Willkommen im kleinen Kreis der Leute,
die von ihrer Uhr genau genommen noch etwas mehr verlangen,
als dass sie ganz genau geht. Freude an der Uhr ist mehr als
Freude an der genauen Zeit. Es ist die Begeisterung für eine
verblüffende Idee. Für das Zusammenspiel von Präzision und
Fantasie. Von Zeit und Zeitlosigkeit. Von Grenzen und Unend-
lichkeit. Von Gesetzen, an die sich alle Welt zu halten hat, und
von Geschmack, den man niemandem vorschreiben kann.
Wir nehmen uns deshalb seit 1868 etwas mehr Zeit für die
Uhr, die nicht nur ganz genau gehen soll, sondern von der mit
jedem Augenblick auch die Faszination handwerklicher Meister-
leistungen ausgeht durch neue Erfindungen technischer, mate-
rieller oder formaler Natur, selbst wenn sie im kleinsten Detail
stecken, das vielleicht nicht einmal sichtbar ist. Ein schönes

DIE TECHNISCHEN FEINHEITEN
DER PORTUGIESER PERPETUAL
CALENDAR TOURBILLON
Ihre IWC-Uhr zeigt Ihnen die Zeit in Stunden und Minuten, die Mond-
phase, den Wochentag, das Datum, den Monat, die vierstellige
Jahreszahl sowie die verbleibende Gangdauer. Das mechani-
sche Uhrwerk mit automatischem Aufzug hat eine Gangreserve
nach dem Vollaufzug von ca. sieben Tagen (168 Stunden). Ihre
Portugieser Perpetual Calendar Tourbillon ist geschützt durch ein
randgewölbtes Saphirglas des Härtegrads 9 nach Mohs. Ihre Uhr
ist wasserdicht 3 bar. Die gravierte Schwungmasse aus 18Karat
Rotgold zieht die Uhr in beide Drehrichtungen durch den Pellaton-
Aufzug auf. Ihre Uhr ist mit einem fliegenden Minutentourbillon
ausgestattet, einem einzigartigen Mikromechanismus, der den
Einfluss der Schwerkraft auf die Ganggenauigkeit minimiert. Das
Tourbillon, eine Erfindung aus der Zeit nach der Französischen
Revolution, gilt von jeher als Paradedisziplin im Streben nach
absoluter Präzision mechanischer Uhren. Konkret geht es darum,
die einseitig wirkenden Kräfte der Erdanziehung auf die Unruh
zu kompensieren. Der sogenannte Schwerpunktfehler der Unruh
wirkt sich nämlich je nach Lage der Uhr auf die Ganggenauigkeit
aus. Doch diese physikalische Gegebenheit lässt sich überlisten:
Man setzt Unruh, Anker und Ankerrad in einen winzigen Käfig und
lässt diesen einmal pro Minute um sich selbst drehen. Der Ein-
fluss des Schwerpunktfehlers wird dadurch nahezu ausgeglichen.
Damit diese aussergewöhnliche Uhr ihre zukünftigen Aufgaben
erfüllen kann, müssen Sie die wenigen, wichtigen Bedienungs-
hinweise unbedingt beachten.

DIE NORMALSTELLUNG
In der Normalstellung (Position 0) können Sie das automatische
Uhrwerk auch von Hand aufziehen. Zum Ingangsetzen des Werks
genügen wenige Umdrehungen der Krone im Uhrzeigersinn. Wir
empfehlen jedoch, die Uhr bis zur Markierung von ca. drei Tagen
Gangreserve aufzuziehen, da dann die optimale Ganggenauigkeit
gewährleistet ist. Beim Tragen der Uhr muss sich die Krone immer
in Position 0 befinden.

