Irregular running noise, significant vibration, overheating, imbalance or insufficient grip.

Damage from soiled and moist cooling air.
Contaminated and moist cooling air can cause malfunctions and lead to premature bearing
wear.

Make sure that the supply of cooling air is dry, clean and uncontaminated according to
ISO 7494-2.

Ensure that the water quality generally complies with ISO 7494-2. Permissible pH value 7.2 to
7.8.

The medical device should be cleaned, serviced and stored in a dry location, according to
instructions, before long periods of nonuse.
The following individuals are authorized to repair and service KaVo products:
▪ Technicians at KaVo branches throughout the world
▪ Technicians specially trained by KaVo
Safety 17
To ensure proper function, the medical device must be set up according to the reprocessing meth‐
ods described in the KaVo Instructions for Use, and the care products and care systems descri‐
bed therein must be used. KaVo recommends specifying a service interval at the dental office for
a licensed shop to clean, service and check the functioning of the medical device. This service
interval depends on the frequency of use and should be adjusted accordingly.
Service may only be carried out by KaVo-trained repair shops using original KaVo replacement
parts.

Purpose – Intended use
Purpose:
The motor is:
▪ an air motor intended to operate/drive a dental handpiece or contra-angle handpiece
▪ only for dental treatment by a dental professional. The product may not be changed or used
for any other purpose since this may be hazardous
▪ a medical device according to relevant national statutory regulations

According to these regulations, this medical device may only be used for the described application
by a knowledgeable user. The following must be observed:

Transportation and storage conditions
CAUTION
It is hazardous to start up the medical device after it has been stored strongly refrigerated.
This can cause the medical device to malfunction.

Prior to start-up, very cold products must be heated to a temperature of 20°C to 25°C
(68°F to 77°F).

4.1
Check the pressure
CAUTION
Compressed air connections on device.
Dirty and moist compressed air causes premature bearing wear.
▶
Ensure dry, clean and uncontaminated compressed air according to ISO 7494-2.

) between hose and motor and check the fol‐
lowing pressures:
- Drive pressure: 2.2 to 2.7 bar (32 to 39 psi) (recommended: 2.5 bar (36 psi))
- Air and water: 0.8 to 1.0 bar (12 to 15 psi)

Operation
Note
At the beginning of each workday, the water-conducting systems should be rinsed for at least 2
min. without the instrument being attached; if there is a risk of contamination from reflux or back
suction, the system must be rinsed for 20-30 seconds.

5.1
Connecting the drive motor to the supply hose
▶ Attach plug-in fitting to the motor connection and screw tight in clockwise direction using the
sleeve.

Details on the hose connection can be obtained from the manufacturer.

5.2
Regulating the spray water
CAUTION
Hazard from insufficient spray water.
Overheating of the medical device and damage to the tooth.
▶
Adjust the water amount for spray cooling, with the spray ring fully opened, to approx. 80
cm3/min.
▶
Comply with the settings recommended by the manufacturers.

▶ Rotate the spray tap of the hose or device to adjust the water portion of the spray.
5.3
Attaching attachment instruments to the drive motor
All straight and contra-angle handpieces with INTRAmatic connection ISO 3964 can be attached.

Only use reliable handpieces.

▶ Attach the KaVo instrument to the motor until it locks in place.
▶ Pull on it to make sure that the instrument is securely attached to the motor.

5.4
Removing the attachment instrument from the drive motor
▶ Pull the instrument off the motor in axial direction through a slight rotating motion.
5.5
Regulating the speed and changing the direction of rotation



▶ Rotate the regulating sleeve to regulate between idle ② in clockwise rotation ① or counter‐
clockwise rotation ③ and maximal speed in a continuous manner.

Troubleshooting
6.1
Check for malfunctions at initial startup
CAUTION
Missing or damaged O-rings.
Malfunctions and premature failure.

Make sure that all O-rings are on the coupling and undamaged.

Stop working if the O-ring is missing or damaged.
The motor runs too hot under load:
▶ Also check the handpiece.
When the speed drops or is uneven:
▶ Check the hose connection.

Troubleshooting: Exchanging the O-rings
CAUTION
Vaseline, oils or other greases.
This can cause malfunctions.

Do not use Vaseline, oils or other greases on this medical device.

The O-rings on the motor attachment may only be lubricated with a cotton ball which has been
wetted with KAVO Spray.
▶ Press the O-rings between your fingers to form a loop.
▶ Slide the O-rings forwards and remove them.

Preparation methods according to ISO 17664
7.1
Preparation at the site of use
WARNING
Hazard from nonsterile products.
There is a risk of infection from contaminated medical devices.

Take suitable personal protective measures.
▶ Remove all residual cement, composite or blood without delay.

KaVo recommends the following products based on material compatibility. The microbiological ef‐
ficacy must be ensured by the disinfectant manufacturer.
▪ Mikrozid AF Liquid made by Schülke & Mayr
▪ FD 322 made by Dürr
▪ CaviCide made by Metrex
Consumables required:
▪ Cloths for wiping off the medical device.

tant to act according to the instructions of the disinfectant manufacturer.

The bearing sites of the INTRAmatic L motors are provided with a high-quality, lifelong lubrication.
Note
Excess fluids exiting the contra-angle handpiece (oil, cleanser or disinfectant) can penetrate the
motor and cause a malfunction. Please only care for all instruments according the care instruc‐
tions accompanying the instruments.
Note
KaVo only guarantees that its products will function properly when the care products used are
those listed as accessories, as they were tested for proper use on our products.

7.5.1
Care products and systems - Servicing: Care with KaVo Spray
KaVo recommends servicing the product after each time it is used, i.e. after each cleaning.
▶ Unscrew the motor from the hose.
▶ Cover the product with the Cleanpac bag.
▶ Use an appropriate cannula and apply spray into the larger of the two tubes for one second.

KaVo recommends servicing the product after each time it is used, i.e. after each cleaning.
▶ Unscrew the motor from the hose.

Warranty terms and conditions
The following warranty conditions apply to this KaVo medical device:
KaVo provides the end customer with a warranty of proper function and guarantees zero defects
in respect of material and processing for a period of 12 months from the date of the invoice, sub‐
ject to the following conditions:
In case of justified complaints, KaVo will honour its warranty with a free replacement or repair.
Other claims of any nature whatsoever, in particular with respect to compensation, are excluded.
In the event of default, gross negligence or intent, this shall only apply in the absence of mandato‐
ry legal regulations to the contrary.

KaVo shall not be liable for defects and their consequences that have arisen or may arise from
natural wear, improper handling, cleaning or maintenance, non-compliance with operating, main‐
tenance or connection instructions, calcination or corrosion, contaminated air or water supplies or
chemical or electrical factors deemed abnormal or impermissible in accordance with KaVo's in‐
structions for use or other manufacturer's instructions. The warranty granted does not usually ex‐
tend to lamps, light conductors made of glass and glass fibres, glassware, rubber parts, and the
colourfastness of plastic parts.
All liability is excluded if defects or their consequences originate from manipulations or changes to
the product made by the customer or a third party that is not authorised by KaVo.

Warranty claims will only be accepted if the product is submitted along with proof of purchase in
the form of a copy of the invoice or note of delivery. The dealer, purchase date, type, and serial
number must be clearly evident from this document.
