User Guide (English)
Introduction
Thank you for purchasing the Sport XL. At ION, your entertainment is as important to us as it is
to you. That’s why we design our products with one thing in mind—to make your life more fun
and more convenient.
Note: Before you first use the product, please fully charge the battery. Your unit was
purposely shipped with a reduced battery charge to ensure safe transit.
Use the included power cable to connect the unit to a power outlet and let it charge for up to
10 hours. This helps ensure the longest life for your battery.

Rechargeable Batteries
Rechargeable lead-acid batteries are the same type used in automobiles. As with your car
battery, how you use this battery has a significant impact on its lifespan. With proper use and
treatment, a lead-acid battery can last for years. Here are some recommendations for getting
the longest life from the internal battery.
General Usage Fully charge the battery before using it.
Charge the battery completely after each use.
Storage For best product longevity, do not store at exceedingly hot (greater than
90°F/32°C) or exceedingly cold (less than 32°F/0°C) temperatures.
It is acceptable to leave your sound system plugged in. This will not
overcharge the battery.
If you leave the battery level low and do not charge it for 3 months, it may
permanently lose capacity.
Repair If the battery fails to charge, check your fuse near the power cable input. If
your fuse is intact and it still will not charge, contact ION Audio at
ionaudio.com.
Disposal Bring the unit to a recycling center or dispose of in accordance with local
ordinances.

Outdoor Use and Care
Though Sport XL is water-resistant and able to tolerate splashing water, please review the tips
below to get the best performance from Sport XL:
•Sport XL must only be used outdoors with power outlets or extension cords that are rated
for outdoor use.
•Bring Sport XL indoors during extreme weather.
•Please do not place Sport XL in standing water.
•Please do not connect the power adapter to Sport XL in a wet environment. Make sure the
power input, power adapter, and power outlet are all completely dry before making any
connections.
•WARNING: Keep any non-water-resistant devices (phones, music players, etc.) in a dry
place where they will not be affected by water and cause a risk of electric shock.
Quick Setup
1. Make sure all items listed in the Box Contents at the beginning of this guide are included
in the box.
2. Read the Safety & Warranty Manual before using the product.
3. Make sure that you have completely charged the battery prior to first use for maximum
battery life.
4. Power on Sport XL.
5. Connect your music player with an audio cable or Bluetooth.
6. Adjust the volume on the music player and on Sport XL as needed.
7. Turn off Sport XL when not in use.

A. Power Button: Press and hold this button to turn Sport XL on or off.
Fully charge the battery before using. Please note that while Sport XL is connected to a
power source, it does not need to be powered on to charge the battery. When the power
is on, the display will show the power indicator.
B. Bluetooth Button: Press the Bluetooth button to pair to a Bluetooth device or
disconnect a paired Bluetooth device. See Operation > Pairing with a Bluetooth
Device to learn more.
C. Link: Press and hold this button to start stereo linking to another compatible speaker.
Then, repeat this process on another compatible speaker (see ionaudio.com for a list
of compatible speakers). See Operation >Linking Two Speakers below for more
information.
D. Radio Selector: Press this button set the radio to FM1, FM2 or AM, or turn the radio
off.
E. Presets: In Radio Mode, press these buttons to select a previously saved preset
station. To save the current station as a preset, press and hold these buttons.
F. Bass Boost: Press this button to enhance the overall bass frequency response.
G. Tune/Track Buttons: Press these buttons to tune in a radio station or go to the
previous/ next track on a Bluetooth connected device.
To “seek” (jump to the next available radio station) in radio mode, hold either button
down for a few seconds.
H. Play/Pause: Press to play or pause a track from a connected Bluetooth device.