zeit in Stunden und Minuten einstellen. Bewegen Sie dabei den
Minutenzeiger einige Minutenstriche über die einzustellende
Zeit hinaus. Positionieren Sie anschliessend den Minutenzeiger
durch eine leichte Rückwärtsbewegung exakt über dem einzu-
stellenden Minutenstrich. Durch diese Vorgehensweise wird
sichergestellt, dass sich beim Starten des Uhrwerks der Minuten-
zeiger ohne Verzögerung fortbewegt. Springt das Datum beim
Passieren von 12 Uhr nicht auf den heutigen Tag, müssen Sie
den Stunden zeiger um 12Stunden weiterdrehen. Sobald Sie
Stunde und Minute mit Hilfe der Vorgabe einer genauen Uhrzeit
eingestellt haben, drücken Sie die Krone wieder in Position 0.
Warnhinweis:
Um die Uhr vor eindringendem Wasser zu schützen, muss sich
die Krone permanent in Stellung 0 befinden und darf nur zum
Stellen der Uhr auf Position 1 oder 2 gezogen werden.
DIE GANGRESERVEANZEIGE
Die Gangreserveanzeige ist in sieben Tage eingeteilt, wobei die
Anzeige kontinuierlich erfolgt. Durch Tragen wird die Uhr über
den Aufzugsmechanismus stetig aufgezogen, was Sie am Gang-
reservezeiger mitverfolgen können. Die Markierung im Bereich
des letzten Tages weist Sie darauf hin, dass die Gangreserve

Wenn Sie Ihre Uhr länger als sieben Tage nicht getragen haben,
geht die Gangreserveanzeige auf 0 zurück, und Ihre Uhr bleibt
in der Regel um Mitternacht stehen, da die Schaltvorgänge des
Kalendariums viel Energie verbrauchen.
Warnhinweis:
Sollte Ihre Uhr zwischen 22 Uhr und 2 Uhr stehen geblieben
sein, dürfen Sie auf keinen Fall die Datumsschnellschaltung
in Position 1 der Krone verwenden, um das Datum zu kor-
rigieren. Die Folge wäre eine Beschädigung einer Komponente
im Kalendermechanismus, die eine Reparatur durch einen Uhr-
macher erforderlich macht. Das Gleiche gilt für ein zu schnelles
Drehen der Krone beim Einstellen des Kalendariums.
Wir empfehlen, das Uhrwerk zunächst in Position 0 der Krone mit
mindestens 20 Umdrehungen aufzuziehen. Ziehen Sie die Krone
danach in Position 2, um den Stunden- und Minutenzeiger auf
ca. 6 Uhr einzustellen. Für ein sekundengenaues Einstellen ist
es vorteilhaft, wenn das Uhrwerk beim Durchgang des kleinen
Sekundenzeigers genau auf der 60 angehalten wird. Bringen Sie
nun die Krone in Position 1, in dieser Position können Sie das
Datum gefahrlos auf den Vortag einstellen. Wenn Sie die Krone
jetzt wieder in Position 2 ziehen, können Sie die genaue Uhr-

demnächst ablaufen wird. Sie sollten die Uhr gegebenenfalls
von Hand aufziehen, da in diesem Bereich die Ganggenauig-
keit abnehmen kann. Wenn Sie die maximale Laufzeit der Uhr
ausschöpfen möchten, empfehlen wir, sie über die Markierung
der vollen Gangreserve (sieben Tage) hinaus um ca. 8 weitere
Umdrehungen der Krone aufzuziehen
DIE MONDPHASENANZEIGE
1 — Vollmond
2 — abnehmender Mond
3 — Neumond
4 — zunehmender Mond
Ihre Uhr besitzt eine Mondphasenanzeige, die mit Hilfe einer Über-
setzung die Zeit von einem Vollmond zum nächsten mit 28Tagen,
12 Stunden und 44 Minuten so genau wie möglich abbildet. Die
Schaltung des Monds erfolgt aber gekoppelt mit dem Kalender
in ganzen Tagesschritten. Da der Vollmond zu jeder Tages- und
Nachtzeit vorkommen kann, ist es möglich, dass Ihre Uhr zwar
das kalendarische Datum des Voll- oder Neumonds anzeigt, aber
die Mondanzeige diese Position aufgrund der exakten Uhrzeit
des Voll- oder Neumonds noch nicht erreicht hat. IWC stellt die
Mondanzeige so ein, dass an möglichst vielen Daten des Jahres
Voll- und Neumond exakt angezeigt werden.

