Controls & alarms:
Connector 2 x 5-pin Phoenix style (A & B)
Pin 1 T lly – connection to ground indic tes th t the corresponding module is the
‘M in’ p th.
2 Extern l ch ngeover request
3
– connecting to ground will m ke this module ‘M in’.
3 Input Al rm
4
– n open circuit indic tes th t there is no input sign l present, input
sign l does not m tch the set sign l type, AIS detected in STM-1 d t , or power to
the module h s f iled.
4 Power F il
4
– n open circuit indic tes th t power to the module h s f iled.
5 Ground.
NOTE: 2 Outputs 3 (SK10) nd 4 (SK2) not fitted.
3 Corresponding front p nel toggle switches of module must be in the ‘Ch nge Allow’ position.
4 The non- l rm st te is connection to ground vi FET rel y.
Changeover logic:
A ch ngeover to the comp nion module will occur under ny of the following conditions:
Loss of input sign l or input sign l does not m tch the set sign l type;
AIS detection l rm (provided AIS is not dis bled by switch SW3-6);
Loss of power; nd
M nu l ch ngeover request either by the DDA-4320 front p nel switches, extern lly vi
connection to ground on the Ch ngeover Request pin on the ZDA-4320RH re r ssembly, or
vi SNMP.
In ll of the bove c ses switching will occur only if the comp nion module is free of the s me defects.
The m nu l ch ngeover requests (loc l nd remote) require th t the ch ngeover inhibit switch is not ctiv ted on
the module currently cting s the St ndby unit.
Priority logic:
The priority switching in norm l mode follows non reverting logic which dict tes:
In the event of f ilure of the M in DDA-4320, the St ndby DDA-4320 will ssume control of the switched outputs
nd become M in c using the f iled p th DDA-4320 to become St ndby. This implies th t when the f iled p th is
restored it will rem in s St ndby nd not become M in unless either f ilure of M in occurs or m nu l
ch ngeover is requested.
Power on reset:
When power is pplied to the p ir, the module which w s l st oper ting s M in will rem in s M in.
When power is pplied to p ir for the first time it m y be necess ry to request m nu l ch ngeover to force the
desired module to become M in.
Due to our policy of continuing development, these specifications are su ject to change without notice.

SNMP
What Is It?
SNMP st nds for Simple Network M n gement Protocol. It is n pplic tion l yer protocol for m n ging IP
(Internet Protocol) b sed systems. SNMP en bles system dministr tors to m n ge system perform nce, nd to
find nd solve system problems. SNMP runs over UDP (User D t gr m Protocol), which in turn runs over IP.
Three types of SNMP exist: SNMP version 1 (SNMPv1), SNMP version 2 (SNMPv2) nd SNMP version 3 (SNMPv3). It
is not the intention here to discuss the differences between v rious versions, only to bring ttention to the f ct
th t IRT Electronics modules, fitted with SNMP c p bility, use SNMPv1.
An SNMP m n ged network consists of three key components: Network M n gement Systems (NMS), agents, nd
managed devices.
An NMS is the console through which the network dministr tor performs network m n gement functions, such
s monitoring st tus (e.g. l rm st tes) nd remote controlling, of set of m n ged devices. One or more NMSs
must exist on ny m n ged network. Gener lly the NMS is computer running third p rty SNMP control softw re.
There re number of third p rty SNMP softw re pplic tions currently v il ble on the m rket.
An NMS polls, or communic tes with, n agent. An agent is network m n gement softw re module th t resides
in managed device. An agent h s loc l knowledge of m n gement inform tion nd tr nsl tes th t inform tion
into form comp tible with SNMP. The agent, therefore, cts s n interf ce between the NMS nd the m n ged
devices. The NMS sends request mess ge, nd control comm nds for the m n ged devices, to the agent, which
in turn sends response mess ge, cont ining inform tion bout the managed devices, b ck to the NMS.
A managed device cont ins n SNMP agent nd resides on m n ged network. Managed devices collect nd store
m n gement inform tion nd m ke this inform tion v il ble to NMSs using SNMP.
Managed device agent v ri bles re org nised in tree structure known s M n gement Inform tion B se
(MIB). Within the MIB re p r meters pert ining to the managed device. An Object Identifier (OID) number within
the MIB defines the m n ged device type. This is unique number specific to the model of managed device. Other
inform tion rel ting to the device is lso stored, inform tion such s l rm st tes, controll ble settings, etc. The
MIB tree is org nised in such w y th t there will be no two MIB files with conflicting pl cements.
Norm lly n NMS polls n agent for inform tion rel ting to the MIB in m n ged device to be sent b ck to the
NMS. When cert in conditions re met within the MIB, such s m jor l rm conditions, for ex mple, the agent
utom tic lly sends wh t is known s trap to the NMS without ny prompting from the NMS. This llows
utom tic notific tion of predetermined event.

