Performance Accelerator Key for System x®. The
ServeRAID M5000 Series Performance Accelerator Key
enables support for the following features:
– RAID 6 configurations
– RAID 60 configurations
– CacheCade™
– FastPath™
– Recovery™
– SafeStore™ Encryption Services
on the following ServeRAID SAS/SATA controllers:
– ServeRAID M5014 SAS/SATA controller
– ServeRAID M5015 SAS/SATA controller
– ServeRAID M5025 SAS/SATA controller
Figure 1 shows the ServeRAID M5000 Series Performance
Accelerator Key. The ServeRAID M5000 Series
Performance Accelerator Key mounts directly to the
controller using the J1 2-pin connector.

INSTALLING THE SERVERAID M5000
SERIES PERFORMANCE ACCELERATOR
KEY ON THE SERVERAID M5014/M5015
SAS/SATA CONTROLLERS
Perform the following steps to install the ServeRAID M5000
Series Performance Accelerator Key directly to the
ServeRAID M5014/M5015 SAS/SATA controllers.
1. Turn off the computer and unplug the power cords from
the rear of the power supply.
2. Remove the cover from the computer according to the
instructions in the system user’s manual so you can
access the controller.
Note:When handling static sensitive devices, take
precautions to avoid damage from static
electricity.
3. Ground yourself before you touch the controller or the
key.
4. Remove the key from the package.
5. Hold the key so that the J1 connector is facing upward
and the connector lines up with the JT8 header on the
controller, as shown in Figure 2.
6. Insert the J1 connector into the JT8 header so that the
two connectors are firmly joined.

7. Reinstall the computer cover and reconnect the power
cords.
Attention: It is important to back up any data before you
make a change in system configuration. Failure
to do this could result in data loss.

8. Turn on the power to the computer, making sure that
the power is turned on to the SAS devices and the
SATA II devices before or at the same time as the host
computer. If the power is turned on to the computer
before it is turned on to the devices, the computer might
not recognize the devices.

KEY ON THE SERVERAID M5025 SAS/
SATA CONTROLLER
Perform the following steps to install the ServeRAID M5000
Series Performance Accelerator Key directly to the
ServeRAID M5025 SAS/SATA controller.
Step 1 Turn off the computer and unplug the power
cords from the rear of the power supply.
Step 2 Remove the cover from the computer according
to the instructions in the system user’s manual so
you can access the controller.
Step 3 Ground yourself before you touch the controller
or the key.
Step 4 Remove the key from the package.
Step 5 Hold the key so that the J1 connector is up and
the connector lines up with the J1A2 shielded
header on the controller, as shown in Figure 3.
Step 6 Insert the J1 connector into the J1A2 header so
that the two connectors are firmly joined.

Step 7 Reinstall the computer cover and reconnect the
power cords.
Step 8 Turn on the power to the computer, making sure
