PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Maxon’s PC-50 personal communicator is a five
channel, battery powered, 49 MHz FM two-way radio.
It is designed for general purpose indoor/outdoor use
with an average 1/4 mile operating range. It is com-
pletely compatible with all Maxon 49 MHz radios.
The controls and accessories are easy to use and the
PC-50 does not require an FCC license for operation.
The PC-50 transceiver can be utilized as a completely
portable handheld radio, or attached to a belt and
used with its specially designed headset with boom
microphone for hands-free VOX (voice operated)
operation.
Please take a few minutes to become familiar with
the features and operating instructions of your Maxon

A. Push-to-talk button - Push and hold to transmit (talk); release

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
1) Install the PC-50’s antenna by turning it clockwise
until finger-tight into the antenna receptacle on the top
of the unit. Do not over-tighten.
2) Remove the battery cover and install three (3) new
AA alkaline batteries. When placing the batteries in the
PC-50, the bottom (-) (flat side), of the battery rests on
the spring, and the battery’s top (+) touches the battery
contactbar.
3) Turn the power on/off-volume control dial clock-
wise to a midway point to power the unit and set the
volume.
4) Move the channel selector knob to the desired
channel (A - E) to communicate with other 49 MHz
radio users on the same channel.
5) Use the Call button to send a 1 kHz tone signal
to alert second party you are calling. The red LED
will light when the button is pushed, indicating
the PC-50 is transmitting.
6) Hold the PC-50 about 2-3 inches from your mouth,
press the P-T-T button and speak into the microphone
to transmit. The red LED will light to indicate the
PC-50 is transmitting. Release the P-T-T button to
receive incoming signals.
NOTE: When transmitting (the P-T-T button is pressed)
you will override incoming signals. You will not be able
to receive a message when transmitting and you could
interrupt an incoming message if you accidently key
your P-T-T button.

HEADSET OPERATION
Note: If using the PC-50 as a belt worn radio with the
headset, range will average 1/8th mile or more. When
using the PC-50 as a handheld radio, range will
average 1/4th mile or more.
1) The PC-50 is supplied with a detachable headset
with boom microphone for hands-free operation.
2) Remove the headset from the box and plug the
two-prong connector into the two jacks on top of
the PC-50.
Note: The diameter and length of each prong
varies slightly. Match them to the jacks for correct
connection.
3) Adjust the headband to a comfortable fit, the ear
speaker pad should fit snugly in the center of your ear.
Adjust the boom microphone to a point about an inch
away from your mouth.
4) Follow all instructions under the Operating
Instructions section to install the batteries and antenna.
5) Turn the power on and set the volume to a
midway point.
6) Move the channel selector knob to the desired
channel (A - E) to communicate with other 49 MHz
radio users on the same channel.

7) Select the P-T-T or VOX transmitting mode by
moving the P-T-T/VOX sensitivity control dial into
position.
P-T-T Operation
Turn the dial clockwise to activate the manual push-
to-talk (P-T-T) mode. You will hear a click from the
control dial. Use the PC-50's push-to-talk button (in
combination with your headset boom microphone) for
transmitting. Release the P-T-T button while waiting
to receive a message.
VOX Operation
Turn the dial counter-clockwise to activate the
voice-operated (VOX) mode. You will hear a click
from the control dial. Use the headset's boom micro-
phone instead of the P-T-T button for hands-free
operation - your voice will activate the transmission.
Set the VOX sensitivity (by using the control dial) to
prevent ambient noise from accidentally starting a
transmission.
NOTE: When in the VOX mode, you cannot transmit
if you are receiving an incoming message. You must
wait until the incoming message is completed.

WARRANTY SERVICE INSTRUCTIONS
1) Refer to the Operating Instructions section of
this Owner's Manual for adjustments that may be
applicable to correct your problem.
2) If the above mentioned procedure does not
correct the problem you are experiencing with your
unit, return the unit (with proof of purchase) to the
place of purchase, or call Maxon's Customer Service
Department for assistance.

LIMITED WARRANTY STATEMENT
The Consumer Products Division of Maxon America, Inc.
(hereinafter referred to as “Maxon”), warrants that its
Products and their included accessories will be free from
defects in workmanship or materials under normal use for
a period of ninety (90) days from date of purchase by the
original end user, provided that the buyer has complied with
the requirements stated herein.
If the Product fails to function under normal use because of
manufacturing defect(s) or workmanship during the ninety
(90) day period following the date of purchase, it will be
replaced or repaired at Maxon’s option at no charge when
returned to the place of purchase. The defective unit must
be accompanied by proof of the date of purchase in the
form of a sales receipt.
Maxon’s sole obligation hereunder shall be to replace or
repair the Product covered in this Warranty. Replacement,
at Maxon’s option, may include a similar or higher-featured
product. Repair may include the replacement of parts or
boards with functionally equivalent reconditioned or new
parts or boards. Replaced parts, accessories, batteries or
boards are warranted for the balance of the original time
period. All replaced parts, accessories, batteries or boards
become the property of Maxon America, Inc.
Maxon shall have no obligation to make repairs or to
cause replacement required which result from normal wear
and tear or necessitated in whole or in part by catastrophe,
the fault or negligence of the user, improper or unauthorized

