These instructions should be read carefully and retained after installation by the end
user for future reference and maintenance.
These instructions should be used to aid installation of the following product:

INSTALLATION
• This product must be installed in accordance with the latest edition of the IEE Wiring Regulations
(BS7671) and current Building Regulations. If in any doubt, consult a qualified electrician
• Please isolate mains prior to installation or maintenance
• Check the total load on the circuit (including when this luminaire is fitted) does not exceed the
rating of the circuit cable, fuse or circuit breaker
• Please note the IP (Ingress Protection) rating of this product when deciding the location for
installation
• This product is Class II double insulated
• Provide power to the required point of installation
• Remove the top plate by inserting a screwdriver into the slots on the side (see Fig. 1)

INSTALLATION
•Provide power to the required point of installation
•Remove the top plate by inserting a screwdriver into the slots on the side (see Fig. 1)

•Mark the location of the fixing holes and drill the holes ensuring not to infringe with any gas/water pipes or
electrical cables
•Feed the mains cable through the cable entry hole on the top plate (see Fig. 2)
•Fix the luminaire to the surface using appropriate fixings

•Connect the mains cable into the push-fit terminal block ensuring correct polarity is observed: Live
(brown), Neutral (blue)

• For non-maintained operation, remove the 2-pin connector from the circuit board (see Fig. 3).
For maintained operation keep it in place. This fitting cannot be connected for switched-maintained
operation

•Ensure the battery is connected via the plug and socket to the PCB
•Refit the luminaire to the top cover ensuring all 4 lugs lock into place
•Switch on and check for correct operation, ensuring the green indicator LED is illuminated
See below for operation of the self-test function
We recommend, on commissioning the installation, a minimum charge period of 24 hours before carrying out an
emergency duration test
If the batteries have been left in a discharged state for an extended period, we recommend that one or more
charge and discharge cycles are completed which should help to restore the battery capacity
SELF-TEST FUNCTION
This product is programmed to carry out its own self-test function according to the following programme:
1. 24 hours after first power-on
3 hour duration test
2. then every 28 days
3. 30 second monthly function test
4. and every 52 weeks
5. 3 hour duration test
Following self-tests, the unit will go back into charging mode, and any faults will be indicated by the bi-colour LED
indicator as follows:

NB: power should be cut off and restored to the unit to clear a fault indication once the condition is rectified
Tests can also be initiated manually as follows:

WARNING
This product must be disconnected from the circuit if subjected to any high voltage or insulation resistance
testing. Irreparable damage will occur if this instruction is not followed
GENERAL
The LED lamps fitted in this product are non-replaceable. The unit should be recycled in the correct manner
when it reaches the end of its life. Check local authorities for where facilities exist

The batteries in this luminaire are Nickel Cadmium and must be disposed of correctly. Please contact the local
authorities for the disposal of this toxic waste.
Clean with a soft dry cloth only, do not use aggressive cleaning products or solvents which may damage the
product
This product is non-dimmable
This product has a warranty of 3 years (excluding battery) from date of purchase. Failure to install this product
in accordance with the current edition of the IEE Wiring Regulations (BS7671), improper use, or removal of
the batch codes will invalidate the warranty. If this product should fail within its warranty period it should be
returned to the place of purchase for a free of charge replacement. ML Accessories does not accept responsibility
for any installation costs associated with the replacement product. Your statutory rights are not affected. ML
Accessories reserve the right to alter product specification without prior notice.

TEST RECORD
Recommended routine test procedure in accordance with BS5266:
• Daily check – check status of bi-colour LED indicator
• Monthly functional test - simulate a mains supply failure for approx. 30 seconds by operation of key switch,
switching off circuit breaker or using test button. Ensure normal supply is restored after test and check status
of bi-colour LED indicator
• Annual three hour duration test - simulate a mains supply failure for three hour continuous test by
operation of key switch, switching off circuit breaker or using test button. Ensure normal supply is restored
after test and check status of bi-colour LED indicator
If the luminaire fails any of the above tests, please contact a qualified electrician. See below for test record sheet