I. Display: This screen shows information relevant to Sport XL’s current operation:
•Charging Indicator:
oWhen the power cable is connected, movement of the battery
segments shows the battery is charging. When fully charged, all
battery segments will be lit without blinking.
oWhen the power cable is disconnected, the battery segment shows the
level of the battery.
oWhen the battery level is low, the bottom battery segment will blink.
oIf a front panel button is not pressed within 60 seconds, the battery level
indicator will turn off (to save energy). The battery level indicator will
reappear when any button is pressed. Also, when the battery gets to the
lowest battery icon segment, the battery level indicator will turn back on.
•Power Icon (): The power icon will be lit when Sport XL is powered on. The
power icon will not be lit when Sport XL is powered off.
•Lightning Bolt Icon (): The lightning bolt icon will be lit when the power cable is
connected to wall power.
•Bluetooth Icon ():The Bluetooth icon will be lit when a device is paired to Sport XL.
•Bass Boost Icon: The Bass Boost icon will be on when the Bass Boost function is
activated. The icon will be off when the function is deactivated.
•AM/FM Icons: When the Radio is On, this shows whether it is in AM, FM1 or FM2
mode.
•Link Icon: The Link icon will be on when linked to another speaker. The Link icon will
be off when a single speaker is used. See Operation > Linking Two Speakers below
for more information.
•Mic/Vol: These icons indicate the current function of the Volume Control.
•Radio Station: This shows the current radio station that is selected.
J. Volume Control: Press this control knob to toggle between controlling the music
volume and controlling the microphone volume. Turn the control knob to increase or
decrease the volume.
K. Auxiliary Input: This stereo 1/8” (3.5 mm) input can be used to connect a CD player,
MP3 player, or other audio source.
L. Microphone Input: Connect a microphone to this 1/4” (6.35 mm) mono input.
M. USB Charging Ports: Connect your device’s charge cable here to charge it. USB
charging only functions when the unit’s power is turned on.

Operation
App Control
IMPORTANT: To ensure the best possible experience with the app, use the most current
Android OS or iOS on your device.
Follow these steps to download the free app on your device:
1. Open the Apple App Store or Google Play on your device. Then, search for the ION
Sound XPTM app.
2. Follow the on-screen instructions to download and install the app. Once downloaded,
the ION Sound XPTM app will appear on your device's home screen.
3. Connect your device to Sport XL via Bluetooth. See the Pairing with a Bluetooth Device
to learn how to do this.
4. Open the ION Sound XPTM app. If prompted, allow the app to access your device's
Bluetooth and Location Services.
5. Tap to select Add A Product on the screen. The app will scan and find Sport XL.
If you are having issues connecting, tap Help with setting up? for additional tips.
6. Select the Sport XL icon to go to the next screen, where you can use the app to control
various functions of the speaker such as:
•Radio: Play the radio, change stations, and edit presets.
•EQ: Adjust the speaker's equalization, and enable or disable Bass Boost.
•Volume: Adjust the speaker volume and microphone volume.
•Voice Prompts: Enable or disable the voice prompts.
•Link: View instructions for linking Sport XL to another compatible speaker.
•Support: Visit ionaudio.com, contact Technical Support, and view Warranty
information and Frequently Asked Questions.

Pairing with a Bluetooth Device
1. Make sure the speaker is within range of your Bluetooth device (no more than 100 ft. /
30.5 m away).
2. Press the Bluetooth button on the speaker.
3. Navigate to your Bluetooth device’s setup screen. Then find and select Sport XL. If your
Bluetooth device prompts for a pairing code, enter 0000.
Note: If you have previously connected to your Bluetooth device, Sport XL will reconnect
automatically.
Tip: Double-press the Bluetooth button to enable or disable the Bluetooth pairing voice
prompts.
To disconnect a paired Bluetooth device, press the Bluetooth button.
Pairing a Bluetooth Device Using NFC
NFC (near-field communication) allows data exchange from devices, such as pairing, by
gently bumping them together. Check in your device’s manual to see if this feature is
supported.
To use NFC to pair with Sport XL:
1. In order to use NFC, your device must be turned on and unlocked.
2. Enter your device’s Settings menu and check that NFC is turned On (one-time step).
3. Power on Sport XL.
4. Touch and briefly hold your device to the NFC logo located on Sport XL’s top panel.
5. Follow the pairing instructions that appear on your phone. If a passcode is required,
enter “0000”.
To unpair, gently bump your device against the NFC logo.