SNMP with IRT Products:
IRT Electronics currently employs SNMPv1 with its SNMP c p ble fr mes. The fr me cts s n agent when fitted
with CDM-xxxx module. This module h s its own design ted slot next to the power supply so s to not ffect the
number of modules th t the fr me will t ke. Communic tion between the NMS, the fr me nd its lo ded modules
re vi this CDM-xxxx module. Note th t the NMS softw re is third p rty nd not supplied by IRT Electronics.
Ethernet connection for SNMP oper tion is vi n RJ45 connector on the re r of the fr me, below the m ins inlet.
Ethernet r te runs t either 10 b seT or 100 b seT.
Fr me p r meters, such s N me, Address nd Loc tion, re set vi n RS232 interf ce, D9 connector on the re r
of the fr me below the m ins inlet. A softw re termin l emul tor, such s Ter Term or HyperTermin l, is used for
setting nd re ding the p r meters of the fr me.
IRT modules th t re SNMP comp tible need plug-in SMU-4000 module with progr m relev nt to the module
th t it is plugged into. Depending on the module, besides the module identific tion, p r meters such s l rm
st tes, inputs nd controls etc. re communic ted to the CDM-xxxx agent vi d t bus on the re r of the fr me.
Thus the CDM-xxxx collects inform tion on wh t is lo ded within the fr me, wh t positions they occupy, nd their
current st tus for communic tion to the NMS when the NMS sends request for inform tion.
In the event of m jor l rm from ny of the SNMP comp tible modules, or power supplies, trap is utom tic lly
sent by the CDM-xxxx agent to the NMS without ny prompting by the NMS. This lerts the oper tor to ny f ult
conditions th t m y exist th t need immedi te ttention.

Maintenance & Storage
Maintenance:
No regul r m inten nce is required.
C re however should be t ken to ensure th t ll connectors re kept cle n nd free from cont min tion of ny
kind. This is especi lly import nt in fibre optic equipment where cle nliness of optic l connections is critic l to
perform nce.
Storage:
If the equipment is not to be used for n extended period, it is recommended the whole unit be pl ced in se led
pl stic b g to prevent dust cont min tion. In re s of high humidity suit bly sized b g of silic gel should be
included to deter corrosion.
Where individu l circuit c rds re stored, they should be pl ced in ntist tic b gs. Proper ntist tic procedures
should be followed when inserting or removing c rds from these b gs.
Warranty & Service
Equipment is covered by limited w rr nty period of three ye rs from d te of first delivery unless contr ry
conditions pply under p rticul r contr ct of supply. For situ tions when “No Fault Found” for rep irs,
minimum ch rge of 1 hour’s l bour, t IRT’s current l bour ch rge r te, will pply, whether the equipment is
within the w rr nty period or not.
Equipment w rr nty is limited to f ults ttribut ble to defects in origin l design or m nuf cture. W rr nty on
components sh ll be extended by IRT only to the extent obt in ble from the component supplier.
Equipment return:
Before rr nging service, ensure th t the f ult is in the unit to be serviced nd not in ssoci ted equipment. If
possible, confirm this by substitution.
Before returning equipment cont ct should be m de with IRT or your loc l gent to determine whether the
equipment c n be serviced in the field or should be returned for rep ir.
The equipment should be properly p cked for return observing ntist tic procedures.
The following inform tion should ccomp ny the unit to be returned:
1. A f ult report should be included indic ting the n ture of the f ult
2. The oper ting conditions under which the f ult initi lly occurred.
3. Any ddition l inform tion, which m y be of ssist nce in f ult loc tion nd remedy.
4. A cont ct n me nd telephone nd f x numbers.
5. Det ils of p yment method for items not covered by w rr nty.
6. Full return ddress.
7. For situ tions when “No Fault Found” for rep irs, minimum ch rge of 1 hour’s l bour will pply,
whether the equipment is within the w rr nty period or not. Cont ct IRT for current hourly r te.
Ple se note th t ll freight ch rges re the responsibility of the customer.
The equipment should be returned to the agent who originally supplied the equipment or, where this is not
possible, to IRT direct s follows.