Das Einstellen beim Überschreiten von Zeitzonen:
– Beim Überschreiten von Zeitzonen in östlicher Richtung stellen
Sie die Uhrzeit einfach vorwärts auf die neue Ortszeit ein.
– Werden Zeitzonen in westlicher Richtung überschritten, können
Sie die Zeiger Ihrer Uhr rückwärts auf die aktuelle Tageszeit
einstellen. Nicht überschreiten dürfen Sie dabei das Ende der
Schaltphase des Kalendariums, also 2 Uhr morgens. Ergibt
sich diese Situation, müssen Sie bei einer Reise nach Westen
die Ortszeit Ihres Reiseziels bereits vor 22 Uhr einstellen.
Sie dürfen die Zeiger keinesfalls zwischen 22 und 2 Uhr
zurückdrehen. Der Grund liegt darin, dass das Kalendarium
beim Rückwärtsdrehen der Zeiger über Mitternacht hinweg
nicht um einen Tag zurückschaltet, sondern auf demselben
Tag verbleibt. Überschreiten Sie also beim Rückwärtsstellen
der Zeiger das Ende der Schaltphase des Kalendariums (2
Uhr morgens), dann riskieren Sie, dass das Kalendarium ein
zweites Mal um einen Tag vorschaltet und somit einen Tag zu
viel anzeigt.
Das Einstellen beim Überschreiten der Datumsgrenze:
– Beim Überschreiten der Datumsgrenze in westlicher Richtung
(Sie springen in den nächsten Tag, egal zu welcher Tageszeit)
stellen Sie die Uhrzeit einfach vorwärts auf die neue Ortszeit
ein, die Datumsschaltung erfolgt automatisch.
– Beim Überschreiten der Datumsgrenze in östlicher Richtung
(Sie springen in den gestrigen Tag, egal zu welcher Tages-
zeit) müssen Sie die Uhr ebenfalls vorwärts auf die neue
Ortszeit einstellen. Jetzt zeigt Ihre Uhr allerdings das falsche
Tagesdatum an (einen Tag zu viel). Diese Datumsfehlanzeige
kann mit zwei Zeigerrückstellungen von jeweils 12 Stunden
korrigiert werden:
– Die erste Rückstellung um 12 Stunden erfolgt am Nach-
mittag zwischen 14 und 22 Uhr; damit verhindern Sie das
Weiterschalten des Kalendariums um Mitternacht.
– Die zweite Rückstellung um 12 Stunden erfolgt am nächsten
Vormittag zwischen 2 und 11 Uhr; damit ist die Datums-
anzeige wieder synchron zum Ortsdatum.
Warnhinweis:
Die Uhr darf auf keinen Fall im Zeitraum von 22 Uhr abends
bis 2Uhr morgens zurückgestellt werden. Dadurch kommt
es zu einer Desynchronisation, die nur durch einen Uhrmacher
behoben werden kann.

