INTRODUCTION
This manual is intended forservicing LABORIE’sUrocap™IV Light System that
collectsdatafromtheUroflowtransducer.Theinformationlocatedin this
manual is intended for the biomedical departments of hospitals or clinics.

Upon request, LABORIE will make available any circuit diagrams, component

CLASSIFICATIONS
IEC 60601-1:
The system is connected to the mains via an external
power supply unit (PSU) and is classified as Class 1,
portable equipment with no patient applied parts and
intended for continuous operation. Alternately the
system can be powered via its internal battery pack
and classified as internally powered equipment.

according to degree of protection against ingress of
water and particulate matter as per the test
requirements of IEC 60529. With this IP (International
Protection) rating, it means that the Urocap IV
uroflowmeter enclosure:
• Protects users using tools 1.0 mm or larger from
accessing hazardous parts, and protects equipment
from ingress of dust (signified by the rating code 5).
• Protects equipment from the harmful effects of
water splashing from any direction (signified by the
ratingcode4).
NOTE:Ifapplicabletoyoururoflowmetermodel, the
IP rating will be visible onthe device label.

EQUIPMENT SETUP
TheUrocapIV,thebeaker,thecommodechair,andthefunnelcanbeset up in
one room while the mobile device and printer can be in another room
collecting and printingdata

If applicable, set up the Urocap IV (A), the commode (B), the mobile device
(C)and the printer (D)as shown. Keep the distance between the Urocap IV and the
mobile device and the distance between the mobile device to wireless
printer to less than 10 meters (33feet).
The maximum distance between the Urocap IV and an electrical outlet
is 5 meters (17 feet); the maximum distance between the mobile
device and an electrical outlet is 3 meters (10 feet); and the maximum
distance between the wireless printer and an electrical outlet
is 2 meters (6 feet).

CALIBRATION
Calibration can be performed using a static weight or by pouring water into a
beaker.
1. Plug the Urocap IV into the charger and plug the charger into an outlet if the
battery is not fullycharged.
2.
Tap Device Options then tap
Calibration.
3. Tap the calibration option icon (weight or water) to startcalibration.
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the calibration.

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
Attimes,theUrocapIVwillbecomedirtyduetourinecontaminationand cleaning
isrequired.Alwayswearprotectivegloveswhencleaningthe equipment to
prevent biologicalcontamination.
DO NOT SOAK THE UROCAP IV IN WATER! DO NOT IMMERSE IN
WATER OR IN ANY OTHER LIQUIDS!
• The Urocap IV Uroflowmeter has a
rating of IP54 for ingress of water. This
means that the enclosure of the
Uroflowmeter is able to handle splashes
of water and liquid fromany direction,
but it is not protected against total
immersion into water or any other
liquids. Never soak or immerse the
Urocap IV into water or any other
liquids.
• The lid of the Urocap IV is not removable and attention must be paid to
prevent damage to the lid.
• The Urocap IV should be cleaned using a damp cloth with alcohol, soap, or
disinfectant detergent.

• The unit should be stored in a cool and dry area at room temperature.

• The Uroflow beaker should be rinsed and dried after use. Soap and water,
or a mild detergent solution, can be used for cleaning.
Althoughthebeakerisreusable,itwilldiscolorovertimeand may need
to bereplaced.
• The chair, Flowstand, and funnel can be wiped clean with a cloth
dampened with soap or mild detergent and wiped dry immediately.
When cleaning the funnel the maximum cleaning
temperature should not exceed 80°C (176°F).
• Performing regular maintenance will reduce the need for costly repairs.
Check the transducer calibration of the Urocap IV every 6 months or
whenever you suspect the transducer is offcalibration.
• Pay close attention to the LED lights on the device. If they indicate a
broken connection and/or low battery, then make sure that the
connection is re-established or the battery is fully charged. For
information on LED lights, refer to the owner’smanual.
• Refer to manufacturer’s instructions for cleaning and maintenance of the
mobile device.
BATTERY: CHARGING AND PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE
CHARGING THE BATTERY
• Lift the tab on the bottom of the Urocap IV to reveal the charging port (A).
• Plugoneendofthechargingpowersupplycordintothechargerporton the
bottom of the device and the other end into an electrical outlet.

• When the LED light on the device is green itis fully charged.

The equipment can still be used during charge time.
PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE
• Do not step on, drop, immerse in water, or puncture the battery. If
misuse, abuse, or damage is suspected, or any form of mechanical
damage to the casing is visible, then discontinue use and return the
battery to LABORIE.
• If a sudden change in the battery’s ability to hold a charge or a sudden
change in battery life time is noticed, discontinue use and return the battery
to LABORIE.
TREATING AND DISPOSING OF PRODUCT AFTER USE
• After use, discard any packaging according to your institution’s standard
operating procedures on medical waste handling.

• For end of battery life, disposal must be handled according to local
regulations.
• Forendoflifeproduct,wasteelectricalandelectronicequipmentshould be
collectedseparatelyandreturnedtothedesignatedlocalrecycling service.
• Packaging waste should be collected separately for available national
packaging collection and recyclingservices.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATION OF WASTE DISPOSAL
Due to the fact that the Urocap IV is designed to perform Uroflow studies, it is
important to dispose of waste (such as urine) properly to prevent environmental
pollution. The waste should be disposed of in such a way that will not pollute the
fresh water supply system —especially the drinking water system. Normally, this
is not an issue in areas that have proper sewage systems with water treatment
procedures. In this case, the most convenient way is to use these sewage
systems.