alterations, repairs to the Product, incorrect wiring, use of
the Product in a manner for which it was not designed, or
by causes external to the Product. This warranty is void if the
serial number is altered, defaced or removed.
The purchaser shall provide for removal of the defective
Product and installation of its replacement.
THE EXPRESS WARRANTIES CONTAINED HEREIN ARE
IN LIEU OF ALL OTHER WARRANTIES, EITHER EXPRESSED
OR IMPLIED OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING, WITHOUT
LIMITATION, ANY WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY
OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.
FOR ANY PRODUCT THAT DOES NOT COMPLY WITH
THE WARRANTY SPECIFIED, THE SOLE REMEDY WILL
BE REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT. IN NO EVENT WILL
MAXON AMERICA, INC. BE LIABLE TO THE BUYER FOR
ANY DAMAGES, INCLUDING ANY SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL,
INDIRECT OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, OR THE
LOSS OF PROFIT, REVENUE OR DATA ARISING OUT OF
THE USE OF, OR THE INABILITY TO USE THE PRODUCT.

DESCRIPCION DEL PRODUCTO
El comunicador personal PC-50 de Maxon, es un radio-
transmisor de FM de 49 MHz, bidireccional, de cinco
canales, que funciona con baterías. Está diseñado para
su uso con fines generales, al aire libre o bajo techo,
con un alcance operativo promedio de 1/4 de milla. Es
completamente compatible con todos los radios de 49
MHz. Los controles y accesorios son fáciles de usar y
el PC-50 no requiere una licencia de la FCC para su
operación.
El radiotransmisor PC-50 puede ser utilizado como una
radio portátil de mano, o se puede colgar del cinturón
y usarse con sus audífonos especialmente diseñados
con micrófono de jirafa para una operación de "manos

INSTRUCCIONES DE OPERACION
1) Para instalar la antena del PC-50 enrósquela en el
sentido que giran las manecillas del reloj (apriete con
los dedos hasta que quede firme) en el receptáculo
para antena (en la parte de arriba de la unidad). No la
apriete demasiado.
2) Saque la tapa del compartimiento de las baterías e
instale tres (3) baterías nuevas alcalinas AA. Cuando
coloque las baterías en el PC-50, el fondo negativo (-)
(lado plano) de la batería descansa en el resorte, y el
tope de la batería (+) toca la barra de contacto de la
batería.
3) Gire el botón de control de volumen y de on/off
en el sentido que giran las manecillas del reloj hasta
un punto medio, para darle corriente a la unidad y fijar
el volumen.
4) Mueva el botón selector de canales hasta el canal
deseado (A - E) para comunicarse con otros usuarios de
radios de 49 MHz en el mismo canal.
5) Use el botón de "Call" para enviar una señal de
tono de 1 kHz para alertar a una segunda persona que
usted está llamando. La luz roja LED se encenderá
cuando se empuja el botón, indicando que el PC-50
está transmitiendo.
6) Sostenga el PC-50 a 2-3 pulgadas de su boca,
presione el botón P-T-T y hable en el micrófono para

transmitir. La luz roja LED se encenderá para indicar
que el PC-50 está transmitiendo. Deje de presionar
el botón P-T-T para recibar señales entrantes.
NOTA: Cuando esté transmitiendo (el botón P-T-T
está oprimido) no podrá oír las señales entrantes.
Usted no podrá recibir un mensaje cuando esté
transmitiendo y podría interrumpir un mensaje
entrante si accidentalmente oprime el botón P-T-T.
OPERACION DE LOS AUDIFONOS
NOTA: Si utiliza el PC-50 como un radio llevado en
el cinturón (con los audífonos), el alcance será de 1/8
de milla o más. Cuando utiliza el radio PC-50 como
una radio de mano, el alcance será de un promedio de
1/4 de milla o más.
1) El PC-50 se ofrece con audífonos separables con
micrófono de jirafa para una operación de "manos
libres".
2) Quite los audífonos de la caja enchufe el conector
de dos puntas en los dos enchufes en la parte superior
del PC-50.
NOTA: El diámetro y la longitud de cada punta
varía ligeramente. Verifique que correspondan a
los enchufes para su conexión correcta.
3) Ajuste la banda de cabeza para que le quede
cómodamente, la almohadilla del altavoz auricular
debe quedar bien acomodada en el centro del oído.