HINWEIS ZU MAGNETFELDERN
Aufgrund der immer höheren Verbreitung von sehr starken
Magneten aus Seltenerdlegierungen (beispielsweise Neodym-
Eisen-Bor) in den letzten Jahren – diese kommen u. a. in Gegen-
ständen wie Lautsprechern, Mobiltelefonen sowie Verschlüssen
von Schmuck und Handtaschen vor – können mechanische
Uhren beim Kontakt mit solchen Magneten magnetisiert werden.
Dieser Vorgang kann zu einer permanenten Gangabweichung
Ihrer Uhr führen, die nur durch eine fachmännische Entmagne-
tisierung behoben werden kann. Wir empfehlen Ihnen, Ihre Uhr
nicht in die Nähe solcher Magnete zu bringen.
Uhren mit Weicheisen-Innengehäuse bieten einen höheren
Schutz gegen Magnetfelder und übertreffen die Forderung der
DIN-Norm 8309 um ein Vielfaches. Dennoch kann es auch hier
in der unmittelbaren Umgebung von sehr starken Magneten
zu einer Magnetisierung des Werks kommen. Wir empfehlen
Ihnen daher, auch Uhren mit Weicheisen-Innengehäuse nicht in
direkten Kontakt mit starken Magneten zu bringen.
Im Falle einer plötzlichen Veränderung der Ganggenauigkeit
wenden Sie sich bitte an einen autorisierten IWC-Fachhändler
(Official Agent), um Ihre Uhr auf Magnetismus prüfen zu lassen.
DIE WASSERDICHTHEIT
Die Wasserdichtheitsangabe erfolgt bei IWC-Uhren in bar und
nicht in Metern. Meterangaben, wie sie sonst häufig in der Uhren-
industrie zur Angabe der Wasserdichtheit verwendet werden,
können aufgrund der oftmals verwendeten Testverfahren nicht mit
der Tiefe eines Tauchgangs gleichgesetzt werden. Meterangaben
lassen deshalb auch keine Rückschlüsse auf die tatsächlichen
Gebrauchsmöglichkeiten bei Feuchtigkeit, Nässe und im bzw.
unter Wasser zu. Gebrauchsempfehlungen im Zusammenhang
mit der Wasserdichtheit Ihrer Uhr finden Sie im Internet unter
www.iwc.com/water-resistance. Gerne informiert Sie auch Ihr
autorisierter IWC-Fachhändler (Official Agent).
Um eine einwandfreie Wasserdichtheit Ihrer Uhr sicherzustellen,
muss diese mindestens einmal jährlich durch eine IWC-Service-
stelle geprüft werden. Eine solche Prüfung muss auch nach
aussergewöhnlichen Belastungen durchgeführt werden. Werden
diese Prüfungen nicht ordnungsgemäss durchgeführt oder wird
die Uhr von nicht autorisierten Personen geöffnet, so lehnt IWC
jegliche Garantie- oder Haftungsansprüche ab.
Empfehlung: Nach jedem Öffnen und Service Ihrer IWC-Uhr
muss Ihr autorisierter IWC-Fachhändler (Official Agent) wieder
eine Wasserdichtheitsprüfung durchführen.

HINWEIS
Wenn Ihre Uhr mit einem Armband aus Leder, Textil oder Kaut-
schuk mit Leder- bzw. Textilinlay versehen ist, vermeiden Sie
den Kontakt Ihres hochwertigen Armbandes mit Wasser, öligen
Stoffen, Lösungs- und Reinigungsmitteln oder kosmetischen
Produkten. Auf diese Weise können Sie Verfärbungen und einer
schnellen Alterung des Materials vorbeugen.
DER SERVICE AN IHRER PORTUGIESER
PERPETUAL CALENDAR TOURBILLON
Alle Bestandteile dieser Uhr sind aus bestem Material gefertigt.
Trotzdem unterliegen einige Teile einer natürlichen Abnutzung.
Wichtig ist vor allem, dass die Abnutzungsstellen immer optimal
geölt sind und dass die Verschmutzung des Öls durch metalli-
schen Abrieb rechtzeitig beseitigt wird. Wir empfehlen deshalb,
an Ihrer Uhr ca. alle fünf Jahre einen Unterhaltsservice durch-
führen zu lassen. Wenden Sie sich dazu an einen autorisierten
IWC-Fachhändler (Official Agent) oder direkt an den IWC-Kunden-
dienst in Schaffhausen.

