Remote Switch Speed Control Units
The unit starts in turbo speed. As you rotate the knob clockwise the unit’s blower speed will
slow. To turn off: Turn counter clockwise until you hear a click. Note: blower normally takes 5-10
seconds to start rotating. Most times you will not need to run the LA2-RC2-Kitchen in turbo
mode. There is sufficient volume of air purification to run the unit at a slower speed with little
noise and still clean the room air sufficiently.
ABOUT Your LA2-RC2-Kitchen
The LA2-RC2-Kitchen air purifier was designed to provide long service. The unit was designed to
be easily repairable. The product warranty is 7 years but you can expect 15 or more years of
useful product life. The LA2-RC2-Kitchen is a heavy duty all air purifier. There are no circuit
boards. We use simple switches that if necessary are easy to replace.
Unpacking
Your LA2-RC2-Kitchen air purifier is shipped on a 26" x 26" pallet. If you ever need to ship your
air purifier back to the factory it MUST be shipped strapped to a pallet. The LA2-RC2-Kitchen was
designed to be easily repaired so it is unlikely to need to ship your unit back.
Care should be taken while unpacking the MAX Guard. The unit is quite heavy and the box
should be placed in the upright position. It may be necessary to slice the corners of the box if you
are unable to lift the unit out.
It is a good idea to get help from another person while removing the unit from the box. Place the
air purifier on a flat surface. The LA2-RC2-Kitchen is a high-volume air purifying system and can
clean the air in a large area. However, to clean the air, the air must get to the unit. Unit location
will be best if the product is close to the origin of kitchen odors, smoke and fumes. The next best
option would be to locate the unit in the center of the room. When choosing your best location
be sure to allow for easy access to the filter access door. If you can't put the unit is an ideal
location the use of an additional fan to move the air in the space may be helpful.
Mounting LA2-RC2 Kitchen
The LA2-RC2 was designed with 4 mounting holes on
the top and the bottom of the unit. LakeAir provides
eye bolts with the units so they may be hung by chains
from supporting beams on the ceiling.
If you choose the optional wall mount for the LA2-RC2,
see the instruction sheet included with the Model
101091 Wall Mount. To mount using the included eye
bolts, follow the instructions below. The unit may be
hung so the air flow is from the left to the right, or from
the right to the left depending on the needs of the
customer.
shipped with eye bolts for this type of mounting. Be sure to leave enough
room under the unit for people to move through the space without danger of
hitting it.

Wiring For Remote Switch
The LA2-RC2 is controlled by a variable speed control potentiometer. (Note the LA2-RC2 must
be wired with the potentiometer for the unit to operate properly If the potentiometer is by-
passed the unit warranty is voided) The on board part of this wiring is held in a junction box on
the side of the unit. this wire can be accessed by unscrewing to cover plate. There is a knock
out for wire connection on the access plate.
The wire coming from the unit (unless ordered with on-board speed control) has 6 conductors.
You can purchase more wire from LakeAir if needed. This wire should be of sufficient gauge for
run lengths under 40 feet.
6 conductor wire can now be run from the junction box to a standard gang box where the unit
control is going to be located (see image) below.
Wiring with on board Potentiometer
If you ordered your unit with the potentiometer the LA2-RC2has an 8’ cord. It is the
responsibility of the purchaser to provide adequate outlet which meets local codes. An
approved extension cord may be used if it meets local and national codes.

Getting to Know your LA2-RC2-Kitchen
All LA2-RC2-Kitchen filter package include a pre filter, grease filter, electrostatic filter cell and
carbon filter. It is important to regularly inspect, clean and replace filters as needed. Failure
to do so may lead to poor unit performance and voiding of the product warranty. The Blowers
in this unit depend on air flow to keep the cool. Insufficient air flow may cause the motor
bearings to over heat and fail. The Blowers are rated for 60,000 hours of normal use. Proper
maintenance can greatly extend the blower life.
Maintenance
Your LakeAir Air Cleaner is a high quality, precision piece of equipment designed for many
years of satisfactory performance. Adhere to a regular maintenance schedule and no
problems should occur. This unit should be checked regularly for grease accumulation and
electrostatic cell deposits. It should be cleaned if found to have a large accumulation of
grease, dust and lint. Under regular commercial Kitchen use this model should be cleaned
every 4-6 weeks. The prefilter, grease filter and electrostatic cell should be washed. This can
be done by soaking in a solution of very hot water and a degreaser. They can also be safely
cleaned in a commercial or home dishwasher. Be sure the filters have dried before reinserting
into the unit.
Under normal conditions the carbon filter should be replaced every 2-4 months. When odors
are no longer being removed, it is time to replace the carbon filter. When used in a smoky
environment the LA2-RC2-Kitchen filters should be serviced more often.
Operation
Once the unit is plugged in or appropriately wired. The unit is turned on with the Potentiometer knob. Turn the
knob clockwise. At the beginning you should hear and or feel a click. This is the unit turning on. The
Potentiometer has 2 functions. the first click is on and off. The rest of the travel in the knob is speed control.
Immediately after the click is Turbo speed setting. As you continue to turn the knob clockwise the blower speed
will decrease. An important thing to remember is that the blowers on low are very quiet and the blower take 15-25
seconds before starting.
The carbon filter is located directly behind the main filter. To remove the carbon filter, put your
fingers on the lip of the filter and gently remove the filter with a side-to-side motion. Note: The
lip is metal and may be a bit sharp use caution not to cut yourself while removing. In an UVGI
unit the carbon filter is incorporated into the UVGI chamber. You should never run the UVGI
filter without a carbon filter both in front and back of the UVGI element.

Filter Removal and Installation
The pre filter is the first of 3 filters used in the LA2-RC2-Kitchen. The pre filter removes
large particles from the air stream. It also extends the life of the main filter. The pre
filters rating is MERV 2 and its Part# is 490051. The pre filter is mounted closest to the air
in take. This filter slides out
The grease filter (part# 499330) is next in line moving back from the intake towards the
blowers. This filter uses baffles to trap grease that is suspended in the air. This filter is held
in snugly but will slide out as well. This filter should be checked regularly for grease build
up.
The 3rd filter in the air purification line is the electrostatic cell. This filter is held in by a
screw that helps provide a ground for the filter and help it run efficiently. Always replace
the screw after washing this filter.
The 4th and final filter is the carbon filter. It is located directly behind the electronic filter.
To remove the carbon filter, put your fingers on the lip of the filter and gently remove the
filter. Note: The lip is metal and may be a bit sharp use caution not to cut yourself while
removing the carbon filter

Filter cleaning and replacement recommendations.
Electrical Arcing
All electronic air cleaners undergo a process known as “arcing” from time to time. It is a snapping
noise that comes from the electronic cell when very large particles enter into collection cell or
when the cells are wet or extremely dirty. If an unusual amount of arcing persists, check the
collecting cells for broken wires, bent plates, or to see if they are very dirty. If arcing still occurs,
check with your service person or dealer.
Constant Arcing
From time to time it is possible to come across a situation where the electrostatic cell arcs
continuously. In most case this is a dirty cell. However it is possible that a deposit may build up on
a cell plate that is not easily removed by cleaning. In some cases a micro-bur can work itself up
from the metal of the cell plate. IF this happens you will need to remove the deposit or bur. This
can be done easily by first locating the plate where the deposit has formed. After you have
determined where the arcing is occurring, the deposit can be removed with a common emery
board. Lightly sand the edge of the cell plate in the area where the arcing is occurring. It may take
a couple tries to fully remove the bur. If you would like to view a video on the topic you can find it