Linking Two Speakers (stereo)
1. Press and hold this button to start stereo linking to another compatible speaker. Then,
repeat this process on the other speaker. See ionaudio.com for a list of compatible
speakers.
2. Once the link has been established, LINK should appear on the Display. Select which
unit will be the primary speaker by pressing its Bluetooth button. Use this speaker for
pairing with a Bluetooth device or selecting a radio station. The primary speaker will play
left channel audio, and the secondary speaker will play right channel audio.
To disconnect the link between the two speakers, double-press the Link button.
Using the Radio
Selecting a radio station:
1. Press the Radio button to select FM1, FM2 or AM.
2. Press either of the Tune/Track buttons to select a radio station.
To “seek” (jump to the next available station), hold either button down for a few seconds
until it starts to seek a station.
Note: Pause playback from or disable Bluetooth entirely before using the radio to prevent both
audio signals from being active at the same time.
Saving a radio station as a preset:
1. Press the Radio button to select FM1, FM2 or AM.
2. Press either of the Tune/Track buttons to select a radio station.
3. Press and hold a Preset button to assign the current station to that preset number. The
display will show “SAV” to show the station has been saved.
Recalling a saved radio station preset:
1. Press the Radio button to select FM1, FM2 or AM.
2. Press a Preset button to select a previously saved preset station.
To turn off the radio, press the Radio button until it is set to Off.

Troubleshooting
If the unit is not charging: Make sure the power cable is properly connected to the power
input and the power outlet.
If the sound is distorted: Try lowering the volume control of your sound source, musical
instrument, or microphone. Also, try to reduce the overall volume of Sport XL using the
Volume knob.
If there is too much bass: Try adjusting the tone or EQ control on your sound source to lower
the bass level. This will allow you to play the music louder before clipping (distortion) occurs.
If there is poor AM reception: When you have a Bluetooth device that is connected,
disconnect your Bluetooth device in order to listen to AM radio. To adjust AM reception, move
the entire unit.
If there is a high-pitched whistling noise when using microphones: This is probably
feedback. Point the microphone away from the speaker.
If you can’t hear the microphone over the music volume: Turn down the music volume
from your source.
If you can’t play music from a flash drive: The USB port is only for charging USB devices.
If you cannot connect your audio device to Sport XL via Bluetooth:
•Have your audio device (e.g., smartphone or tablet) and Sport XL as close together as
possible while trying to connect. Make sure both the audio device and Sport XL are
unobstructed by walls, furniture, etc.
•Reset the Bluetooth connection on Sport XL to disconnect Sport XL from any other audio
device and restart the search process. If this does not work right away, power off Sport
XL and then power it back on. See Pairing a Bluetooth Device for more information.
•Reset the Bluetooth connection on your audio device by turning Bluetooth off and back
on. You can find this under the Bluetooth menu in the Settings for your phone or other
audio device.
If this does not work, and you have connected to Sport XL before, find Sport XL in the list
of available or previously connected devices in your audio device's Bluetooth menu, tap
the "gear" or “i” icon located next to it and then select Unpair or Forget. Turn Sport XL
off and back on and try pairing again once it reappears in your available devices list.
Note: If Sport XL has been paired to another audio device recently that is still within
range, you may need to repeat this process with that audio device to fully disconnect.
If you experience audio dropouts while playing music from a Bluetooth device, this may
be happening because your unit is trying to link to another speaker. This can occur if you
power off a speaker that was linked to your unit or if you have just turned on your unit and it is
in Stereo-Link mode. To stop the audio dropouts, exit Stereo-Link mode by double-pressing
the Link button. Alternatively, you can wait for your unit to link to another Sport XL speaker if
there is one within range.
If you would like to stop your speaker from automatically linking when you power it on,
make sure you double-press the Link button to exit Stereo-Link mode before you power it off.

