This quick start guide in meant to allow the reader a basic understanding of the function detailed
and to outline the most basic requirements for sample operation of the function.
Before attempting actual machine operation or to find more advanced information, please refer to
the V500 Instruction Manual and the appropriate option instruction manual if so applicable.
1. Concept
The V500 series inverter is capable of performing conditional position feed function-using contact
inputs. Movement enable is determined by status of Servo On (LX). Movement direction is
determined by Start Forward (STF) or Start Reverse (STR) selection. Movement speed is
determined by parameter settings. Movement length is determined by parameter settings.
2. Valid Inverter Modes
This function is valid for only the following modes:
•External (EXT)
•Network (NET)
•Combined (Pr.79 = 4)
3. Required Parameters Settings
Parameter settings requiring change from factory setting to allow function operation.

4. Data Parameter Setting Details
Set position command value using position feed amount parameters as a set of two.
Formula: resolution of encoder x number of motor rotations x 4 = position feed amount
Example: To rotate motor 100 revolutions using 1024 ppr encoder and terminal RH
1024 x 100 x 4 = 409600 (feed amount)
Pr. 466 (upper 4 digits) = 0040 Pr. 465 (lower 4 digits) = 9600
Example: To rotate motor 1.25 revolutions using 1024 ppr encoder and terminal RM
1024 x 1.25 x 4 = 5120 (feed amount)
Pr. 468 (upper 4 digits) = 0Pr. 467 (lower 4 digits) = 5120

6. Operation
•Acceleration/deceleration time is 0.1s minimum and 360s maximum
•Acceleration/deceleration reference speed (Pr.20) is clamped at a minimum of 500 rpm.
•Deceleration time can be set in Pr. 464 “digital position control sudden stop deceleration
time”.
•At this time, the acceleration/deceleration patterns are all linear and the setting of Pr. 29
“acceleration/deceleration pattern” is invalid.

7. Related Parameters

the deviation counter.

425 Position feed forward command filter Delay filter in response to the feed forward
command.
426 In-position width In-position signal (Y36) turns on when the
droop pulses are less than this setting.
427 Excessive level error Alarm generated when droop pulses
exceed this value.

8. Troubleshooting
Phenomenon Cause Corrective Action
(1) The phase sequence of the motor or
encoder wiring is wrong. Check the wiring
(2) The control mode selection, Pr.800
setting in incorrect. Pr.800 = 3
(3) The servo on (LX) signal or start signal
(STF or STR) is not on.
Check that the LX has been
assigned in Pr. 180~183, 187
and signals are input correctly.
(4) The position command right selection,
Pr.419, is not set to 0. Pr.419 = 0
(5) If (4) is correct, the position feed
amount (Pr.465 to 494) is not set correctly. Verify the values in these parameters.
(6) If (4) and (5) are correct, position speed
feed (Pr.4~6,24~27,232~239) are not set
correctly.
Verify that correct speed
values have been set.
(7) If (4), (5) and (6) are correct, preset
speed terminals (Pr.180~183, 187) are not
assigned correctly.
Verify that RH, RM, RL and
REX have been selected and
are activated.
1Motor does

(8) If all of the above are correct verify
input terminal sequence. Sequence: LX, preset speed, STF (STR).
Decrease the PWM carrier
frequency in Pr.72
2Position shift
occurs Encoder feedback is affected by noise. Change the shielded cable
earthing (grounding) location.
The position loop gain is too high. Decrease Pr.422 setting
Perform easy gain tuning.
3Motor or
machine hunts The speed loop gain is too high. Decrease Pr.820 and increase
Pr.821.
4Machine operation is
unstable
The acceleration/deceleration time setting
has adverse effect. Decrease Pr.7 and Pr.8 settings.

The speed command of position control relates to speed control.
Refer to V500 instruction manual for details.
Position control is not
