1 Introduction
1 EPRseries
1-1 Introduction
Thank you for choosing the LGob option for EPR series.
We have taken all possible measures to control the quality of our products.
For the best performance and safe use, handle the product correctly according to this manual.
We have carefully prepared this manual, but if you find any doubtful or unclear points, errors or omission,
please contact us.
1-2 Handling Precautions
In high-voltage power systems, devices can be sometimes exposed to failures caused by
high-voltage.
When using GPIB, connect only devices and cables needed to operate the system.
Although the product is equipped with protection for instantaneous shot circuits, it should not be
operated in the event of repeated short circuits with discharges.
Although we have already applied finely-tuned noise suppression, if the product hangs up or an unset
voltage was output, follow the procedures below.
a. Shut down the product and remove the input power to reset the bus.
b. Turn on the input power to restart it and then send commands from the controller again.
When changing the system, turn off the power to all devices
consisting of the system.
When using this product with the power failure protection turned off,
set the product to local mode, by opening between 8-pin and 15-pin of
the D-Sub connector, and set 0V and 0mA to the setting values.
For details about the procedures, refer to the EPR series instruction manual.

AC line in the event of an output short circuit on the high-voltage power supply. It is recommended
that the input AC line of the CO series be separated from that of the high-voltage power supply as
much as possible.

Download the USB driver from our website and install it.
For installing the USB driver, refer to the USB Driver Installation Guide downloaded.
The delimiter is CR (0DH).

3-6 Upper Connection (-LGob Option)
Set an upper connection device with S8 of the SW1 located on the rear panel of EPR Series with -LGob
option, according to the upper connection device.
OFF: CO-G32, CO-RG, CO-HV, USB-OPT, CO-E32, or -LGob option for our products
ON: CO-OPT2-9, CO-OPT2-25, or CO-OPT4-25
The default setting is “OFF”.
EPR Series, –LGob option
The setting will be loaded when the power supply unit is turned on. Set the SW1-8 to ON or
OFF while the unit is surely turned off. If not, the setting will not be reflected until the unit is
rebooted.

3-7 RS-232C Settings with CO-OPT2-9 or CO-OPT2-25
CO-OPT2-9 or CO-OPT2-25 connection uses three RS-232C signals for communication: TxD, RxD, and
GND. Refer to the following diagrams to make the connection between a controller such as a PC to be
used and CO-OPT2-9 or CO-OPT2-25 properly.

Before setting the DTE/DCE switch, check the pin assignment of the RS-232C port with the instruction
manual of the controller such as PC to be used. If the switch is not set correctly, communication will not be
available.

3-8 RS-485 Settings with CO-OPT4-25
CO-OPT4-25 connection uses five RS-485 signals for communication: TxD+, TxD-, RxD+, RxD-, and
GND. Refer to the following diagram to make the connection between a controller such as a PC to be
used and CO-OPT2-25 properly.

3-9-1 Command Format
Ex.: In order to set the output voltage of the power supply to its maximum rating, write the following.
a) Delimiter
A delimiter must be added at the end of a command string.

Some commands require a parameter.

Wrong commands will be ignored.
d) Unit number
Specify the unit number.
LGob Option #0 to #31, or #AL
The length of a command string is limited to 20 excluding the delimiter.
If it exceeds 20 characters, every 20 characters will be discarded from the beginning
of the string and the rest of 20 or lower characters will be taken.
Ex.: #1 VCN 12.3456789012345 CR (0DH) Total: 25 characters
345 CR (0DH)20 characters are discarded and the rest of
five characters are taken.
In the above case, the command string of “345 CR (0DH)” will be discarded as a wrong command.
If a lot of setting commands are continuously transmitted, commands may not be
accepted due to an overflowed communication buffer.
In this case, insert a wait between commands.

3-9-2 Multi-Command
A command with “AL”specified for the unit number will be effective for all connected power supply
units.
Ex.: a. #AL CH0 FFFF : Sets the output voltage of all power supply units to the maximum rating.
b. #AL SW1 : Turns on the output of all power supply units.
Commands supporting the Multi-command are CH0, CH1, VCN, ICN, VSET, ISET, SW,
REN, and GTL.
3-9-3 Characters Used for Commands
Do not use characters (codes) in in the ASCII code table below.
Use LF (0AH) and CR (0DH) only as delimiters.
Alphabetic characters used in commands are not case sensitive.
Use a space (20H) to separate the unit number, command, and parameter in command strings.

When a readout command is transmitted, the response string and the following delimiter are returned.