Uso y cuidado a la intemperie

I. Pantalla: Esta área muestra información relevante para las funciones de Sport XL.
•Indicador de carga:
oCon el indicador de carga de la batería, cuando el cable de alimentación está
conectado, el movimiento de los segmentos de la batería muestra que se está
cargando. Una vez completamente cargada, todos los segmentos de la batería
estarán encendidos sin parpadear.
oCuando se desconecta el cable de corriente, el segmento de la batería muestra

batería.

•Icono de encendido ( ): El icono de encendido se encenderá cuando el Sport XL se
encienda. Este icono de encendido no se encenderá cuando Sport XL está apagado.
•Icono del relámpago ( ): El icono del relámpago se encenderá cuando el cable de
corriente esté conectado a una toma de corriente de pared.
•Icono de Bluetooth ( ):El icono de Bluetooth se enciende con luz azul continua cuando
hay un dispositivo apareado al Sport XL.
•Icono de Bass Boost: El icono de Bass Boost se iluminara cuando la función esté
activada. El icono estará apagado cuando la función esté desactivada.

Funcionamiento
Control de aplicación
IMPORTANTE: Para asegurarse la mejor experiencia posible con la aplicación, utilice el
Android OS o IOS más actualizado en su dispositivo.
Siga los pasos indicados a continuación para descargar la aplicación a su dispositivo:
1. En su dispositivo, vaya a la tienda de aplicaciones respectiva de Apple o Google Play.
Luego busque la aplicación gratuita ION Sound XPTM.
2. Siga las instrucciones que aparecen en la pantalla para descargar e instalar la aplicación.

Cómo aparear un dispositivo de audio Bluetooth
1. Asegúrese de que el altavoz se encuentre dentro del alcance de su dispositivo Bluetooth
(no más de 100 pies / 30,5 m de distancia).
2. Pulse el botón Bluetooth del altavoz.
3. Navegue a la pantalla de configuración de su dispositivo Bluetooth. Luego busque y

Nota: No se conecte con Sport XL_BLE; está reservado exclusivamente para conectar la

Cómo usar NFC para aparearse con el Sport XL:

3. Encienda el Sport XL.

Apareamiento de dos altavoces Sport XL (estéreo)
1. Mantenga pulsado este botón para iniciar la vinculación estéreo a otro altavoz compatible.

de altavoces compatibles.
2. Una vez establecido el enlace, la palabra LINK aparecerá en la pantalla. Seleccione la
unidad que será el altavoz primario pulsando su botón Bluetooth. Utilice este altavoz para
aparear con una dispositivo Bluetooth o para seleccionar una emisora de radio. El altavoz
primario reproduce el audio del canal izquierdo, y el altavoz secundario reproduce el audio
del canal derecho.
Para desconectar el enlace entre los dos altavoces, pulse dos veces el botón Link
(enlace).

Selección de una estación de radio:
1. Pulse el botón Radio para elegir entre FM1, FM2 o AM.
2. Pulse cualquiera de los botones Tune/Track para seleccionar una estación de radio. Para
"buscar" (saltar a la siguiente emisora disponible), mantenga pulsado cualquier botón
durante unos segundos hasta que empieza a buscar la emisora.
Nota: Detenga la reproducción o deshabilite el Bluetooth por completo antes de utilizar la
radio para evitar que ambas señales de audio estén activas al mismo tiempo.
Cómo guardar una emisora de radio como preset:
1. Pulse el botón Radio para elegir entre AM, FM1 o FM2.
2. Pulse cualquiera de los botones Tune/Track para seleccionar una estación de radio.
3. Pulse y retenga un botón Preset para asignar la emisora que está escuchando a ese
número. Aparecerá “SAV” en la pantalla para mostrar que se guardó la emisora.
Recuperación de un preset de estación de radio guardado.
1. Pulse el botón Radio para elegir entre AM, FM1 o FM2.
2. Para usar una emisora agregada, pulse ligeramente una vez un Preset para ir a la emisora
de radio memorizada.
Para apagar la radio, pulse el botón Radio hasta que quede apagada.

