Inspect Shipment for Damage
Carefully inspect the entire shipment for damage in the presence of the shipper’s
agent, removing packaging material if necessary. Note any damage to packaging
and/or goods on Packing List and have it signed by the shipper’s agent prior to
accepting the shipment. Submit damage claim to MRU immediately.
NOTE: Damage claims not received by MRU within 3 days of receipt of shipment will
not be accepted.
Important notice!
This high quality electronic analyzer utilizes batteries that discharge even when the
analyzer is not in use. Therefore it is very important to charge the batteries (Li-Ion)
every 4 - 6 weeks, even if the analyzer is not in use.
Failing to properly charge the batteries will void yo r warranty!
Save the original box and the packing material for use if the analyzer must be
shipped in the future.
The products described in this manual are subject to continuous development and

1. General information
1.1. The company MRU GmbH
Your analyzer is produced by the MRU GmbH in Neckarsulm Germany (founded in
1984), a medium sized company that specializes in developing, producing and
marketing high quality emission monitoring analyzers. MRU GmbH produces a
wide range of instruments, from standard analyzers up to tailor made industrial
analyzers. MRU GmbH contact details are listed on the previous page.
1.2. Important general information (EN 50379) and VDI 4206
This analyzer is not designed to be used for continuous measurements.
Before using the analyzer verify the condition of the various parts of the analyzer,
such as the probe, the ambient air conditions, the condensate separator, star filter
and the connectors for damage and/or blockages.
When starting up the analyzer it will take between 1 – 3 minutes to set to zero
depending on the condition of the sensors and of ambient.
The minimum zeroing time of the analyzer to achieve correct measurement values
can be expected by 1.5 minutes!
Ca tion: Exposure to acids; aggressive gases such as sulphur; vapours such as
thinners, gasoline, alcohol and paint, etc. can damage, reduce the life of, or destroy
the sensors.
The life of the sensors depends on how they are used, maintained and treated.
Typical average life expectations are: O

- 2 years; CO - 2 - 3 years and NO - 3 years.
The use of the analyzer for regulatory purposes is subject to special regulations (for
example a periodical examination of the analyzer). Please obtain the appropriate
regulations from your local responsible authority.
The battery life is at least 00 charge-discharge cycles. With increasing number of cycles
is reduced specified in the technical data devices operating time per battery charge.

1.3. Important information abo t the sers/operation man al
The users/operation manual is an important part of this delivery. It will explain how
to use this analyzer properly and sets forth safety and environmentally friendly
procedures.
It is the responsibility of all users to read and familiarize themselves with this
manual, paying particular attention to the safety instructions.
The most important safety details are clearly marked with an attention sign.
1.4. Designated se of this analyzer
The analyzer DELTAsmart is intended for short-term measurement in the context of
emission control measurements and adjustments at small furnaces. The analyzer
measures the measurements provided by VDI42 6 and EN5 379 metrics and stores
them for further processing.
The meter is specifically not intended as a safety device or personal protective
equipment; it should not be used as a warning device to warn people against the
presence of harmful gases.
1.5. Safety information
The following safety procedures must to be followed at all times. They are a
significant and essential part of this manual. Failure to follow safety procedures can
result in the loss of your warranty claims.
Safety reg lations
The analyzer may only be used as indicated in this manual. Our analyzers are
checked according to the following regulations:
VDE 0411 (EN61010) and DIN VDE 0701 before they leave the MRU GmbH factory.
MRU technical products are designed and manufactured according to DIN 31000/
VDE 1000 and UVV = VBG 4 of the professional guilds for fine mechanics and
electrical engineering.
MRU GmbH assures that the analyzer complies to the essential requirements of the
legal regulations of the member states of the electro-magnetic compatibility
(89/336/EWG) and to the low-voltage regulations (3/23/EWG).
Specific safety reg lations
Use only the battery charger supplied with the analyzer for this instrument.
No part of the analyzer, including the metal probe tube and all other metal parts &
accessories are to be used as electric conductors.
The analyzer is not to be used in or under water.
The analyzer is not to be placed near or directly exposed to open fire or heat.
The specified probe temperature range is not to be exceeded, as the probe,
temperature sensory mechanism and sensor could be damaged or destroyed.
The analyzer shall void dropping.
Attention:
Moisture, being pumped out of the condensates trap can be slightly acidic.
In case of skin contact IMMEDIATELY: clean affected parts of the body.
Avoid getting liquid in eyes.
Please carefully clean all parts that come into contact with the condensates.
After measurement, vent the analyzer with ambient air and allow the probe to cool.
A hot probe could cause burns or ignite flammable material.

