Thisequipmentgeneratesradiofrequencyenergyandifnotinstalledinaccordance
withthemanufacturer’sinstructions,maycauseradiofrequencyinterference.
ThisequipmentcomplieswithPart15,SubpartJoftheFCCrulesforaClassA
computingdevice. ThisequipmentalsocomplieswiththeClass Alimitsforradio
noiseemissionfromdigitalapparatussetoutintheRadioInterferenceRegulationof
theCanadianDepartmentofCommunications.Theseaboverulesaredesignedto
providereasonableprotectionagainstsuchinterferencewhenoperatingthe

2. Introduction
TheDX UserIP fromMinicomAdvancedSystemsredirectslocalkeyboard,mouse
and videodatatoa remotecomputer. Alldata istransmittedvia IP.
DX UserIP featuresremoteKVMaccess and controlvia aLANorInternet
connection. DX UserIP providesa non-intrusivesolutionforremoteaccess and
control. Remoteaccess and controlsoftwarerunsontheDX UserIP embedded
processorsonlyandnotontheservers, sothereisnointerferencewithserver
operationorimpactonnetworkperformance.
Using oneorseveralDX UserIPswiththeDX Centralallowsaccess tomultiple
remoteserversvia singleremoteconsole. TheDX UserIP combinesdigitalremote
KVMaccess via IP networkswitha comprehensiveandintegratedsystem
management.
Figure1illustratesthebasicconfigurationoftheDX systemwiththeDX UserIP

100 Mbpsconnection
For100BASE-TXFastEthernetnetworks, theDX UserIP supportsCategory5UTP
cabling. Toestablisha 100Mbpsconnection, thecablemustbeconnectedtoa
100BASE-TXhub.
1.Makesurethatthecableiswiredappropriatelyfora standard100BASE-TX
adapter.
2.AligntheRJ-45 plugwiththenotchontheadapter'sconnectorand insertitinto
theadapter'sconnector.
Note!TheUTP/FTPwirepairsand configurationfor100BASE-TXcableare

If youactivateDHCP,DX UserIP triestocontactaDHCPserveronthenetwork.
TheDHCP serverprovidesa validIP address, gatewayaddress and subnetmask. If
theDHCP connectionfailsonbootup, DX UserIP bootswiththelastknownIP
configuration.

OperatetheDX UserIP systemthroughoneofthefollowinginterfaces:
1. HTTP/HTTPS -AnystandardWebbrowser. DependingontheWebbrowser, you
canaccess theDX UserIP cardusing theunsecuredHTTP protocolor, incasethe
browsersupportsit,theencryptedHTTPSprotocol. Werecommend usingHTTPS
whenpossible.
3.Telnet-Usea standardTelnetclienttoaccess anarbitrarydeviceconnectedto
oneoftheDX UserIP'sserialportsvia a terminalmode.
2.SNMP(SimpleNetworkManagementProtocol)-AnystandardSNMPclientcan
usethisprotocol.
AlltheaboveinterfacesareaccessedusingtheTCP/IP protocol. Theycanthusbe
usedvia thebuilt-inEthernetadapterormodem.

Transmission Encoding
TransmissionEncodingoptimizesthespeedoftheremotescreendependingonthe
numberofparallelusersand thebandwidthoftheconnectionline.
AutomaticDetection- Theencodingandthecompressionlevelisdetermined
automaticallyfromtheavailablebandwidthandthecurrentcontentofthevideo
image.
Pre-configured –Choosetheconnection method.

ThisforcestheRemoteConsolesofallotheruserstoclose. Noonecanopenthe
RemoteConsoleuntilthisuserdisablestheExclusiveAccess orlogsoff.
RemoteConsoleType
DefaultJavaVM –UsesyourBrowser’sdefaultJavaVirtualMachine. Thismay
betheMicrosoftJVMforInternetExplorerorSunJREifitisconfiguredthisway.
UseoftheSunJREmayalsobeforced(seebelow).
SunMicrosystemsJavaBrowser Plugin -UsesSunMicrosystemsJava Browser
Plugin-Setstheadministrationsystem’sWebbrowsertousetheJRE(Java
RuntimeEnvironment)ofSunMicrosystems. JREisusedtorunthecodeforthe
RemoteConsolewindow, whichisactuallya Java Applet. If theJava plug-inisnot
installedonyoursystem, itwillbedownloadedandinstalledautomatically. The
downloadisabout15 Mbytes. JREprovidesa stableandidenticalJava Runtime
Environmentacross differentplatforms.TheRemoteConsolesoftwareisoptimized
forthisJREversionandofferswiderrangeoffunctionalitywhenruninSUN'sJRE.
Tip! ThesoftwareisonthesuppliedCD. So, ifyouhavea slowInternetconnection,
pre-installtheJREon youradministrationmachine.
ActiveXcontrol -UseanActiveXcontrolinsteadofa Javaapplet-Thisisthe
ActiveX-ControloftheKVMVisionViewer-anapplicationavailableseparately.
Youmustinstall thevieweronyourlocalsystem. SeetheViewerGuideforfurther
information. ThisoptiononlyworkswithMicrosoftInternetExploreronWin32
Systems. KVMVisionViewerisonthesuppliedCD.
Mousehotkey -UsedforfastmousesynchronizationinDoubleMousemodeandto
freethegrabbedmousewheninsinglemousemode.
RemoteConsoleButtonKeys -Button Keyssimulatekeystrokesontheremote
systemthatcannotbegeneratedlocally. Forexample`Control+Alt+Delete'on
Windowsand DOS or`Control+Backspace'onLinux.
Definea newButtonKeyasfollows:
Typetherequiredkeyse.g. Ctrl+Alt+Delete. The+signmeansthatthekeysare

ConnecttoDX UserIP intheusualwayrequiredbytheTelnetclient, e.g. ina
UNIXshell: telnet192.168.1.22–(TheIP addresshasbeenreplacedbytheone
thatisactuallyassignedtoDX UserIP).
Typea usernameandpasswordwhenprompted. Theseareidenticaltothoseofthe
Webinterface. TheusermanagementoftheTelnetinterfaceiscontrolledjustlike
theWebinterface.
Onceloggedin, thecommandlineappearstotypemanagementcommands.
Theinterfacesupportsboththecommandlineandterminalmodes. Thecommand
linemodeisusedtocontrolordisplaysomeparameters. Interminalmodethe
passthrough access toserialport1isactivated(iftheserialsettingsweremade
accordingly). Allinputsareredirectedtothedeviceon serialport1and theanswers
appearon theTelnetinterface.
