1.1 Validity

1.2 Target group
This document is intended for specialist personnel only.
The descriptions are intended for specialist staff trained by the manufacturer. The de-
scriptions are no replacement for product training.
Service personnel are persons who have the appropriate technical training and ex-
perience required for them to be aware of the risks that could arise for themselves or
others when carrying out these activities and to minimise these risks for themselves

2 Basic safety information
This product has been built according to the latest technology and accepted safety
regulations. Nevertheless, handling this product can pose a risk to people and prop-
erty.
Read and observe the following safety information before using the product.
2.1 Proper use
This product has been designed exclusively for use as set out in the chapter Product
Description. Any other use will be deemed improper use. The manufacturer accepts
no liability for any resulting damage. The user/operator bears sole responsibility for
the risk.
2.2 Product changes
NOTICE
No changes should be made to the product, unless in accordance with changes de-
scribed in the instructions.
2.3 Use in emergency exit or panic door locks
WARNING
Risk of personal injury or death.
• Improper use or incorrectly installed mechatronic cylinders can lead to emer-
gency exit locks or panic door locks and doors not opening.
• The use of a mechatronic cylinder must be checked carefully before using it in
locks with a panic function.
ðThe compact mechatronic cylinder and the mechatronic cylinder with
thumbturn knob are not suitable for use in locks with a panic function.
2.4 Areas of use
When used outdoors, the cylinder must be protected against sustained rainfall using
a weather guard.
NOTICE
Freezing liquids can disrupt the function, resulting in doors not opening. No water,
therefore, should get into the cylinder. When used externally, the cylinder must be
protected against sustained rainfall using a weather guard.
When used in fire protection doors, escape routes or rescue routes, the locally applic-
able guidelines and building regulations must be observed.

2.5 ESD protective measures
NOTICE
Danger of damage to electronic components from electrostatic discharge.
If electronic printed circuit boards and components are handled incorrectly, damage
may occur which leads to their complete breakdown or sporadic faults.
• When installing and repairing the product, the general ESD protective measures
are to be observed.
• When handling electronic components, wear the ESD wrist strap. Connect the
end of the strap to an ESD socket or an unpainted, earthed metal component.
This will safely and effectively conduct charges away from your body.
• Only handle the edges of printed circuit boards. Do not touch printed circuit
boards or connecting plugs.
• Put removed components on an anti-static surface or in an anti-static shielding
container.
• Avoid contact between printed circuit boards and clothing. The wrist strap only
protects the printed circuit boards from static electricity on the body. Damage
can still occur due to static electricity on clothing.
• Only transport and ship removed modules in ESD-shielding, conductive protect-
ive containers.
2.6 Handling of lithium batteries
NOTICE
Lithium batteries can explode or burst explosively.
Improper handling of lithium batteries can lead to fires and explosions.
• Only replace lithium batteries with batteries of the same type.
• Do not open, drill through or squash lithium batteries.
• Do not burn lithium batteries or expose them to high temperatures.
• Do not short circuit lithium batteries.
• Do not recharge lithium batteries.

3 Product description
This section provides an overview of the product and gives information on technical
details.
3.1 Overview

The Kaba mechatronic cylinder compact is a 22 mm Swiss round profile lock cylinder
with an RFID antenna, a locking unit and an electronic module in the inside knob.
The lock can only be actuated if the user key (Kaba smart key) is authorised electron-
ically. Access authorisation and the operating state are signalled acoustically.
When used outdoors, the cylinder must be protected against sustained rainfall using
a weather guard.

4 Installation
This chapter describes the installation of the product.
4.1 Installation variants
Installing the internal fitting without bar cut-out [}4.2]
• The internal fitting without bar cut-out has to be unscrewed.
Installing the internal fitting with bar cut-out [}4.3]
• The internal fitting with bar cut-out does not have to be unscrewed.
4.2 Installing the mechatronic cylinder compact

1. Align the cylinder cam so that it is parallel to the cylinder bar.
2. Push the cylinder into the mortise lock from the inside.
Note: The antenna (3) must be at least 7.5mm from the external fitting (2).
3. Tighten the forend locking stud.
4. Check the distance (X) between the inner side and adapter (knob).
Note: Distance (X) must be at least equal to the thickness of the internal fitting.
5. Remove the protection film from the cover of the knob.
ðThe cylinder has been installed.
Continue the installation with Chapter [}4.2.3] to [}4.2.6].

