USE RIGHT
TOOL. Don't force small tool or attachment todo thejob of a
heavy-dutytool. Don't usetoolfor purpose notintended; for example, don't
use circular saw for cutting tree limbs or logs.
DRESS PROPERLY. Don't wear looseclothing orjewelry. They canbe caught
in moving parts. Rubber gloves and non-skid footwear are recommended
when working outdoors. Wear protectivehair covering tocontain longhair.
USE SAFETY GLASSES. Also use face or dust mask
if cutting operation is
dusty.
DON'T ABUSE CORD. Nevercarry
tool by cord or yank it todisconnect from
receptacle. Keep cord from heat, oil, and sharp edges.
SECURE WORK. Use clamps or a vise to hold work.
It's safer than using
your hand and it frees both hands to operate tool.
DON'T OVERREACH. Keep proper footing and balance at all times.
MAINTAIN TOOLS WITH CARE. Keep tools sharp and clean for better and
safer performance. Follow instructions for lubricating and changing acces-
sories. Inspecttool cords periodicallyand
if damaged, haverepairedby autho-
rized service facility. Inspect extension cords periodically and replace if
damaged. Keep handles dry, clean, and free from oil and grease.

in use, before servicing, and when chang-
ing accessories, such as blades, bits, cutters.

VOLTAGE WARNING: Before connecting the tooltoa powersource (receptacle,
outlet, etc.) be sure the voltage supplied is the same as that specified on the
nameplate of the tool.
A power source with voltage greater than that specified
for the tool can result in SERIOUS INJURY tothe user - as well as damage to
the tool. If in doubt, DO NOT PLUG INTHE TOOL. Using a power source with
voltage less than the nameplate rating is harmful to the motor.
ADDITIONAL SAFETY RULES
1. Hold the tool firmly.
2. Do not leave the tool running. Operate the tool only when hand-held.
3. This tool has not been waterproofed, so do not use water on the workpiece
surface.

Installingor removingthe abrasive paper
CAUTION
:
Always be sure that the tool is switched off and unplugged before installingor removing
the paper.
When using the conventionaltype of abrasive paper (standardequipment)
:
Turn the clamp lever toopen the clamper. Insertthe paper end into the clamper, aligning
the holes in the paper with those in the pad. Then return the clamp lever to the original
position to secure the paper. Repeat the same processfor the other end of the tool, main-
taining the proper paper tension.
Conventional type
1- of abrasive paper
When using the Velcro type of abrasive
paper (optionalaccessory)
:
Remove all dirt or foreign matter from the
pad. Attach the paper to the pad, aligning
the holes in the paper with those in the
pad.
CAUTION
:
Always use Velcro type of abrasive papers.
Never use pressure-sensitiveabrasive paper.

Dustbag I
To install the dust bag, align the D mark
on the bag's entry port with the
0 mark
on the dust spout of the tool and fit the
entry port onto the dust spout. Then turn
the dust bag clockwise to secure
it in
place. For the best results, empty the dust
bag when
it becomes about half full. To re-
move the dust bag, follow the installation
procedures in reverse.

NOTE :
If you connect a Makitadust collector/vacuumcleaner to your sander, more efficient and
cleaner operationscan be performed.
Switch action
To start the tool, simply pull the trigger.
Release the trigger to stop. Forcontinuous
operation, pull the trigger and then push in
the lock button. To stop the tool from the
locked position, pull the trigger fully, then
release
it.
CAUTION :
Before plugging in the tool, always check
to see that the switch trigger actuates pro-
perly and returns to the "OFF" position
when released.
Front grip
The front grip position can be changed in
90' increments. Pull the front grip and
rotate
it tothe desired position.

Operation
Turn the tool on and wait until
it attains
full speed. Then gently place the tool on
the workpiece surface. Keep the base flush
with the workpiece
at all times. Apply
slight pressure only. Excessive pressure
may damage the paper and shorten
tool
life.
CAUTION
:
Never runthe tool without paper. You may seriously damage the pad.
MAINTENANCE
CAUTION :
Always be sure that the tool is switched off and unpluggedbefore attempting to perform
inspection or maintenance.
To maintain product SAFETY and RELIABILITY, repairs, carbon brush inspection and
replacement, any other maintenance or ajustement should be performed by Makita
Authorized or Factory Service Centers, always using Makita replacementparts.

Every Makita tool is thoroughly inspectedand tested before leavingthe factory. It is warranted to
be free of defects from workmanshipand materials for the period of ONE YEAR from the date of
