1 General
1.1 Principles
This operating manual is supplied as an integral part of the type series and variants
indicated on the front cover. The manual describes the proper and safe use of this
equipment in all phases of operation.
The name plate indicates the type series, the main operating data and the serial
number. The serial number uniquely describes the system and is used as identification
in all further business processes.
In the event of damage, immediately contact your nearest KSB service centre to
maintain the right to claim under warranty.
1.2 Target group
This operating manual is aimed at the target group of trained and qualified specialist
technical personnel.

2.2 General
This operating manual contains general installation, operating and maintenance
instructions that must be observed to ensure safe operation of the system and
prevent personal injury and damage to property.
The safety information in all sections of this manual must be complied with.
The operating manual must be read and understood by the responsible specialist
personnel/operators prior to installation and commissioning.
The contents of this operating manual must be available to the specialist personnel
at the site at all times.
Instructions/information attached directly to the control unit must be observed at all
times and kept in a perfectly legible condition. This applies to, for example:
▪Markings for connections
▪Name plate
The operator is responsible for ensuring compliance with all local regulations not
taken into account in this operating manual.
2.3 Intended use
The values specified in the technical product literature for the mains voltage, mains
frequency, ambient temperature and motor current must not be exceeded. The
control unit must only be operated in accordance with the instructions provided in
the operating manual and the other applicable documents.

2.4 Personnel qualification and personnel training
All personnel involved must be fully qualified to install, operate, maintain and
inspect the equipment this manual refers to. The responsibilities, competence and
supervision of all personnel involved in installation, operation, maintenance and
inspection must be clearly defined by the operator.
Deficits in knowledge must be rectified by means of training and instruction
provided by sufficiently trained specialist personnel. If required, the operator can
commission the manufacturer/supplier to train the personnel.
Training on the control unit must always be supervised by specialist technical
personnel.
2.5 Consequences and risks caused by non-compliance with this manual
▪Non-compliance with this operating manual will lead to forfeiture of warranty
cover and of any and all rights to claims for damages.
▪Non-compliance can, for example, have the following consequences:
–Hazards to persons due to electrical, thermal, mechanical and chemical
effects and explosions
–Failure of important product functions
–Failure of prescribed maintenance and servicing practices
–Hazard to the environment due to leakage of hazardous substances
2.6 Safety awareness
In addition to the safety information contained in this manual and the intended use,
the following safety regulations shall be complied with:

3.1 Checking the condition upon delivery
1. On transfer of goods, check each packaging unit for damage.
2. In the event of in-transit damage, assess the exact damage, document it and
notify KSB or the supplying dealer (as applicable) and the insurer about the
damage in writing immediately.
3.2 Transport
The control unit must be shut down for transport.

CAUTION
Improper transport
Damage to the control unit!
▷The control unit must always be transported properly and in its original
packaging.
▷For transport observe the transport instructions on the original packaging.
▷Do not throw the control unit.
1. Upon receipt, unpack the control unit and check for in-transit damage.
2. Report any in-transit damage to the manufacturer immediately.
3. Dispose of packaging material in accordance with local regulations.
3.3 Storage
If the ambient conditions for storage are met, the function of the control unit is
safeguarded even after a prolonged period of storage.
CAUTION
Damage during storage by humidity, dirt or vermin
Corrosion/contamination of the control unit!
▷For outdoor storage cover the (packed or unpacked) control unit and
accessories with water-proof material.

▪Store the control unit in dry, vibration-free conditions and, if possible, in its
original packaging.
▪Store the control unit in a dry room where the atmospheric humidity is as
constant as possible.
▪Prevent excessive fluctuations in atmospheric humidity (see table Ambient
conditions for storage).
If properly stored indoors, the equipment is protected for a maximum of 12 months.

NOTE
Due to certain components it contains, the device is classified as special waste and
meets RoHs 2011/65/EC requirements.
Once decommissioned, the device must be properly disposed of in accordance with
local regulations.

5.1 Safety regulations
DANGER
Incorrect installation
Danger to life!
▷The control unit must be installed in a flood-proof location.
▷Never install the control unit in potentially explosive atmospheres.
▷The control unit is not suitable for controlling pumps in potentially explosive
atmospheres.
▷Integration in external control system: observe the directives for low-voltage
switchgear and controlgear assemblies.
5.2 Checks to be carried out prior to installation
The place of installation must fulfil the following requirements:
▪Dry
▪Frost-proof
▪Well ventilated
▪Lockable; unauthorised access must be prevented.
▪Flood-proof
▪Installation in potentially explosive atmospheres is not permitted.
Ambient conditions
The ambient conditions specified in the following table must be observed:

5.3 Installing the control unit
The control unit must be handled with care to prevent damage to the components.
üThe place of installation fulfills the requirements described above.
1. Remove the control unit from its original packaging.
2. Install the control unit on a stable base (e.g. wall, bracket, etc.).
5.4 Electrical connection

Unintentional contact with live parts
Danger of death from electric shock!
▷De-energise the mains connection.
▷Take steps to ensure that the mains connection cannot be re-energised
unintentionally.

