POWER SOURCE (AC ADAPTOR ONLY)
The JCR-229 is powered by n extern l AC-DC d ptor with n output of DC 5V
1500mA .
The unit is lso equipped with b ttery b ck-up system for the clock th t uses 1 x
CR2032 lithium b ttery (Not included).
POWER CONNECTION
1. Connect the cord of the power d ptor to the DC IN JACK (#16) of the JCR-229.
2. Plug the power d ptor into household w ll socket. The r dio is powered up nd
in st ndby mode when you see the displ y turn on.
Battery Back-up system
•
The r dio is equipped with b ttery b ck-up system th t requires 3V CR2032
lithium b ttery (not included). Insert the b ttery into the BATTERY
COMPARTMENT (#13) nd m ke sure the positive nd neg tive (+ or -) sides of
the b ttery re in cont ct with the corresponding termin ls loc ted in the BATTERY
COMPARTMENT (#13).
•
If power out ge occurs, the r dio utom tic lly switches to the b ttery power
supply nd keeps the clock nd timer settings.
•
To open the BATTERY COMPARTMENT (#13), use screwdriver to loosen the
screw on the comp rtment door.
•
When repl cing the b ttery, do not disconnect the power d ptor. Otherwise, ll
clock nd l rm settings will be lost.
WARN NG
DO NOT NGEST BATTERY, CHEM CAL BURN HAZARD
This product cont ins coin/button cell b ttery. If the coin/button cell b ttery is
sw llowed, it c n c use severe intern l burns in just 2 hours nd c n le d to de th.
Keep new nd used b tteries w y from children. If the b ttery comp rtment does not
close securely, stop using the product nd keep it w y from children.
If you think b tteries might h ve been sw llowed or pl ced inside ny p rt of the body,
seek immedi te medic l ttention.

SETT NG THE DATE AND T ME
The displ y will be fl shing when the unit is plugged in for the first time. T p the SET
BUTTON (#18) nd the displ y will stop fl shing nd go into st ndby mode.
Note:
The JCR-229 h s D te nd Time fe ture, so you will be setting the Ye r,
Month nd D te prior to setting the time.
Setting the Date and Time
1. In st ndby mode, Press nd hold the SET BUTTON (#18) until the clock displ y
begins to fl sh.
2. The l st 2 digits of the ye r will be fl shing. Repe tedly T p the BACK BUTTON
(#3) /
FORWARD
BUTTON
(#4) to set the current ye r.
3. T p the SET BUTTON (#18) to confirm nd move on to setting the Month nd D y.
4. The first 2 digits fl shing re the month, nd the l st 2 digits re the d te.
Repe tedly T p the BACK BUTTON
(#3) to set the current month (1-12), nd
the FORWARD
BUTTON
(#4) to set the current d te (1-31).
5. T p the SET BUTTON (#18) to confirm nd move on to setting the Hours nd
Minutes.
6. The first 2 digits fl shing re the hours, nd the l st 2 digits re the minutes.
Repe tedly t p the BACK BUTTON
(#3) to set the hour nd the FORWARD
BUTTON
(#4) to set the minutes.
Note:
The PM indic tor (#8) in the top left corner of the displ y will light when the
hour is set to PM nd will be off when the hour is set to AM.
7. T p the SET BUTTON (#18) to confirm the time nd the displ y will stop fl shing.
Notes:
•
M ke sure the hour is set correctly to AM or PM. The PM INDICATOR (#8) is
loc ted in the upper left corner of the LED DISPLAY (#7). If the PM INDICATOR
(#8) is lit, the displ yed time is “PM”. If the PM INDICATOR (#8) is not lit in the LED
DISPLAY (#7), the time displ yed is “AM”.
•
The unit will utom tic lly s ve the settings nd exit the d te nd time set mode if
you do not t p the SET BUTTON (#18) within 5 seconds.
•
In st ndby mode, repe tedly t p the SET BUTTON (#18) to review the Weekd y
(d1-d7*) – Ye r (l st 2 digits) – Month/d y – Time. The unit will utom tic lly
switch b ck to showing the current time fter 3 seconds once you stop pressing the
SET BUTTON (#18).

