, increase the
separation or reduce lead lengths.
Warning If the integrity of the protective earth conductor arrangement
is in doubt, the equipment should be operated from its
internal electrical power source only while connected to a
patient. Use the mains supply only to re-charge the battery
while not connected to a patient
Caution Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC). This product
complies with the requirements of applicable EMC
Standards. The use of accessories not specified by the
manufacturer may result in increased emissions by,
or decreased immunity of, the equipment, affecting its
performance.
Quality, Reliability & Safety
This product contains sensitive electronics; strong radio
frequency fields could interfere with the operation of the
system. In the event where this occurs, we suggest that the
source of interference is identified and the equipment is used
‘out of range’.
Do not use this equipment in the presence of flammable gases.
Do not immerse any part of the equipment in any liquids.
Do not use solvent cleaner on any part of the system.
Do not use high temperature sterilising or E-beam / gamma sterilisation
processes.
If any doubt exists concerning the use of this equipment, an
alternative method should be used.

2. Introduction
The SC750 is a compact multi-parameter patient monitor which provides the
following monitoring capabilities:
• ECG (3 or 5 lead) • Respiration
• SpO2• Non Invasive Blood Pressure
• Temperature
A factory fit chart recorder can also be supplied.
The monitor is of fully moulded construction in a tough flame retardant ABS
material.
The TFT liquid crystal display (LCD), with touch screen, provides an easy to
operate monitor with clear presentation of patient information.
All controls, with the exception of the front panel ON/OFF switch, are software-
controlled.
The SC750 series weighs 3.3kg with battery, and may be powered from an
AC mains supply, from the integral rechargeable battery pack.
An optional mounting plate can be fitted to the underside of the SC750 to
enable the monitor to be mounted on a wall bracket or stand.

2.4 Patient Inputs
All patient inputs are fully isolated from electrical earth. ECG and respiration
rates are obtained via conventional electrodes and either a 3 or 5 way patient
cable. Temperature measurements are obtained via thermistor based
temperature sensors. Non-invasive Blood Pressure readings are gained
using a plethysmographic cuff technique with cuff inflation provided by an
internal pump. A pulse oximetry sensor is used to obtain SpO2 and pulse rate
readings.

2.5 Display
The SC750 monitor display comprises a waveform area with numerical
readout boxes on the right-hand side and a set of touch buttons below. The
waveform area has an ECG trace at the top of the screen with a second ECG
trace line that can be enabled to cascade the top trace (with a 3 lead ECG
cable) or to show Lead II. The SpO2 trace comes next with the Respiration
trace below that. NIBP and temperature readings are at the bottom of the
display. The readouts, as shown in Fig.4, are clearly identified by caption and
colour.

The readouts are displayed as follows:
Lifesign Trace Description
ECG This is the top trace on the SC750 and may be displayed
as one or two traces. The beats per minute are presented
as a numeric display on the right of the top trace line.
Also displayed is selected lead, display gain and alarm
status.
SpO2 With the SpO2 probe plugged into the SC750 the SpO2
waveform is displayed as the next trace on the screen.
Summary digital values of SpO2% and pulse-oximeter
determined heart rate are continuously updated in
the patient summary on the right side of the screen.
Additionally, a horizontal bar graph above the digital
display indicates signal strength.
Respiration Respiration rate is determined by a thoracic impedance
method via the ECG electrodes. This cardiorespirogram
appears as a trace below SpO2.
Blood Pressure
NIBP
NIBP measurement uses the oscillometric method via a
cuff which is inflated and deflated through the monitor.
A bar graph is used to show the cuff pressure during
measurement and the blood pressure results are shown
numerically.
Temperature With two temperature sensors plugged into the SC750
both temperatures (T1 and T2) and the difference between
them (∆T) are continuously updated and displayed. If only
one sensor is connected the single temperature is shown.

