Beef O’Brady’s is an established neighborhood “family sports pub” franchise with nearly 150
restaurants in the Southeastern United States. Ken Thomas, a veteran food distributor, decided
to go into business for himself, and open his first Beef O’Brady’s in Louisville, Kentucky.

the challenge
Because his Beef O’Brady’s sits off the main area of town, Thomas knew he needed to have a
competitive edge to draw customers in and keep them spreading the word.
First, Thomas visited several local sports restaurants in the Louisville area to experience the types
of entertainment technology they offered. Some pubs had large projection TVs that took up
valuable floor space. Others had TVs with poor picture quality or limited area for TV viewing.
None of the applications were particularly exciting, and the viewing technology seemed more of
an afterthought rather than a priority.
As a result, Beef O’Brady’s was even more convinced that they could gain a competitive edge
with cutting edge display technology for their diehard sports fans and family customers.
the solution
Thomas decided to set his Beef O’Brady’s apart by creating a high tech sports facility. The set up
had to be high quality, but within budget, and the technology needed to be visible from almost
every seat in the restaurant.
After considering LCD displays, big screen televisions (including the new DLP TVs), flat panel
displays and residential plasmas, Thomas decided that commercial plasmas were the best fit for
his demanding 24/7 restaurant application. He decided to purchase three 42-inch NEC
commercial plasmas with HDTV. The high-resolution, broad compatibility and flexible
connections – coupled with NEC’s long-standing reputation as an industry leader – sold Thomas
on NEC plasma technology!
In addition to the NEC plasmas, Beef O’Brady’s purchased an NEC LT240 projector. The
lightweight projector is used to broadcast major sporting events and train staff. Thomas chose
this projector because it is an affordable choice for high-resolution display for a variety of
applications, and features a short throw lens that allows Beef O’Brady’s to project large screen
images over short distances. They can even control and monitor the projector remotely through
a wired or wireless LAN function.

their Fantasy Football stats on websites using a personal computer hooked up to the projector.