ALARM OPERAT ON
The JCR-229 fe tures du l l rm clock.
Setting the alarms:
1. In st ndby mode, press nd hold the ALARM 1 /ALARM 2 BUTTONS (#1/#2)
to enter the l rm time setting mode.
2. In the l rm time setting mode, press the ALARM 1 /ALARM 2 BUTTONS
(#1/#2) repe tedly to cycle through the setting options:
Al rm time > Al rm sound source > Al rm frequency
•
Setting the alarm time
: T p the BACK BUTTON (#3) repe tedly to set the
hour nd the t p the FORWARD
BUTTON (#4) repe tedly to set the minute.
•
Setting the alarm sound source
: T p the BACK BUTTON (#3) or the
FORWARD BUTTON (#4) repe tedly to select w ke to l rm or w ke to
r dio. The corresponding l rm indic tor will turn on ccording to your
selection.
•
Setting the alarm frequency
: T p the BACK BUTTON (#3) or the
FORWARD BUTTON (#4) repe tedly to select n l rm frequency.
(1-5 = Mond y to Frid y, 1-7 = Everyd y, 1-1 = selected d y of week*, 6-7 =
S turd y & Sund y)
Note: Once 1-1 is selected, t p the BACK BUTTON (#3) or the FORWARD
BUTTON (#4) to select specific d y for the l rm ctiv tion (1 to 7 =
Mond y to Sund y).
When ll the l rm setting steps re completed, the l rm time will be set nd the
corresponding l rm indic tor ( l rm or r dio) will light.
Turning the alarms ON or OFF
When the unit is OFF, t p the ALARM 1 /ALARM 2 BUTTONS (#1/#2) to en ble
or dis ble the respective l rm. The corresponding ALARM 1 INDICATORS (RADIO
#10 or ALARM #9) or ALARM 2 INDICATORS (RADIO #12 or ALARM #11) will light
when the l rm is en bled.
Deactivating a sounding alarm
•
Press ALARM OFF BUTTON (#18) to switch off the l rm sound.
•
When the l rm sounds, the corresponding ALARM 1 INDICATORS (RADIO #10
or ALARM #9) or ALARM 2 INDICATORS (RADIO #12 or ALARM #11) will fl sh.
Notes:
•
For setting one-d y l rm, just set the desired l rm time one d y before.
•
The l rm will sound t the time set the d y prior. After h ving switched off the
l rm sound, t p the corresponding l rm button to dis ble the l rm (the l rm
indic tor will off).
•
To set nother one-d y l rm, just repe t the bove steps.