THE TECHNICAL REFINEMENTS
OF THE PORTUGIESER
PERPETUAL CALENDAR TOURBILLON
Your IWC watch shows you the time in hours and minutes, the
moon phase, the day, the date, the month and the year in four
digits, as well as the remaining power reserve. The mechanical
movement with automatic winding has a power reserve of approx-
imately 7 days (168 hours) when fully wound. Your Portugieser
Perpetual Calendar Tourbillon is protected by an arched-edge
sapphire glass of hardness grade 9 on Mohs’ scale. Your watch
is water-resistant 3 bar. The engraved rotor made of 18-carat red
gold winds the watch in both directions of rotation via the Pellaton
winding system. Your watch is equipped with a flying minute tour-
billon, a unique micro mechanism, which minimizes the effect of
gravity on the accuracy. The tourbillon, an invention made in the
aftermath of the French Revolution, has always been regarded
as the ultimate challenge in the quest for absolute mechanical
watchmaking precision. More specifically, the purpose of the
mechanism is to counterbalance the one-sided pull of the earth’s
gravity on the balance. This is because the residual gravitational
error of the balance influences the accuracy, depending on the
position of the watch. Fortunately, there is a way to overcome
this problem caused by one of the basic laws of physics: the

balance, the pallets and the escape wheel are mounted in a
minute cage that rotates around itself once every minute. In this
way, the effect of the gravitational error is practically eliminated.
To ensure that this extraordinary watch continues to perform
faultlessly in the future, it is essential to observe a few important
operating instructions.

NORMAL POSITION
With the crown in the normal position (0), you can also wind the
automatic movement by hand. A few revolutions of the crown
in a clockwise direction are enough to start the movement.
However, it is better to wind the watch to approximately the
3-day marking on the power reserve as this will ensure optimal
accuracy. The crown must always be in position 0 when you are
wearing your watch.

until it is exactly above the correct minute stroke. This ensures that
the minute hand begins to move immediately when you restart
the movement. If the date does not jump to today’s date when
it passes 12 o’clock, you must wind the hour hand forward by a
further 12 hours. Once the hour and minute have been set to the
correct time using this process, push back the crown to position0.
Warning:
In order to protect the watch from the ingress of water, the crown
must always be in position 0 and should only be pulled out to
position 1 or 2 when setting the watch.
POWER RESERVE DISPLAY
The power reserve display is divided into 7 days with continuous
display. The winding mechanism winds the watch continuously
while you are wearing it, and you can follow the process on the
power reserve indicator. The marking in the area of the last day
tells you that the power reserve is about to expire. You should
then wind the watch by hand, if necessary, since the precision
can be reduced in this area. In order to maximize the running
time of your watch, we recommend that you wind the crown up
to 8 additional revolutions beyond the marking of the full power
reserve (7 days).

SETTING THE TIME AND CALENDAR
If you have not worn your watch for more than 7 days, the power
reserve display will go back to 0 and the watch will normally stop
at midnight, as the changeover of the calendar uses a great deal
of energy.
Warning:
If your watch has stopped between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m., you
should on no account alter the date using the rapid-advance
date display with the crown in position 1. This would result in
damage to a component in the calendar mechanism which would
require repair by a watchmaker. The same applies to turning the
crown too rapidly when setting the calendar.
We recommend winding the movement at least 20 times with
the crown in position 0. Then pull the crown out to position 2 in
order to set the hour and minute hands to approximately 6 a.m.
To set the time accurately to the second, it is best to stop the
movement as the small seconds hand passes 60. Push back the
crown to position 1. In this position, you can safely set the date
to the previous day. If you now pull the crown out to position 2,
you can set the exact time in hours and minutes. When doing this,
move the minute hand a few minute strokes beyond the time to be
set. Then position the minute hand by moving it gently backwards

CROSSING TIME ZONES AND THE

Setting when crossing time zones:
– When crossing time zones in an easterly direction, you should
simply set the time forward to the new local time.
– When crossing time zones in a westerly direction, you can set
the hands of your watch back to the actual time of day. When
doing this, however, you must not move back into the calen-
dar’s automatic switching phase, i.e. beyond 2 a.m. If this
situation occurs when you are travelling west, you should set
the local time of your destination before 10 p.m. You must

Your watch features a moon phase display, which, with the help
of a transmission, displays the time from one full moon to the
next with 28 days, 12 hours and 44 minutes as precisely as
possible. The moon phase display advances in whole-day incre-
ments together with the calendar. As a full moon can occur at
any time of night or day, it may be that your watch displays the
calendar date of the full or new moon but that the moon phase
display has not reached this position due to the exact time of
the full or new moon. IWC sets the moon phase display so that
it displays the full and new moon precisely on as many dates in
the year as possible.