4.2.3 Removing the knob and e-module
1. Press out the cover using a small screwdriver.
2. Remove the screw.
3. Pull off the knob.
Note: Do not turn the e-module.
4. Remove the battery.
5. Pull the transparent cover forwards and away.
6. For information on installation with a wireless module, see Chapter Removing
the wireless module [}8.3.2].
7. Open the locking tabs securing the socket.
8. Pull out the flat ribbon cable.
9. Remove the screw.
10. Pull the e-module out of the axis.
ðThe e-module has been removed.

4.2.4 Removing the adapter
NOTICE
Prevent damage to the flat ribbon cable.
Install the flat ribbon cable in such a way that it cannot be crushed, ripped out or
damaged by improper handling.

4.2.5 Installing the adapter
1. Screw the internal fitting without bar cut-out to the door.
NOTICE
Prevent damage to the flat ribbon cable.
Install the flat ribbon cable in such a way that it cannot be crushed, ripped out or
damaged by improper handling.
1. Guide the flat ribbon cable through the adapter.
2. Guide the adapter over the axis.

4.2.6 Installing the e-module and knob
NOTICE
Prevent damage to the flat ribbon cable.
Install the flat ribbon cable in such a way that it cannot be crushed, ripped out or
damaged by improper handling.
1. Guide the e-module over the axis, at the same time directing the positioning pin
into the adapter.
2. Tighten the screw.
3. Insert the flat ribbon cable into the socket as shown.
4. Close the locking tabs.

5. For information on installation with a wireless module, see Chapter Installing the
wireless module [}8.3.1].
6. Lay the flat ribbon cable in loops.
7. Align the cover as shown.
8. Carefully press the cover against the flat ribbon cable and housing.
9. Push the cover onto the e-module.
ðThe e-module has been closed.
10. Insert the battery, observing the correct polarity.
11. Push the knob over the e-module.
12. Tighten the screw.
13. Press the cover against the knob housing.
Note: Observe the position of the cover.
ðThe cover clicks into place.

5 Programming
This section describes how to program the components.
Prior to first use, all components must be programmed with the relevant access au-
thorisations for the user media. Components with a wireless function should be ac-
tivated in the system.
Manual programming using master media or the programmer 1460 is described in
the document Programming Kaba evolo components.
The process for setting up the wireless function is described in the handbook for the
relevant system software.
For mechatronic cylinders, user keys with a programmable clip are used for elec-
tronic identification instead of user media.
In order to enable access authorisation, the clips must be identified by the antenna.
All mechatronic cylinders can be directly programmed manually using the program-
ming media (A/B master or B master) or the programmer 1460 and the system soft-
ware.
To program and operate mechatronic cylinders, always briefly insert the program-
ming media and user keys into the cylinders.
5.1 Initial programming of MRD components
When first used, multi-RFID (MRD) components are set to the technology in which
the components are used with a master LEGIC® or MIFARE. The components then be-
have as defined for the authorisation types LEGIC (LEA) or MIFARE (MID).
Note: After an INI reset using master media, the components must then be re-pro-
grammed using a master LEGIC or MIFARE.
5.2 Initial programming of LEGIC® and MIFARE components
Prior to first use and on request, all components must be programmed with the ac-
cess authorisation corresponding to their User key. The access authorisations for User
key can be transferred to the components using various types of programming.
5.3 Master media
With the A and B master Key the components are programmed directly. The B mas-
ters are organised under an A master. The master media do not have any access au-
thorisations.

5.4 Programming with media
Mechatronic cylinders can also be programmed using media (cards). The medium is
held in front of the mechatronic cylinder in a special card holder for this purpose.

5.5 User media
All User key are organised under a B master.

NOTICE
Lost User key should be immediately blocked and deleted from all components.
(Delete lost User key in the KEM system software in the whitelist (add CardLink to the
blacklist) or delete all User key with the corresponding master and then re-program
all User key).
