InstallingthedevicedriveronWindowsoperatingsystems
ToinstallthedevicedriverontheWindows7orWindows8.1operatingsyste,dothefollowing:
1.Gotohttp://www.lenovo.co/support/docksandselectThinPadUSB3.0UltraDoc.
2.Locateanddownloadtheinstallationfileforthedevicedriver.
3.Double-clicktheinstallationfile,andthenfollowtheinstructionsonthescreentocopletethe
installation.
4.Restartyourcoputerafterthecopletionessageisdisplayed.
Afteryouhaveinstalledthedevicedriver,youcanconnecttheultradocktoyournotebookcoputer.
Connectingtheultradoctoyournoteboocomputer
Thissectionprovidesinforationonhowtoconnecttheultradocktoyournotebookcoputerwiththe
providedpoweradapter,powercord,andUSB3.0cable.
Note:Installthedevicedriverbeforeyouconnecttheultradocktoyournotebookcoputer.

ThissectionprovidesinstructionsonhowtouninstallthedevicedriverfroWindowsoperatingsystes.
TouninstallthedevicedriverfrotheWindows7orWindows8.1operatingsyste,dothefollowing:
FortheWindows7operatingsystem:
1.Exitallapplicationsthatusetheprodock.
2.ClickStart➙AllPrograms➙LenovoUSBDisplay➙Uninstall.
3.Followtheinstructionsonthescreentouninstallthedevicedriver.
4.Ifnecessary,restartyourcoputer.
FortheWindows8.1operatingsystem:
1.GotoControlPanelbydoingoneofthefollowing:
•Frothedesktop,ovethepointertothetop-rightorbotto-rightcornerofthescreentodisplay
thechars,andthenclickSettings➙ControlPanel.
•FrotheStartscreen,dothefollowing:
a.Clickthearrowiconinthebotto-leftcornerofthescreentogototheAppsscreen.
b.Scrolltotherightside,andclickControlPanelintheWindowsSystemsection.

WhenyouworkwithaThinkPadnotebookcoputer,anultradock,andanexternalonitortogether,you
canchoosetohanguptheultradockontheThinkCentreTinyL-BracketMountingKit(hereaftercalledL
Bracket).Itsavesspacefroyourworkareainthisway.
FororeinforationabouttheLBracketandthesupportedonitor,gotowww.lenovo.co/support/stands.
AligntheVESAountingholesintheultradockwiththecorrespondingtwoscrewsontheLbracket.Then
installtheultradockontotheLbracketverticallyasshown.

Usingtheultradoc
Thissectionprovidesinforationonhowtousetheheadsetandicrophonecobojack,GigabitEthernet
connector,DPoutputconnector,HDMIvideooutputconnector,USBconnectorsontheultradock
Theultradockexpandstheconnectioncapabilityofyournotebookcoputer.Youcanconnectdevicesto
theappropriateconnectorsontheultradockwhileyournotebookcoputerisstarted.Norallyitwilltake
severalsecondsforthenotebookcoputertorecognizenewdevices.
Theultradocksiplifiestheconnectionbetweenyournotebookcoputerandultipledevices.For
exaple,youcanconnecttheUSBdevicesandexternalonitorstotheultradockratherthanthenotebook
coputer.Whenyouwanttotakeyournotebookcoputeraway,youcandisconnectthenotebook
coputerfrotheultradockratherthanreovetheUSBdevicesandexternalonitors.Whenyoucoe
back,siplyconnectyournotebookcoputertotheultradocktoresueallpreviousconnectionsand
startworkingatonce.
Usingtheheadsetandmicrophonecomboconnector
Theheadsetandicrophonecoboconnectorontheultradockisa3.5icrophonecobinedstereo
line-outconnector.Itworksforthestandard3.5headset,icrophone,orspeaker.
Tousetheheadsetandicrophonecoboconnectorontheultradock,connectyourheadset,icrophone,
orspeakertotheheadsetandicrophonecoboconnector.

progra.

WhentheUSBdeviceiscorrectlyconnectedtoaUSBconnectorontheultradock,aninforationwindow
willbedisplayedintheWindowsnotificationarea,indicatingthattheUSBdevicehasbeenconnected
tothecoputer.

Bydefault,theAlwaysOnUSB3.0connector()enablesyoutochargesoeobiledigitaldevices
andsartphoneswhenyourcoputerisinthefollowingsituation:

Thissectionprovidesinforationaboutthevideooutputfunctionoftheultradockandinstructionsonhow
toworkwiththeultradockutility,whichenablesyoutoconfiguretheultradocktoyourneeds.
Understandingthevideooutputmodes
Theultradockworksinthefollowingthreevideooutputodes:

Bydefault,theultradockworksinextendode.Thefirsttieyouconnecttheultradocktoyournotebook
coputer,theresolutionofyournotebookcoputerandtheconnectedonitorwillbechangedtothe
default.Youcanconfigureyourresolutiontoyourneeds.
Extendmode
Whentheultradockisinextendode,itsplitsyourdisplayacrosstwoonitors.
Therearethreeoptionswhenyouareusingextendode:
•Extend:Whenyouselectthisoption,yournotebookcoputeronitorbecoesthepriarydisplayand
theexternalonitorbecoesthesecondarydisplay.Bydefault,theexternalonitordisplayisonthe
rightsideofthenotebookcoputeronitordisplay.
•ExtendTo:Whenyouselectthisoption,yournotebookcoputeronitorbecoesthepriarydisplay
andtheexternalonitorbecoesthesecondarydisplay.Youcangivetheonitoritsownfraebuffer
throughthesubenuoptionsRight,Left,Above,andBeloworthroughdragoperations.Thedisplay
spaceisacontinuousarea;therefore,windowsandobjectscanbeovedbetweendifferentdisplays.
•SetasMainMonitor:Whenyouselectthisoption,theexternalonitorbecoesthepriarydisplayand
thenotebookcoputeronitorbecoesthesecondarydisplay.
Inextendode,youcandraganddropwindowsfroonedisplaytotheother.Youalsocanincrease
yourproductivitybydoingthefollowing:
•Readinge-ailsononedisplayandopeningattachentsontheother
•Expandingaspreadsheetacrosstwodisplays
•Increasingyourworkareabyputtingallthepaletteandtoolbarsontheotherdisplaywhenyouare
doinggraphicsediting

Single-displaymode
Whentheultradockisinsingle-displayode,itenablesyoutoshowyourdesktopononlyonescreen.
Therearetwooptionswhenyouareusingsingle-displayode:
•NotebooMonitorOff:Whenyouselectthisoption,thedisplayofyournotebookcoputeronitor
turnsoffandthedisplayoftheexternalonitorturnson.
•Off:Whenyouselectthisoption,thedisplayoftheexternalonitorturnsoffandthedisplayofyour
notebookcoputeronitorturnson.However,otherfunctionssuchasaudio,Ethernet,andUSB
connectioncanstillworkthoughthedisplayisoff.
Toentersingle-displayode,dothefollowing:
1.ClicktheThinPadUSB3.0UltraDociconintheWindowsnotificationarea.Apop-upwindow
opens.
2.SelectThinPadUSB3.0UltraDoc➙NotebooMonitorOfforOff.

ultradockandtheonitor.
2.Thepowerandconnectionindicatoroftheultradocisnoton.
Ensurethatyouhavecorrectlyconnectedthepoweradaptertotheultradockandaworkingelectrical
outlet,andthatyouhavepressedthepowerbutton.Donotuseanypoweradapterotherthantheone