•The battery pack is not accessibly for end users
•Li-Ion rechargeable battery pack for NOVAplus
•Do not heat or throw the battery pack of in fire.
Do not charge and leave the battery pack at the high temperature.
•Do not deform, short-circuit, disassemble or modify the battery pack
•Do not allow the battery to be immersed in or wetted with water or sea
water
•Do not subject the battery pack to a strong impact or throw it
•Do not cut, squeeze, tear at the cables of the battery pack
•Do not carry or store the battery pack together with material which have
sharp edges or is electrical conductive in the same custody
•Not letting (+) terminal come in contact with (-) terminal or metal
•The above items may cause heat, fire and explosion
1.6. Packing
Packing reg lation of 12.07.1991
If your local waste facility does not except MRU packing materials for disposal, you
may return it to MRU or our local sales representative. Packing materials returned to
MRU must be returned prepaid.
1.7. Ret rn of hazardo s waste
- Waste Disposal/Returns/Warranty -
MRU GmbH is required to accept the return of hazardous waste such as electro-
chemical sensors that cannot be disposed of locally. Hazardous waste must be
returned to MRU prepaid.
1.8. Ret rn of analyzer according to ElektroG
MRU GmbH is required to accept the return, for proper disposal, of all analyzers
delivered after 13
th
of August 2 5. Analyzers must be returned to MRU prepaid.

2. Analyzer description
2.1. Introd ction
The main task of the flue gas analyzer DELTAsmart is the support of the following
applications:
•Precise control and adjustment measurements of gas, oil and wood fired
burners / heaters
•Flue gas measurement according to 1. BImSchV und KÜO

In combination with the probe the DELTAsmart extract a certain amount of flue
gases from the stack and analyses these using electrochemical sensors. Draft and
temperature are measured at the probe tip of the probe tube.

2.2. The analyzer
The compact analyzer is made out of a fiber re-enforced plastic material with all
measurement related connections at the bottom of the analyzer. The analyzer is
operated exclusively using the touch screen display.
2.3. Condensate separator
During the measurement condensate is extracted and collected in the condensate
separator. Please note, the maximal amount of condensate is marked on the
condensate show glass. To avoid condensate getting inside the analyzer, the
condensate separator has to be drained frequently.
Please note, the collected condensate can be slightly acidic.

2.4. Probes
The DELTAsmart is available with either a probe with fixed probe tube or with
exchangeable probe tubes. A complete list of available probe options can be found
in our effective price list.
Here are 2 possible options:

3. Operating the analyzer
3.1. T rn on- off
The DELTAsmart is switched on and off using the display.
Simply touch the display and then press the green ON button which will appear.
The analyzer is switched off using the OFF button in the context menu.
The analyzer turns off when the OFF symbol is touched.
When the analyzer has been switched on the analyzer will perform a self-test and
then zero the installed sensors. At this point the analyzer and probe have to be at
ambient air and the pressure sensors have to be unpressurized.
3.2. F nction keys
In all operation windows there are pre-defined function keys at the top and the
bottom of the screen.
At the top of the screen these are mostly the return key and the context menu key.
At the bottom of the screen these are mostly the page up and page down keys.
Dependent on the page that you are currently on, the function keys can have
different functions to allow faster access.
3.3. Context men
The context menu-button offers additional functions. When pressing the context
key you will see a variety of functions related to the window that you are currently
in.
There are also general functions like: switch off analyzer, exit window, close context
menu without action.