SNOOZE FUNCT ON
When the l rm sounds, t p ny button on the top p nel to tempor rily turn off the
l rm nd ctiv te the snooze function, the l rm will stop nd sound g in 9 minutes
l ter. If you t p ny button on the top p nel g in, the l rm will tempor rily turn off
g in nd sound g in in 9 minutes nd so on.
NOTES:
•
To tempor rily silence n l rm, press ny button on the top p nel. The l rm will
sound g in when the snooze period (9 minutes) expires.
•
The corresponding Al rm 1 or Al rm 2 indic tor ( l rm or r dio) fl shes on the
displ y during the snooze period.
•
To c ncel the snooze period nd the l rm, press the ALARM OFF BUTTON (#18).
RAD O OPERAT ON
Listening to the radio
1. Press the POWER BUTTON (#6) to turn on the JCR-229.
2. T p the BACK BUTTON (#3) or the FORWARD BUTTON (#4) to djust
frequency.
3. Press nd hold the BACK BUTTON (#3) or the FORWARD BUTTON (#4) to
utom tic lly tune to the next v il ble FM st tion.
4. T p the VOLUME UP
BUTTON (#1) or the VOLUME DOWN
BUTTON (#2) to
obt in the desired volume level.
5. Press the POWER BUTTON (#6) to turn the r dio off.
Notes:
• Use m nu l tuning to select we ker st tions th t might be skipped during
utom tic tuning.
• If the utom tic tuning does not stop on the ex ct frequency of the st tion, for
ex mple, it stops on 88.9 MHz inste d of 88.8 MHz, use the m nu l tuning method
to “fine tune” to the ex ct frequency of the desired st tion.
• To insure m ximum FM tuner reception, unwr p nd fully extend the FM
ANTENNA (#15) for best FM r dio reception
To set / recall the radio presets
1. Press the POWER BUTTON (#6) to turn on the JCR-229.
2. T p the BACK BUTTON (#3) or the FORWARD BUTTON (#4) to select the
desired st tion.
3. Press nd hold the MEM/M+/SET BUTTON (#18) until “P01” (or the next v il ble
preset slot shows on the LED DISPLAY (#7).
4. T p the BACK BUTTON (#3) or the FORWARD BUTTON (#4) to select
preset number (P01-P10).
5. Press the MEM/M+/SET BUTTON (#18) g in to confirm the preset.
6. Repe t steps 2 through 5 to preset up to 10 st tions.
7. To rec ll one of the preset st tions lre dy progr mmed, t p the MEM/M+/SET
BUTTON (#18) repe tedly until you re ch the desired preset number/r dio st tion.
Altern tively, press the MEM/M+/SET BUTTON (#18) once nd then press the
BACK BUTTON (#3) or the FORWARD BUTTON (#4) to select preset
st tion

SLEEP OPERAT ON
The sleep timer llows the unit turn off utom tic lly fter design ted time h s
el psed.
1. Press the POWER BUTTON (#6) to turn on the JCR-229.
2. Press the BACK
BUTTON
(#3) or the FORWARD
BUTTON
(#4) to select the
desired r dio st tion.
3. Press the SLEEP BUTTON (#5) to enter sleep mode.
4. Repe tedly t p the SLEEP BUTTON (#5) to select the sleep timer 10 – 20 – 30
- 40 – 50 – 60 - 70 – 80 – 90 - 00 (in minutes). The unit will pl y for the selected
length of time then turn off utom tic lly.
5. To c ncel the sleep timer, repe tedly t p the SLEEP BUTTON (#5) until the
timer shows 00.
6. To turn the unit “Off” before the selected length of time, press the POWER
BUTTON (#6) t ny time.
Note:
To check the rem ining sleep time, t p the SLEEP BUTTON (#5) once.
CHANG NG THE D SPLAY CONTENT
•
In st ndby mode, press the Y-M-D BUTTON (#18) repe tedly to show the d y of
week, ye r, month/d te nd time (d1 = Mond y, d2 = Tuesd y, d3 = Wednesd y,
d4 = Thursd y, d5 = Frid y, d6 = S turd y nd d7 = Sund y).
•
In r dio mode, press the BACK BUTTON (#3) or the FORWARD BUTTON
(#4) once to briefly ch nge the displ y from the clock time to the current r dio
frequency.
D MMER OPERAT ON
In st ndby mode, press the DIMMER BUTTON (#5) repe tedly to select the
brightness settings of the displ y (High, Low or Off).

1. Plug the st nd rd end of the USB c ble (not included) into the USB
CHARGING
PORT (#17) loc ted on the b ck of the JCR-229. Plug the other end of the c ble
into the device you wish to ch rge.
2. Observe the b ttery ch rge indic tor on your device to m ke sure the ch rging
process st rts norm lly.
3. Unplug the c ble when your device is fully ch rged.
WARN NG!
The USB port loc ted on the b ck of the JCR-229 is designed for sm rt phone or
port ble device b ttery ch rging only nd does not support d t tr nsfer or
connection to computer.
Don’t connect the USB port of the JCR-229 to nother USB ch rger. It m y
d m ge both units nd void the w rr nty.

Do not use ny ggressive cle ners, brushes with nylon bristles, sh rp or met llic

the r dio.
