The following model number is listed under Underwriters Laboratories® (UL) 1076 for Proprietary
Burglar Alarm Units and Systems, UL 294 for Access Control Systems Units and Underwriters
Laboratories of Canada ULC/ORD-C1076-86.

When installed at the site the following requirements must be met to comply with these standards.
1. The CKM-EP1502 shall be mounted in Listed Enclosures CKM-CE75-E2M, CKM-CE150-E4M
and Listed Burglar Alarm and Access Control System Units SPF10000-1I00, SPF1I100-1I00 or
SPF1I300-1J00.
2. A CKM-EP1502 mounted in Listed Enclosures CKM-CE75-E2M, CKM-CE150-E4M, and
Listed Burglar Alarm and Access Control System Units SPF10000-1I00, SPF1I100-1I00 or
SPF1I300-1J00 shall be powered through the CKM-F8P power distribution module.
3. Transient protection devices that are installed must not be removed or defeated.
4. Do not connect equipment to an AC power source that is controlled by a switch.
5. A 1.5Kohm/750ohm custom end-of-line resistance supervised circuit was investigated by
Underwriter Laboratories.
6. Power for devices connected through relay/control output wiring must be provided by a UL
Listed power limited power source.
7. RS485-type readers have not been investigated by Underwriters Laboratories.
8. Encrypted communication has not investigated by Underwriters Laboratories.
9. RS232 communication has not investigated by Underwriters Laboratories.
10. Assa Abloy Aperio 1-to-8 communication hub and locks have not been investigated by
Underwriters Laboratories.

This document provides hardware installation and setup instructions for
CKM-EP1502, the authentic Mercury™ intelligent dual reader controller. This

GENERAL INFORMATION
The CKM-EP1502 intelligent dual reader controller provides decision making,
event reporting, and database storage for the Mercury hardware platform. Two
reader interfaces provide control for two doors.
It communicates with the host via onboard 10-BaseT/100Base-TX Ethernet
port. Port 1 (RS-232) is reserved for future use.
Two physical barriers can be controlled with the CKM-EP1502. Each reader
port can accommodate a read-head that utilizes Wiegand, magnetic stripe, or
two-wire RS-485 electrical signaling standards; one- or two-wire LED
controls; and buzzer control (one-wire LED mode only). Four Form-C relay
outputs may be used for strike control or alarm signaling. The relay contacts are
rated at 5 A at 30 VDC, dry contact configuration. Eight inputs are provided for
monitoring the door contacts, exit push buttons and alarm contacts. The CKM-
EP1502 requires 12-24 VDC for power. We recommend that the CKM-EP1502
be mounted 0.25 in. minimum above any conductive surface.

WIRING INFORMATION
This sections covers the following:

Cable Routing
The cables should run in grounded conduit or at least two feet from AC
power, fluorescent lights, or other high energy sources.
IMPORTANT: All data cables should be physically separated from power lines. If
conduit is used, do not run data cables in the same conduit as power cables or
certain door strike cables, e.g. strike voltage greater that 42V or Magnetic door
locks without EMI suppression.
All cables must conform with the following regulations:
• National Electrical Code
•NFPA 70
• Local electrical codes
• Canadian Electric Code C22.1 (installations in Canada)
• BSI Standard BS7671, latest edition (installations in Great Britain)
Cabling should be made using good wiring practices and should be long
enough to allow service loops at their terminations in the enclosure.

Input Power, Cabinet Tamper, and UPS Fault Input Wiring
The CKM-EP1502 requires 12-24 VDC power. Locate power source as
close to the unit as possible.
IMPORTANT: Connect power with minimum of 18 AWG wire. Connect the GND
signal to earth ground in one location within the system. Multiple earth ground
connections may cause ground loop problems and is not advised.
IMPORTANT: Observe polarity on 12-24 VDC input.
There are two dedicated inputs for cabinet tamper and UPS fault
monitoring. Normal (safe) condition is a closed contact. If you are not
using these inputs, install a jumper wire.

Communication Wiring
The CKM-EP1502 controller communicates to the host via the onboard
10-BaseT/100Base-TX Ethernet interface (port 0).
The serial I/O device communication port (TB3) is a two-wire RS-485
interface which you can use to connect additional I/O panels. The
interface allows multidrop communication on a single bus of up to 4,000
feet (1,219 m). Use twisted pairs (minimum 24 AWG) with an overall
shield for communication.
IMPORTANT: Install the termination jumper ONLY on the panel at each end of the
RS-485 bus. Failure to do so compromises the proper operation of the
communication channel.

Reader Wiring
Each reader port supports Wiegand, magnetic stripe, and two-wire RS-
485 electrical interfaces. Power to the reader is selectable: 12 VDC (VIN
must be greater than 20 VDC), or power is passed through (PT) from the
input voltage of the CKM-EP1502 (TB1-VIN) and is current limited to
150 mA for each reader port. Readers that require different voltage or
have high current requirements should be powered separately. Refer to
the reader manufacture specifications for cabling requirements. In the
two-wire LED mode, the Buzzer output in used to drive the second LED.
Reader port configuration is set via the host software.

Input Circuit Wiring
Typically, you use these inputs to monitor door position, request to exit,
or alarm contacts. You can configure input circuits as unsupervised or
supervised.
When request to exit (REX) input is supervised, the strike remains locked
when a transition to open state or short state occurs. Such transitions do
not generate notifications. The strike relay unlocks only when the REX
input changes to the active state, that is, when the REX switch contact
opens or closes depending on the configuration.
When you configure input circuits as unsupervised, reporting consists of
only the open or closed states.
When you configure input circuits as supervised, the input circuit reports
not only open and closed states, but also open and short. A supervised
input circuit requires two resistors added to the circuit to facilitate proper
reporting. The standard supervised circuit requires 1k Ohm, 1% resistors,
and should be located as close to the sensor as possible. Configure
custom end of line (EOL) resistances via the host software.
The input circuit wiring configurations shown in Figure 5 are supported,
but may not be typical.
