1. BEFORE OPERATION
TOPREVENT ELECTRIC SHOCK, FIRE ANDOTHERINJURY. PLEASE NOTETHEFOLLOWINGS:
Do not placethisunit,where it willbeexposed to
directsunlight or close to heatingappliances.
Do not placeanything ontopof thecabinet.
To ensuregoodventilation,do notput anything on
top ofthe cabinet and allow at least 15cm(6
inches) of space behind the unit.
Do not droppieces of metal,needles,coins and
otherelectricallyconductivematerials into the unit.
Do not touch the powerplug,whenyourhandsare
wet.
Do not pull the powercord,whendisconnecting it
from the ACwalloutlet. Grasp theplugandensure
thatyourfingers donot touch the livepins.
Do not place the unit in areas of excessive dust,
highhumidity or onunstable surfaces.
To avoidrisk of electricshock,under no circum-
stances shouldtheunitbeopened:
Ifanabnormalodor or smokeisdetected,immedi-
ately turn the power offand pull outthe power
plug.Contactthe KENWOOD service station or your
dealer.
CLEANING
1. Turn the power off, beforecleaning the unit.
2. Donot use any type of abrasivepad,thinner,
benzine or any substances whichmaydamage
theunit.
3. Wipe the front panelandotherexterior surfaces
of the unitwith a soft dry cloth ora softcloth
lightly moistenedwithwater.

Never connectACpowertotheDCPowerSupply
until installationiscomplete.
3-1. INSTALLATION
CAUTIONS
1. Priortoinstallation,checkthatthecorrectfuse
is installed.
2. Choosea locationthatisrelativelyfree from
vibration.
3. Donotplacethe unit ina placewhichis
exposed todirectsunlight,neara heater,etc.
4. Donotstoreorusethe unit ina dustylocation
orina moistatmosphere.Selecta well
ventilatedlocation.
5. Tomaintain good ventilation:
Remove thepackingmaterials.
Donotcoverthe unit.
Place the unit atleast10cm(4")away from
thewalls.

Prior toinstallation,checkthattheACVoltage
Selector onthesidepanelissettothecorrect
linevoltage.
AC VOLTAGE SELECTION
(WiththeEuropeandGeneralMarketsversion)
WhenchanginganACoperatingvoltage,selectthe
desired voltage with theselectorswitchlocatedon
thesidecover.Inthis case, thecorrectfusemustbe
installed, referringtoSection5-4. FUSE
REPLACEMENT.
3-2. CONNECTION
WARNING
Never connectACpowertotheDCPowerSupply
until installationiscomplete.
CAUTIONS
1. BeforeconnectingordisconnectingtheDC
Power Cable, besureto turn offthe POWER
switches of both theradioandtheDCPower
Supply.
2. ObservepolarityoftheDCPower Cable. The
radiooperateson13.8 VDC, negativeground.
NOTES
1. TheDCPowerSupplywillnotoperateifthe
output terminalsareshorted.
2. TheDCPowerSupplymaynotoperateifthe
POWER switchisturnedon with theradioin
transmitmodebecausetheprotectioncircuit
may operate.

theOutputTerminalsonthe Rear Panel, as
showninFig.3-1.

Power Supply POWER switchisturnedon.
2. Whencommunicationiscompletedfortheday,
turn offthe POWER switchesof both theradio
andtheDCPowerSupply.

Your DCPowerSupplyhasbeenfactoryadjusted
andtestedtospecificationsbeforeshipment.
Undernormalcircumstances,theDCPowerSupply
will operateinaccordance with theseoperating
instructions.Alladjustmentswerepresetatthe
factoryandshouldonlybereadjustedbya
qualifiedtechnician with propertestequipment.
Attempting serviceoradjustment without factory
authorizationcanvoidtheDCPowerSupply's
warranty.IfyourDCPowerSupplyfailstowork,
contacttheauthorizedKENWOODdealer from
whichyoupurchaseditforquick,reliablerepair.
NOTES
1. Whenclaimingwarranty service, pleaseinclude
a photocopy ofthe bill of sale, orother proof
ofpurchaseshowingthedateof sale.
2. RecordtheDateof Purchase, Serial Number
andDealer from whompurchased.
3. Foryourowninformation,retaina written
recordofanymaintenanceperformedonthe
unit.

afterextendeduse.Itshouldbecleaned with a
silicone cloth ora cleandrycloth.
CAUTION
Donotusevolatilesolventssuchasalcohol,paint
thinner,gasoline,benzine,etc.

Ifthefuseblows, DISCONNECT the AC PowerCable
andcontactandauthorizedKENWOODservice
facility;eitheryourKENWOODdealer,orthe
factorytorepairthe cause.
NOTE

KENWOOD servicefacility,orthefactory.
WARNING
1. NeverconnecttheACcabletotheAC outlet
until fusereplacementhasbeenmade.
2. Neverusea fuseofhigherrating. Replace with
a new fuseofthesamerating.