CAUTION
Improper electrical connection
Damage to the control unit/control cabinet!
▷Check the type of current and voltage of the mains.
▷Observe the wiring diagrams.
üThe mains voltage matches the rated voltage specified on the name plate.
1. Route the cables through the cable glands.
2. Make sure that the seals are properly positioned and tighten the cable glands
(strain relief).
3. Connect the control unit in accordance with the wiring diagram.
4. Set the motor protection switch to the rated current.
5. For three-phase motors, connect the power cable available on site so as to
ensure a clockwise rotating field.
6. For single-phase AC motors, ensure that phase and neutral are connected
correctly.
CAUTION
Technical pump data not taken into account
Damage to the control unit!
▷Connect only pumps with technical data (particularly rated current) that
matches this control unit.
Observe the following for the electrical connection:
▪Wiring in accordance with circuit diagram
▪Float switch settings in accordance with circuit diagram
▪Connect thermal circuit breaker to the corresponding pump cable cores.
For pumps without thermal circuit breaker, the relevant terminals in the control
unit must be bridged.

6.1 Prerequisites for commissioning/start-up
Before commissioning/starting up the pump set, make sure that the following
conditions are met:
▪All relevant VDE standards and/or regulations applicable in the country of use are
complied with.
▪The pump cable has been connected.
▪The thermal circuit breaker has been connected.
▪The power cable has been connected correctly (clockwise rotating field for three-
phase motors).
▪The float switch has been connected.
6.2 Commissioning
▪Set the manual-0-automatic selector switch to “0”.
▪Compare the setting of the motor protection relay with the rated current of the
motor and adjust, if necessary.
▪Set the motor protection relay to “I”.
▪Energise by switching the site-supplied fusing (e.g. automatic circuit breaker)
“ON”.
▪Check the pumps’ direction of rotation if three-phase motors are used.
To do so, briefly set the manual-0-automatic selector switch to “H” (manual) –
only if the liquid level is above the start-up level.
▪Comply with the operating manual of the respective pump.
6.2.1 Level-dependent control
The pump is started and stopped via a float switch or level transmitter.
The switching level must be set on site. Set the height at which the float switch cable
is fastened to the discharge line, handle or other suitable points. Set the free cable
length of the float switch.
The free cable length of the float switch should not be shorter than 10cm measured
from the antikink bush in order to ensure correct switching even with a cold, stiff
cable. The pump is started at an upward slant of the float housing of approx. 30°,
and stopped at a downward slant of 30°. The switching points are indicated by a
clearly audible switching noise in the float housing. The minimum switching
difference is approx. 40cm. When setting the switching levels, ensure that the pump
stops before the water level drops to the foot’s suction openings.
The pump must start up before the water level reaches the upper sump edge.
The float switch must neither come to rest on the floor nor bump against the sump
cover, if any. Make sure that the float cannot get caught on any projecting parts, juts
or similar in the sump.
6.2.2 Functional description
▪The manual-0-automatic switch switches the motor on and off.
Position Function
Manual When the switch is set to “manual”, the motor is switched on
manually.
0 Motor off.
Automatic Float switch switches the motor on and off.
Emptying a tank/pit
The float switch contact closes in the upper float position.
The pump is started and stopped as a function of the liquid level.
If the fluid handled reaches the start-up level of the float switch, the pump is started
up.

The fluid handled is pumped off until the stop level of the float switch is reached.
When the switch is set to “manual” mode, the pump can be started up directly.
However, this should be done only above the stop level and for short periods, e.g.,
for checking the direction of rotation.
Otherwise, the switch should always be set to “automatic” when the unit is started
up.
6.2.3 Manual mode
The “manual” mode ensures that the pump can still be started and stopped manually
if the control unit should fail.
The system should be operated in the “manual” switch position only in emergencies
(e.g., high water, fire-fighting water) or during commissioning (e.g. for checking the
direction of rotation).
CAUTION
Pump started up in manual mode below start-up level
Damage to the pump!
▷Operate the pump in manual mode only if the water level is above the start-up
level.
6.3 Shutdown
DANGER
Unintentional contact with live parts
Danger of death from electric shock!
▷De-energise the mains connection.
▷Take steps to ensure that the mains connection cannot be re-energised
unintentionally.
▪Set manual-0-automatic selector switch to “0”.
▪Before opening the control cabinet and the motor terminal box, make sure to
de-energise the system.
▪Set motor protection switch to “0”.
▪Use a voltmeter to verify that all phases are actually dead before commencing
any work at the control cabinet.
6.4 Returning to service
▪Set the manual-0-automatic selector switch to “0”.
▪Compare the setting of the motor protection relay with the rated current of the
motor and adjust, if necessary.
▪Turn on the power supply.
▪Verify the direction of rotation.
To do so, briefly set the manual-0-automatic selector switch to “H” (manual) –
only if the liquid level is above the start-up level.
▪Comply with the operating manual of the respective pump.

Improper work to remedy faults
Risk of injury!
▷For any work to remedy faults observe the relevant information in this manual
or in the relevant accessory manufacturer's product literature.
If problems occur that are not described in the following table, consultation with the
KSB customer service is required.
APump is running, but does not deliver