3-10-1 RS-232C/RS-485 Communication with CO-OPT2-9/CO-OPT2-25/CO-OPT4-25
It controls EPR series power supply units connected to CO-OPT2-9, CO-OPT2-25, or CO-OPT4-25
via RS-232 or RS-485.
Performing the following steps will output the voltage from the power supply unit.
Do not connect any load to the unit until the operation check is completed.
1) Set the unit number and upper connection device.
Set the unit number to “1”and the upper connection device to “RS-232C”. For details, refer to
[3-6 Upper Connection (LGob Option)] in this Instruction Manual as well as [4-2-1 Startup Menu]
in the EPR series Instruction Manual.
2) Connect CO-OPT2-9/CO-OPT2-25/CO-OPT4-25 to a controller.
Connect CO-OPT2-9/CO-OPT2-25/CO-OPT4-25 with an RS-232C/RS-485 controller such as a
PC. In addition, connect an AC adapter to CO-OPT2-9/CO-OPT2-25/CO-OPT4-25.
3) Connect an EPR series power supply unit to CO-OPT2-9/CO-OPT2-25/CO-OPT4-25.
Connect the optical cable connector (IN) on the rear panel of the power supply unit and
CO-OPT2-9/CO-OPT2-25/CO-OPT4-25 with the CO-OPT optical fiber cable supplied with the
power supply unit.
Always attach a cap on any CO-OPT optical fiber cable connection connector, not in use.
4) Turn on the EPR series power supply unit.
Set the POWER ON/OFF switch to ON.
5) Enable remote control.
Send “#1 REN” from the RS-232C/RS-485 controller.
The REN LED will be lit.
6) Enable the output.
Send “#1 ICN 100”, “#1 OVP100” ,”#1 SW1” from the RS-232C/RS-485 controller.
The OUTPUT LED will be lit.
7) Set the output voltage and output it.
Send “#1 VCN xxxx”from the RS-232C/RS-485 controller.
For “xxxx”, specify a number from 0 to 100.
For details, refer to [3-11-1 Command List].
8) Stop the output.
Send “#1 SW0”from the RS-232C/RS-485 controller.
The OUTPUT LED will go off.
9) End the operation.
Set the POWER ON/OFF switch to OFF.
When CO-OPT2-9/CO-OPT2-25/CO-OPT4-25 is used, the RS-232C/RS-485 controller
may read incorrect characters when the POWER ON/OFF switch of the EPR series is
operated.
In this case, execute the readout command again or turn the POWER switch of the EPR
series to ON and then restart the RS-232C/RS-485 controller to clear the read
characters.

3-10-2 GPIB Communication with CO-G32
It controls EPR series power supply units connected to CO-G32 via GPIB.
Performing the following steps will output the voltage from the power supply unit.
Do not connect any load to the unit until the operation check is completed.
1) Set GPIB address and delimiter.
Using the address setting switch on the rear panel of the CO-G32 sets the GPIB address and
delimiter. For details, refer to the CO-G32 Instruction Manual.
2) Set the unit number and upper connection device.
Set the unit number to “1” and the upper connection switch to OFF to select “CO-G32”.
For details, refer to [3-6 Upper Connection (LGob Option)] in this Instruction Manual as well as
[4-2-1 Startup Menu] in the EPR series Instruction Manual..
3) Connect to GPIB.
Connect a commercially available GPIB cable to the IEEE-488 connector of the CO-G32 to
connect to a GPIB controller such a PC.
4) Connect the EPR series power supply unit to CO-G32.
Connect between the CO-OPT optical cable connection connector (OUT) of the CO-G32 and the
CO-OPT optical cable connection connector (IN) of the power supply unit with the CO-OPT
optical cable supplied with the power supply unit
Always attach a cap on any CO-OPT optical fiber cable connection connector, not in use.
5) Turn on the CO-G32.
Set the POWER ON/OFF switch to ON.
6) Turn on the EPR series power supply unit.
Set the POWER ON/OFF switch to ON.
7) Enable remote control.
Send “#1 REN” from the RS-232C/RS-485 controller.
The REN LED will be lit.
8) Enable the output.
Send “#1 ICN 100”, “#1 OVP100” ,”#1 SW1” from the GPIB controller.
The OUTPUT LED will be lit.
9) Set the output voltage and output it.
Send “#1 VCN xxxx”from the GPIB controller.
For “xxxx”, specify a number from 0 to 100.
For details, refer to [3-11-1 Command List].
10) Stop the output.
Send “#1 SW0”from the GPIB controller.
The OUTPUT LED will go off.
11) End the operation.
Set the POWER ON/OFF switch of the power supply unit to OFF.
12) Disable remote control.
Set the POWER ON/OFF switch of the CO-G32 to OFF

3-10-3 USB Communication with USB-OPT
It controls EPR series power supply units connected to USB-OPT via USB.
Performing the following steps will output the voltage from the power supply unit.
Do not connect any load to the unit until the operation check is completed.
1) Set the unit number and upper connection device.
Set the unit number to “1”and the upper connection device to “USB-OPT”. For details, refer to
[3-6 Upper Connection (LGob Option)] in this Instruction Manual as well as [4-2-1 Startup Menu]
in the EPR series Instruction Manual.
2) Connect USB-OPT to a USB controller.
Connect USB-OPT to a USB controller such as a PC with a commercially available USB cable.
3) Connect an EPR series power supply unit to USB-OPT.
Connect the optical cable connector (IN) on the rear panel of the power supply unit and
USB-OPT with the CO-OPT optical fiber cable supplied with the power supply unit.
Always attach a cap on any CO-OPT optical fiber cable connection connector, not in use.
4) Turn on the EPR series power supply unit.
Set the POWER ON/OFF switch to ON.
5) Enable remote control.
Send “#1 REN” from the USB controller.
The REN LED will be lit.
6) Enable the output.
Send “#1 ICN 100”, “#1 OVP100” ,”#1 SW1” from the USB controller.
The OUTPUT LED will be lit.
7) Set the output voltage and output it.
Send “#1 VCN xxxx”from the USB controller.
For “xxxx”, specify a number from 0 to 100.
For details, refer to [3-11-1 Command List].
8) Stop the output.
Send “#1 SW0”from the USB controller.
The OUTPUT LED will go off.
9) End the operation.
Set the POWER ON/OFF switch to OFF.
