STORE IDLETOOLS. Whennot

DON'T FORCETOOL.
It will dothejob better and safer at the ratefor which
it was intended.
USE RIGHT TOOL. Don't force small tool or attachment to do the job of a
heavy-duty tool. Don't use tool for purpose not intended.
DRESS PROPERLY. Don't wear looseclothingor jewelry. They can becaught
in moving parts. Rubber gloves and non-skid footwear are recommended
when working outdoors. Wear protective hair covering tocontain long hair.
USE SAFETY GLASSES. Also use face or dust mask if cutting operation is
dusty.
DON'T ABUSE CORD. Never carry tool by cordor yank
it todisconnect from
receptacle. Keep cord from heat, oil, and sharp edges.
SECURE WORK. Use clamps or a vise to hold work. It's safer than using
your hand and
it frees both hands to operate tool.
DON'T OVERREACH. Keep proper footing and balance at all times.
MAINTAIN TOOLS WITH CARE. Keeptools sharp and clean for better and
safer performance. Follow instructionsfor lubricating and changing acces-
sories. Inspecttoolcords periodicallyand ifdamaged, haverepairedby autho-
rized service facility. Inspect extension cords periodically and replace
if
damaged. Keep handles dry, clean, and free from oil and grease.
DISCONNECTTOOLS. Whennot
in use, beforeservicing, and when chang-
ing accessories, such as blades, bits, cutters.

14. REMOVE ADJUSTING KEYS AND WRENCHES. Form habit of checking to
see that keysandadjusting wrenches are removed from tool before turning
it on.
15. AVOID UNINTENTIONALSTARTING. Don't carry plugged-intoolwithfinger
on switch. Be sure switch is
OFF when plugging in.
16. OUTDOOR USEEXTENSIONCORDS. Whentoolis usedoutdoors, use only
extension cords intended for use outdoors and
so marked.
17. STAY ALERT. Watch what youare doing, use commonsense. Don't operate
tool when you are tired.
18. CHECK DAMAGED PARTS. Before further use of the tool, a guard or other
part that
is damaged should becarefully checked to determine that it will
operate properly and performitsintended function. Check for alignment of
movingparts, bindingof movingparts, breakageof parts, mounting, and any
other conditions that may affect its operation.

Have defective switches replaced by authorized service center. Don't use
tool
if switch does not turn it on and off.
19. GUARD AGAINST ELECTRIC SHOCK. Prevent body contact withgrounded
surfaces. For example; pipes, radiators, ranges, refrigerator enclosures.
20. REPLACEMENTPARTS.When servicing, useonly identicalreplacementparts.
21. POLARIZEDPLUGS: Toreducetheriskof electric shock, thisequipment has
a polarized plug (one blade
is wider than the other). This plug will fit in a
polarizedoutletonlyoneway. Iftheplugdoes notfitfullyintheoutlet, reverse
the plug. If
it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician to installthe
properoutlet. Do not changethe plug inany way.
VOLTAGE WARNING: Beforeconnectingthetoolto a power source(receptacle,
outlet, etc.) be sure the voltage supplied is the same as that specified on the
nameplateof thetool. A powersourcewithvoltage greaterthanthat specifiedfor
thetoolcan resultin
SERIOUS INJURYtothe user-as wellasdamagetothetool.
If indoubt, DO NOT PLUGINTHETOOL. Usinga power sourcewithvoltage less

Attachingabrasive paper
CAUTION
:
Always be sure that the tool is switched off and unpluggedbefore installingor removing
the paper.
Raise the lever. Insert the paper end into
the clamper, aligningthe paper edges even
and parallel with the sides of the base.
(Prebending the paper makes attachment
easier.) Once the paper
is in place, return
the lever to
its originalposition.
Repeat the same processfor the other end
of the base, maintaining the proper paper
tension.
CAUTION:
After insertingthepaper,makesuretheteethoftheclamperhold
it securely.Otherwise
the paper
will belooseandsubjecttoslippage, resulting inunevensandingoperation.
Punchplate
(standardequipment for Model BO4550optional accessoryfor Model8045502)
Whenusingthedustbag, makeholesinthe
paperusingthe punchplateas follows:
Holdthetoolwiththepapersurfacefacing
up.Placethepunchplateoverthepaper
so
that the bent sides of the punch plate are
flushwiththe paperedges.Thenpressthe
punchplateto makeholes
in the paper.
CAUTION:
Be sureto remove the punch plate before
operation.
Dustbag
(standard equipment for Model BO4550
optional accessoryfor Model 8045502)
The use of the dust bag makes sanding
operations cleanand dust collectioneasy.
To attachthe dust bag, fitthe bag's entry
portontothedustspoutonthetool
so that
the hole inthe entry port is just over the
protrusiononthe dust spout.
For the best results, empty the dust bag
when
it becomesabout halffull, tapping it
lightlytoremoveas muchdustas possible.

Switch action
To start the tool, move the switch to the
"ON" position. To stop, movethe switch
tothe
"OFF" position.
Operation
Hold the tool firmly. Turn the tool on and
wait until
it attainsfull speed. Then gently
place the tool on the workpiece surface.
A finishing sander
is generally used to re-
move only
a small amount of material at
a time. Since the quality of the surface is
more important than the amount of stock
removed,do notbear down on the tool.
Keep the base flush with the workpiece
at
all times. Excessive pressure may damage
the paper and shorten tool life.
CAUTION
:
0 Do not block motor vent withyour finger or hand.
0 Never runthe tool without paper. You may seriously damage the pad.
MAINTENANCE
CAUTION :
Always be sure that the tool is switched off and unpluggedbeforeattemptingto perform
inspectionor maintenance.
The tool will stopwhen the carbon brusheswear to
a certain length.
When this occurs, both carbon brushesshould be replaced.
To maintain product SAFETY and RELlABl LITY, repairs, carbon brush inspectionand
replacement, any other maintenance or adjustment should be performed by Makita
Authorizedor FactoryService Centers, always using Makitareplacementparts.
