Exercise 1. K-Safe System Overview
Objective: To be familiar with the overview of the K-Safe system. Use
KFDD from Home Image
Fire & Gas
1. What is minimum SIL level requirements for the F&G system?
2. Where is The F&G System controlled and monitored from?
3. Is it possible to start the Fire Pumps from the CAAP panel?
4. There are two Fire Pump systems in your vessel. Will it reduce your
capacity of the Fire water demand if only one Fire Pump system is
operational?
5. What is the purpose of the jockey pumps?
6. Which redundancy type does the F&G system use?
7. What is the purpose of Redundancy Deviation or Discrepancy alarm?
8. If both RCU’s in a redundant pair stops, all outputs will go to safe
position. What will be the Fail Safe effect for the Fire Pumps?
9. An I/O Failure alarm is a system alarm. What Alarm colour is used?

Exercise 2. K-Safe Familiarization
1. Open Safety Main Image.
Remove all inhibit and override in the F&G system by using the
Remove Inhibit/Override F&G button on F&G Main view.
2. Start with the Safety Main view, and navigate to level 2 on the Drill
Floor F&G L2 – Drill Floor. From this view navigate to D31 – Drill Floor
– Derrick-Fwd-Port.
Open Cause and Effect diagram for fire zone D31 and find all
detectors that can give confirmed Hydrocarbon (HC) gas detection in
this fire zone.
3. Verify all these HC detectors for fire zone D31 in the Image.
4. What will be the effect if the detector GDF-092204 is activated? Use
the test functionality.
5. Are the effects different for cause 1 & 2?
6. Explain the difference between the ‘4’ and the ‘X’ in the diagram.
7. Which amounts of Manual Call Points (MCP) are there in fire zone
D31?

ESD/PSD Navigation/Operation
8. From the ESD Main, left click on ESD1 and go to Online C&E.
9. Use test button on the cause line for ESD Activated from Wheel
House. Close the Online C&E.
10. Open C&E for ESD3.3. Why are these effects green?
11. Press Test off in ESD1.
12. Test of ESD Activated from Wheel House. Left click on ESD1 and go
to Online C&E.
13. Left click on cause line for ESD Activated from Wheel House, and
Activate (Requires Power User login). Why are some effects blinking?

Exercise 3. K-Safe Operations
Objective: To be familiar with the operation of Fire & Gas system
1. Activate the “A” button located under K-Safe in SimPage, and
navigate to F&GL1 Fire & Gas Main image
2. You got an alarm. Identify priority, detector type and location of the
equipment that is causing the alarm.
3. What indication is there on the F&G Level 1 & 2 views?
4. What is the name of the affected fire zone?
5. What is the tag name of the triggered detector(-s)
6. What indication is there on the detector in L3 and in the C&E
diagram?
7. The situation is solved after some time, and you need to normalize
the K-Safe. What will be your action, and in which order?

8. In this scenario, could an operator intervention have avoided the

Exercise 4. Inhibit/Override Operation
Objective: To be familiar with how to inhibit/override operation
1. Find tag FAH-091569. Inhibit the sensor. (Requires Power User login)
2. How is this indicated on the FG Level 3 view? What about Levels 1 &
2?
3. How is this indicated on the Online Cause & Effect?
4. Activate the sensor by activation of the “B” button located under K-
Safe in SimPage. Which symbol on FG Level 1 & 2 is active?
5. Have the effects been activated?
6. Now override Trip Incinerator(effect No 37).
7. Remove the inhibit on the sensor. What happens?
8. Why do we have an Activation Conflict alarm?
9. Acknowledge the alarm, remove all the inhibit/override, and reset all
outputs.
10. Any other action needed to return to normal operation?

Exercise 5. Inhibit/Activate Operation
1. Inhibit smoke detector SD-095835.
2. How is inhibit indicated on the Online Cause & Effect Diagram?
3. For smoke detectors, should we inhibit on the cause tag or field tag?
4. Inhibit cause line number 23. Activate the same tag. Why do we have
a shutdown?
5. Deactivate the cause line. Navigate to FG Main.
6. Press Remove All F&G Inhibits/Overrides. What happens?

1. Activate of the “C” button located under K-Safe in SimPage.
2. Trace the alarm to the detector and the corresponding Cause &
Effect.
3. What consequences will this problem have to the voting philosophy?
Ref. Safety KFDD.
4. How many flame detectors belongs to this Fire zone?
5. Verify this number and identify the detectors in F&GL3 images.
6. Normalize K-Safe and activate the “C” button from question 1 once
more.

Exercise 7. ESD Operation
Objective: To be familiar with ESD mimic and operation
1. Open the ESDQ1 Cause & Effect from ESD Main image.
2. How many ESD causes will activate 812F1 Trip Feeder to HVAC
EM’CY MCC Section (effect 19)?
3. Click on ‘F’ for ESD Activated from Wheel House.
4. How many Pushbuttons are needed to activate effects?
5. Activate the Pushbuttons by activation of the “D” button located
under K-Safe in SimPage. What is the indication on ESD Main?
6. Why are there shutdowns in F&G system?Acknowledge ESD alarms
8. Reset the ESD.
9. Normalize the F&G.Reopen the Cause & Effect for ESDQ1. Click on
‘L” for cause line number 6 to go to ESD1 Cause & Effect.
11. What is the effect number of ESD1 that activate ESDQ1?
12. Activate this effect. What happens?
13. Perform all the necessary operations to normalize.

1. Activate the Pushbuttons by activation of the “E” button located
under K-Safe in SimPage.
2. Trace the alarm to the detector and the corresponding Cause &
Effect.
3. What is the indication on the detector and in the C&E diagram?
4. What are the alarm settings for High and High High Alarms?
5. Use the Cause and Effect diagram to find which detectors that can
give a Confirmed HC gas alarm in this Fire Zone.
6. What happens in the C&E diagram?
7. The Confirmed Gas alarm activated effects for Non-Hazardous Area.
Click on ‘L’, and see more effects of the alarm.
8. Which Cause & Effect is activated?
9. How many other Connected Levels(Fire zones) can activate this
cause line(Low/High HC Gas in Non-Haz Area(Cause 20)?