3.4. Gas meas rement (fl e gas)
The gas exit opening on the rear of the analyzer may never be covered during a flue
gas measurement.
Start: starting a gas measurement using the current activated program and fuel
type.
After pressing „gas measurement“the selection for the program and fuel types will
be available.
The measuring screens can display a total of 2 measurement values, distributed
over 5 pages with 4 values on each page. You can jump from page to page by:
•Either press the context menu key and the select page + or page -,
•Or simply touch the left or right border of the display to jump to the next or
previous page.

3.5. Draft- / press re meas rement in the fl e gas meas rement
The draft is measured using the DELTAsmart in combination with the extraction
probe either before or after gas measurement.
While inside the measurement window you press the context menu key and then
select the draft/pressure key. During this phase the gas pump stops working and
gas measurement values are frozen.
In the draft/pressure screen the measured values will be displayed. These values
can be carried over as either draft or pressure value into the gas measurement
screen. (The difference between these 2 values are basically the pre-sign and name
before the value – a draft in the stack will be displayed as positive draft)
With the return key you switch back to the gas measurement and the measured
draft value will be visible (unmodifiable) in a different color.

The DELTAsmart has all available functions available in 3 main menus:
Measurement, Storage and Extras.
From each of the above mentioned menus one can switch over to the next or
previous menu by using the context key and then select the menu you want to go
to.
•Measurement menu: Here are all measurement related functions available. All
installed
and available measurement options can be selected here.
•Storage menu: Here all storage related functions are available like site
administration, data memory, data transfer and so on.
•Extras menu: Here are all administration related functions available.

4. First start p
Once you have established that the analyzer is ready for use, you can make typical
first time use adjustments. Of course, these types of adjustments can also be made
at any time later.
4.1. Operation availability of the analyzer
•Unpack the analyzer, read the complete operation manual
•The analyzer left our factory completely assembled and ready for use
We do however recommend to check if the analyzer came with all options and
that it has arrived without any damages.
•Recommendation: charge the battery for about 8 hours
•Check and change date and time if necessary
4.2. Analyzer config rations
In the main menu „Extras“using the „Settings“menu, you can modify the following:

4.3. Adj st Date and time
Using E XTRA / D ATE /T IME date and time can be viewed and adjusted if needed. This
analyzer has an automatic adaptation for day time savings time (only Europe).
In case the battery has been drained completely, time and date have to be adjusted
once the battery has been charged again.
4.4. Config re meas rement programs
There are 4 programs available for gas measurement. The programs define the
following parameters:
•A selection of fuel types: a selection of the maximal fuel type list
•Measurement window: define the 4 measurement values for each of the 5
measurement windows
•Program name
Pre-defined measurement programs are
•„Program 1 ... Program 4
•„Test program“ this is used in the chimney sweeper trade for evaluation – there
is no fuel type selection
The configuration of each measurement program can be done after the selection of
a program using M EASUREMENT / G AS M EASUREMENT key.
4.5. Set CO Limit parameters
High CO concentrations in the gas stream can shorten the life span of your CO
sensor. The DELTAsmart can warn the user if the analyzer exceeds a pre-defined CO
limit. There will be both an acoustic and visual signal, the DELTAsmart has NO
active CO overload protection! In case the pre-defined CO limit is active you will
have to remove the probe from the stack or you take action to lower the CO values.
The CO limit can be defined for each of the 4 measurement programs.
Using during the measuring the context menu and you can press the CO limit key –
the CO limit can be changed in 1 ppm steps.

4.6. F el type selection and O2 reference
After selecting a measurement program you can select or add fuel types. You can
define what fuel types you want to see for each measurement program by using
the fuel type list.
Select the context menu key and then select fuel type list.
4.7. User definable f el types
There are 4 user definable fuel types available. These can be individually adjusted,
fuel type parameters can be set. Just as all other fuel types these fuel types can be
activated or deactivated for usage.
REMARK: The user definable fuel types are the last in the fuel type list and
they are clearly displayed in green.
4.8. Define the display
The DELTAsmart can display 2 measurement values – 4 values on 5 pages. The
user can define in what order he wants to see the available measurement values.
Please select M EASURING W INDOW – C ONTEXT M ENU – D EFINE W INDOW . You will then select the line
that needs to be modified and with left and/or right you can view and select
available parameters. This procedure will be done for each line.
When completed you will exit this window using the button.