Solución de problemas
Si la unidad no se carga: Asegúrese de que el cable de alimentación esté conectado
correctamente a la entrada de corriente y a la toma de corriente.
Si el sonido está distorsionado: Pruebe bajando el control de volumen de su fuente de sonido o
instrumento musical. Pruebe también reduciendo el volumen general del Sport XL.
Si los graves son demasiado fuertes: Intente ajustando el control de tono o ecualización de su
Sport XL o fuente de sonido para reducir el nivel de graves. De esta forma podrá reproducir la
música con más volumen antes de que se produzca el recorte (distorsión).
Si hay recepción pobre de AM: Cuando tiene un dispositivo Bluetooth que está conectado,
desconecte ese dispositivo Bluetooth a fin de escuchar la radio de AM. Para ajustar la recepción de
AM, mueva la unidad completa.
Si hay un silbido agudo cuando se usa un micrófono: Probablemente sea realimentación. Apunte
el micrófono apartándolo del altavoz.
Si no puede oír el micrófono por arriba del volumen de la música: Disminuya el volumen de la
música en su fuente.
Si no logra reproducir música desde una unidad flash: El puerto USB sea solo para cargar
dispositivos USB.
Si no puede conectar su dispositivo de audio al Sport XL mediante Bluetooth:
•Mantenga su dispositivo de audio (por ej., teléfono inteligente [smartphone] o tableta) y el Sport
XL lo más cerca posible entre sí al realizar la conexión. Asegúrese que tanto el dispositivo de
audio como el Sport XL no estén obstruidos por paredes, muebles, etc.
•Reinicie la conexión Bluetooth del Sport XL para desconectarlo Sport XL de cualquier otro
dispositivo de audio y reinicie el proceso de búsqueda. Si esto no funciona en seguida, apague

Si esto no funciona y ya se había conectado al Sport XL anteriormente, busque Sport XL en la
lista de dispositivos disponibles o previamente conectados en el menú Bluetooth de su
dispositivo de audio, toque el icono de engranaje o "i" ubicado junto a él y luego seleccione
Desaparear u Olvidar. Apague el Sport XL, luego vuelva a encenderlo e intente aparearlo

Nota: Si Sport XL ya ha sido recientemente apareado con otro dispositivo de audio que aún se

Si experimenta cortes en el audio al reproducir música desde un dispositivo Bluetooth, es

unidad y la misma se encuentra en modo Stereo-Link. Para detener los cortes de audio, salga del
modo Stereo-Link pulsando dos veces el botón Link. Como alternativa, puede esperar a que su
unidad se enlace con otro altavoz Sport XL si es que hay uno dentro del alcance.
Si desea impedir que su unidad se enlace automáticamente cuando la enciende, asegúrese de
pulsar dos veces el botón Link para salir del modo Stereo-Link antes de apagarlo.

Batteries rechargeables
Les batteries au plomb rechargeables sont du même type que les batteries utilisées dans les
automobiles. Comme pour la batterie de votre automobile, la manière dont vous l’utilisez a un
impact direct sur sa durée de vie. Cependant, avec une bonne utilisation la batterie au plomb
peut avoir une durée de vie de plusieurs années. Voici quelques recommandations pour
prolonger au maximum la durée de vie de la batterie interne.
Utilisation
générale
Chargez complètement la batterie avant de l’utiliser.
Rechargez la batterie complètement après chaque utilisation.
Entreposage Pour optimiser la longévité du produit, ne l’entreposez pas à des températures
chaudes (supérieur à 32 °C/90 °F) ou extrêmement froides (moins de 0 °C/32 °F).
Il n’y a aucun problème à laisser l’enceinte branchée, cela ne surchargera pas
la batterie.
Si vous laissez le niveau de batterie s’affaiblir sans la recharger pendant 6
mois, elle risquerait de perdre sa capacité de charge de façon permanente.
Réparation Si la batterie ne parvient plus à se recharger, vérifiez le fusible situé près de
l’entrée du câble d’alimentation. Si le fusible est intact et que la batterie ne se
recharge toujours pas, contactez ION Audio à ionaudio.com.
Élimination Apportez l’appareil dans un centre de recyclage ou disposez selon les
règlements de votre municipalité.