– Setting the watch back another 12 hours the following
morning between 2 a.m. and 11 a.m. will synchronize the
date display with the local date.
Warning:
The watch must not be adjusted backwards between 10 p.m.
and 2 a.m., as this would result in a desynchronization that can
only be rectified by a watchmaker.
INFORMATION ABOUT MAGNETIC FIELDS
As a result of the ever greater prevalence in recent years of very
strong magnets made from rare-earth alloys (e.g. neodymium-
iron-boron) – these are found in objects such as loudspeakers,
mobile phones and fasteners on jewellery as well as handbags–
mechanical watches are increasingly likely to come into contact
with such magnets and become magnetized. This can lead to
the watch rate being permanently affected, a problem that can
only be resolved by a process of demagnetization carried out
by aspecialist. We recommend that you keep your watch away
from such magnets.

not turn the hands back between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. This
is because the calendar does not move backwards by one
day when the hands are turned back beyond midnight, but
remains on the same day. If you go past the end of the calen-
dar’s switching phase (i.e. beyond 2 a.m.) when turning the
hands back, you run the risk of the calendar advancing by one
day for a second time and thus indicating one day too many.
Setting when crossing the International Date Line:
– When crossing the International Date Line in a westerly
direction (you enter the next day, regardless of the time of
day), simply turn the time forward to the new local time, and
the date change will take place automatically.
– When crossing the International Date Line in an easterly
direction (you enter the previous day, regardless of the time
of day), you must likewise set your watch forward to the new
local time. However, your watch will now indicate the wrong
date (one day too many). This incorrect date indication can be
corrected by resetting the hands twice, by 12 hours on each
occasion:
– Setting the watch back by 12 hours during the afternoon
between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. will prevent the calendar from
advancing at midnight.

you with information.
To ensure that your watch stays properly water-resistant, you
should have it checked by an IWC service centre at least once
a year. Your watch should also be tested after exposure to
unusually harsh conditions. If the tests are not carried out as
stipulated, or if the watch is opened by unauthorized persons,
IWC will accept no warranty or liability claims.
Recommendation: Your authorized IWC Official Agent must
carry out a water-resistance test whenever your IWC watch is
opened and serviced.
NOTE
If your watch has a strap made of leather, textile or rubber with
a leather or textile inlay, make sure that the high-quality strap
does not come into contact with water, oily substances, solvents,
cleaning agents or cosmetic products. This way you can prevent
discoloration and premature ageing of the material.
PORTUGIESER PERPETUAL CALENDAR TOURBILLON
Watches with a soft-iron inner case provide a higher level of
protection against magnetic fields and far exceed the require-
ments of DIN standard 8309. Nevertheless, it is still possible for
the watch movement to become magnetized in close proximity
to very strong magnets. We therefore recommend that watches
with asoft-iron inner case also be kept away from direct contact
with strong magnets.
Should there be a sudden change in the precision of your
timepiece, please contact an authorized IWC Official Agent to
have your watch checked for magnetism.
WATER-RESISTANCE
The water-resistance of IWC watches is stated in bar and not
in metres. Metres, which are often used elsewhere in the watch
industry to indicate water-resistance, cannot be equated with
dive depth because of the test procedures that are frequently
used. Water-resistance shown in metres provides no indica-
tion as to actual use of the watch in the presence of moisture
and wetness, and in or under water. Recommendations for use
in connection with the water-resistance of your watch can be
found on the Internet at www.iwc.com/water-resistance. Your

Although the parts in this watch are all manufactured from
top-quality materials, a number of components are subject to
natural wear and tear. It is particularly important to ensure that
the points at which wear occurs are always well lubricated and
that oil contaminated by metal abrasion is regularly removed. For
this reason, we recommend that you have your watch serviced
approximately every 5 years. Please contact an authorized IWC
Official Agent or send your watch directly to the IWC Customer
Service Department in Schaffhausen.