The alarms in Table 2 below can be adjusted from within the appropriate
set-up screen. Individual alarms or all alarms may be muted for the preset
suspend period. When all alarms are muted the ‘INFO’ box displays the
message ‘SUSPEND’ and the remaining suspend time is indicated by a bar
graph or ‘∞’ if continuous muting is selected.The readouts are displayed as

Patient Information
Patient information, Name, Bed and Ref. No., which is displayed in the ‘INFO’
box, can be changed from the patient set-up screen.
All information, including alarm settings, are automatically retained when the
monitor is switched off. At switch on, patient information is displayed with
the options CHANGE DETAILS or CONTINUE. Selecting CHANGE DETAILS
produces a screen where the patient’s name and other information can be
altered (see section 4.1.3.2). If NEW PATIENT is selected from the PATIENT
screen all existing stored patient information is erased and the alarm limits are
set to the default values. Pressing the CONTINUE button will retain, not only
the patient information, but also current alarm settings.
Other Features
Lead select Leads I, II or III of the ECG 3 way patient cable may be
selected. With the five lead ECG option display of aVR,
aVL, aVF and V can also be chosen.
QRS indication A heart symbol is displayed on screen as part of the ECG
display and, if enabled, an audible tone is emitted.
Filtering A line frequency notch filter can be selected for the ECG
trace as well as Monitor or Diagnostic mode filtering.
Gain selection For ECG there are 4 gain settings and for Respiration 2
gain settings.
Trace freeze May be selected to examine the traces.
Digital displays Heart Rate, Temperatures, Respiration rate, SpO2, and
Blood Pressure are all displayed in digital form, as well as
their alarm limits
2.6 Touch Screen
Light finger pressure is all that is needed to operate any of the touch screen
buttons. Touching the numeric display boxes to the right of the traces will
bring up the appropriate SETUP screen. Touching an Alarm section to the
right of the numeric display box will disable/enable the specific alarm for the
SUSPEND period. It is possible to turn off the touch screen facility by pressing
the padlock icon at the bottom right hand corner of the screen. To re-activate
the touch screen press the padlock icon once more. If an alarm is triggered
the touch screen will be re-enabled automatically.

3. Preliminary Checks
Preliminary Checks
Delivery Inspection
Huntleigh Healthcare Ltd takes every precaution to ensure that their goods
reach you in perfect condition. However, accidental damage can occur in
transit and storage. For this reason we recommend that a thorough visual
inspection is made immediately the unit is received. Should any damage be
evident or any parts missing, ensure that Huntleigh Healthcare Ltd is informed
at once.
Storage
Should the unit not be required for immediate use, it should be re-sealed in
its original packing, after carrying out the initial delivery inspection, and stored
under covered conditions at a temperature between -10 and 50 °C, and
relative humidity of 0-99% (non-condensing)
3.1 Installation
SC750 monitors are supplied with a plug-in mains lead, fitted with a 3 pin
mains plug. The cores use the European colour code :
BROWN LIVE
BLUE NEUTRAL
GREEN/YELLOW EARTH
If it becomes necessary to fit a new mains plug take care that the wires have
correct lengths, so that in the event of extreme strain, the earth wire will be the
last to break. Make sure that the cable clamp secures the outer sheathing so
that there is no direct strain on any individual wires at the terminals.
Where the plug is fused, a 5A fuse should be fitted.
3.2 Line Power Operation
No alterations are required to change between 100 and 240 Volt operation.
Connect the equipotential earth terminal to a potential equalisation conductor
where provided or mandatory. Connect the power cable to the line power
socket. If a good, reliable earth is not available operate the SC750 from its
internal battery pack while monitoring a patient.
3.3 Battery Operation and Low Battery Alarm
The battery, when fully charged will provide approximately 3 hours continuous
use. An on-screen battery indicator shows the state of charge at all times.
Battery charging takes place whenever the monitor is connected to the mains.
When the battery is discharging two flashing arrows >> point away from the
battery symbol. When the battery is charging two flashing arrows << point
towards the symbol. If the battery charge drops below 16% the indicator will
change colour from yellow to red and an alarm will sound.
3.4 Fuses
Fuses are fitted in both the power live and neutral lines. Correctly rated fuses
must be fitted as below:-

Note: To isolate the SC750 from the mains or line supply, disconnect the
power cable from the mains inlet at the rear of the unit.

4.6 System Connectors
The SC750 may be connected to the Smartsigns® Central View Central
Station via the LAN socket situated on the rear panel. Contact Huntleigh
Healthcare for details prior to attempting this connection.
A set of normally open contacts across pins 2 & 6 on the keyboard socket can
be utilised for a “Nurse Call” or other facility in the event of an alarm.