Utilisation extérieure et entretien
Bien que le l'enceinte Sport XL soit résistante à l'eau et tolère les éclaboussures, les conseils
ci-dessous qui vous permettront de tirer le maximum de votre Sport XL :
•L'enceinte Sport XL doit être utilisée à l'extérieur uniquement avec une prise secteur ou
un câble prolongateur qui sont conçus pour une utilisation extérieure.
•L'enceinte Sport XL doit être rentrée à l'intérieur lors de conditions météorologiques
extrêmes.
•Veuillez ne pas placer la Sport XL dans l'eau stagnante.
•Veuillez ne pas utiliser l'adaptateur de rechargement avec la Sport XL lorsqu'elle se
trouve dans un environnement humide. Veuillez vous assurer que l'entrée pour
adaptateur de rechargement, l'adaptateur de rechargement et la prise secteur soient tous
complètement secs avant d'effectuer tout raccordement.
•MISE EN GARDE : Gardez tout appareil non étanche (téléphones, lecteurs, etc.) dans un
endroit sec à l'abri des éclaboussures et des risques de décharges électriques.
Démarrage

A. Touche d'alimentation : Cette touche active ou désactive la Sport XL.
Chargez complètement la batterie avant d’utiliser l’appareil. Veuillez noter que lorsque
l'enceinte Sport XL est branchée à une source d'alimentation, la batterie se recharge sans
que l’enceinte ait besoin d'être mise sous tension.
B. Touche Bluetooth : Cette touche permet de jumeler et de déjumeler un appareil
Bluetooth. Voir ci-dessous pour en savoir plus.
C. Link : Appuyez sur ce bouton et maintenez-le enfoncé pour démarrer la liaison stéréo avec
une autre enceinte Sport XL. Ensuite, répétez ce processus sur un autre haut-parleur
compatible (voir ionaudio.com pour une liste des haut-parleurs compatibles). Veuillez
consulter la section Liaison de deux enceintes Sport XL (stéréo) afin d’en savoir plus.
D. Sélecteur de bande radio : Cette touche permet de commuter entre la bande FM1, FM2
et AM et d’éteindre la radio.
E. Preset (préréglages) : En mode radio, maintenir cette touche enfoncée pour sélectionner
une station radio précédemment programmée comme préréglage. Pour enregistrer la
station actuelle en tant que préréglage, maintenez ce bouton enfoncé, utilisez les touches
de syntonisation/pistes pour sélectionner le préréglage dans lequel vous souhaitez
l'enregistrer, puis appuyez à nouveau sur cette touche pour confirmer.
F. Bass Boost : Cette touche permet d'augmenter la réponse en basse fréquence.
G. Touches de syntonisation/pistes : Ces touches permettent de syntoniser une station de
radio ou de passer à la piste précédente/suivante sur un appareil Bluetooth connecté.
Pour balayer la bande (passer à la station radio suivante ayant un signal clair) en mode
radio, maintenez une de ces touches enfoncée quelques secondes, jusqu'à ce qu'il
commence à rechercher la prochaine station disponible.
H. Lancer/interrompre la lecture : Appuyer sur cette touche permet de lancer la lecture ou
d’interrompre la lecture d’une piste sur un appareil Bluetooth connecté.
