General Safety Precautions
These operating instructions contain the key instructions for properly and safely
operating the OLF.
Obligations and Liability
The basic prerequisite for the safe and proper handling and operation of the OLF is
knowledge of the safety instructions and warnings.
These operating instructions in general, and the safety precautions in particular, are to
be adhered by all those who work with the OLF.
Adherence is to be maintained to pertinent accident prevention regulations applicable
at the site where the product is used.
The safety precautions listed herein are limited solely to using the OLF.
The OLF has been designed and constructed in accordance with the current state of
the art and recognized safety regulations. Nevertheless, hazards may be posed to the
life and limb of the individual using the product or to third parties. Risk of damage may
be posed to the product or other equipment and property.
Use the OLF only when in a safe, perfect condition.
Immediately remedy any malfunctions that might impair safety.
Our General Terms and Conditions (AGB) apply. They are provided to the owner no
later than upon conclusion of purchase of the unit. Any and all warranty and liability
claims for personal injuries and damage to property shall be excluded in the event they
are attributable to one or more of the following causes:
• Improper assembly, installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance of the
OLF.
• Modifications to the OLF made by the user or purchaser.
• Improperly performed repair work.

The following designations and symbols are used in these operating instructions to
designate hazards, etc.:
DANGER
DANGER denotes situations
which can lead to death if safety
precautions are not observed.
WARNING

Proper/Designated Use
The OffLine Filter OLF is a stationary secondary flow filter and is used for the purpose
of separating out oil ageing byproducts, water and solid particles from hydraulic and
lubrication fluids.
Proper or designated use of the product extends to the following:
• Filtering hydraulic and lubrication fluids off-line
• Maintaining adherence to all the instructions contained herein.
• Performing requisite inspection and maintenance work.
Improper Use
Any use deviating from the proper/designated use described above is prohibited.
Improper use may result in hazard to life and limb.

Informal Safety Precautions
In addition to the manual, the general and local regulations concerning accident
prevention and protection of the environment should be available and observed.
Make sure to keep the safety and hazard symbols and warnings on the filter in a legible
condition and replace these if necessary.
Replace any loose connections or damaged cables immediately.
Training and Instruction of Personnel
The OLF may only be operated by properly trained and instructed personnel. The
areas of responsibility of your staff must be established in a clear-cut manner. Staff
undergoing training may not use the OLF unless supervised by an experienced staff
member.

Safety Measures to Be Followed during Normal Operation
The unit is to be checked once a day for visible external damage, for the proper
functioning of the safety devices and for leaks.

Structural modifications
Do not make any modifications (design modifications, extensions) to the OLF without
the prior consent of the manufacturer.
Immediately replace any unit components which are not in perfect condition.
Use only original spare parts.
Storing the OLF
Storage may not be done unless the OLF has been completely drained, cleaned and
flushed and the filter element removed.
Storage temperature: -30°C to +100°C
Humidity: up to 80% relative humidity
Air: Clean, salt-free air, not near oxidizing substances (rust
film).
Storage duration: Indefinitely.
After a storage > 2 years all seals are to be exchanged
before the introduction.

Checking the Scope of Delivery
Upon receiving the OLF check it for any damage in transit. Do not put the OLF into
operation unless it is in perfect condition. Report any damage to the forwarding agent
immediately.
The fluid connections are all sealed with plastic plugs to prevent the intrusion of
contaminants into the filter during transport.

OLF Features
The OffLine Filter OLF is a stationary secondary flow filter and is used for the purpose
of separating out oil ageing byproducts, water and solid particles from hydraulic and
lubrication fluids.
Thanks to its compact construction, the OLF is also ideally suited for use in even the
smallest of installation spaces.
The Windmicron filter elements typically used exhibit the following properties:
• Optimum adsorption of oil ageing byproducts to the filter material without rapid
"clogging"
• Filter rating 3 µm
• Very high dirt holding capacity through pronounced depth structure
Its area of application is gear oil filtration, in particular for wind turbine gearboxes.
The advantages of the OffLine Filters OLF are:
• Longer lifetime for the main flow filter
• Improvement of component lifetime
• Higher machine availability
• Longer oil change intervals
• Less space requirement due to compact construction
• Very easy maintenance
• High dirt holding capacity of the elements
• Environmentally friendly element disposal through incinerability
Restrictions pertaining to use
CAUTION
Impermissible operating media
The filter will be damaged.
►Only use the filter with mineral oils or mineral oil-based raffinates.

Installing the OLF
During installation, make sure that the direction of flow through the filter is correct. The
connections are marked with IN / OUT. Only install the filter when it is in an upright
position.
The OLF is designed for installation in a pipeline or hose line with a G1/2" threaded
connector (cylindrical pipe thread in accordance with DIN ISO 228; part 1).
Make sure that no stresses or vibrations are transmitted to the filter housing. Use
hoses or expansion joints if necessary.
Before installation, coat the connector threads with a lubricant containing
slip additives.
This prevents damage to the connector threads during installation.
Lubricant containing a slip additive (MoS2) = HYDAC p/no.: 3066287
Make sure there is sufficient room (A) to
change the filer element.
Perform installation work in the
immediate vicinity of the filter housing
shut-off valves (B). This facilitates
changing the filter element.

Notes on the hydraulic connection
Use as few threaded connections as possible in order to keep the pressure loss as low
as possible.
The pressure loss in a hydraulic line depends upon:
• Flow rate
• kinematic viscosity
• pipe dimensions
• fluid density
The pressure differential can be estimated for hydraulic oils as follows:
Δp ≈6.8 * L / d4* Q * V * D
Δp = Pressure differential in [bar]
L= pipe length [m]
d= internal pipe diameter [mm]
Q= Flow rate [l/min]
V = kinematics viscosity [mm²/s]
D = Density [kg/dm³] Mineral oil based hydraulic fluid has a density of
≈0.9 kg/dm³.
This applies to straight pipe runs and hydraulic oils. Additional threaded connections
and pipe bends increase the pressure differential.
Keep the height difference between the pump and the oil level in the tank as minimal
as possible.
Hoses must be suitable for suction pressures of at least -0.5 bar.
Constrictions in the connections and lines should be avoided. This could compromise
suction output and cause cavitation.
Take note that the nominal size of the connected hoses/piping must be at least as large
as the inlet port sizes.
Make sure that no tension or vibrations are carried over to the pump or filter housing
when the pipes are connected. Use hoses or expansion joints if necessary.

Starting up the OLF/OLF in operation
The OLF is supplied ex works without any filter elements. Prior to commissioning, the
filter elements must be inserted in the housing.
See the chapter on "Changing the filter element"
To prevent pressure surges, the shut-off valves on the inlet and outlet side are to be
opened slowly for startup and filling after the filter element has been replaced.
During operation, pay particular attention to operating conditions such as operating
temperature, operating pressure and the permissible differential pressure on the filter
element.

Performing Maintenance
The OLS is supplied as standard without a differential pressure gauge.
We have several clogging indicators with optical or electrical signal transmitters in our
accessories list.
The clogging indicator displays how high the differential pressure over the filter element
is.
If the clogging indicator is red, the differential pressure is too high, indicating that the
filter element is used up and must be changed. The color green indicates that the the
differential pressure over the filter element is > 2 bar and filtration will take place.
