Applications at the forefront of technology
AnchorBank is a $3.59 billion consumer-oriented bank and Wisconsin's largest
thrift, offering personal and business banking services to more than 130,000
households in over 50 locations throughout a 19-county area.
the challenge
AnchorBank was looking for a more dynamic way to provide customers information
about its latest banking programs. Until this point, AnchorBank had relied primarily
on print posters to advertise promotions in its bank lobbies, an approach that was
not generating much interest and created significant clutter.
AnchorBank sought a solution that would not only eliminate the large amount of
paper waste they accumulated by using posters, but also one that could be quickly
and easily changed and have more impact than other promotional materials that
many customers didn’t even read.
the solution
AnchorBank turned to NEC to provide a 42” commercial plasma display in each of
its bank lobbies to show AnchorBank banking programs and promotions. Now they
display promotional signage vividly, control it remotely, and change the content
quickly.

“Since installing the
NEC plasma displays,
AnchorBank has not
only eliminated the
clutter, but we've also
received increased
customer interest in
the promotions
advertised on the
sleek, eye-catching
NEC displays.”
the benefits
Thanks to NEC’s plasmas’ built-in timer, AnchorBank has been able to easily program
the plasmas to operate during bank business hours and to shut off automatically
when the banks are closed. With the plasmas’ anti-glare screen filter, customers can
clearly read the content, no matter how bright the light is in the lobby. The NEC
displays have also given AnchorBank a new level of control in managing their
promotions.
“I can control what’s on the displays and change the content fairly quickly,” said Julie
Kirchner, marketing communications manager for AnchorBank. “Now, when a
promotion ends, I don’t have to worry about someone in the bank taking down and
throwing away the posters – I can just program the content to change.”
Since installing the NEC plasma displays, AnchorBank has not only eliminated the
clutter, but we've also received increased customer interest in the promotions
advertised on the sleek, eye-catching NEC displays.
“When you put posters up in the lobby, they tend to become wallpaper and after a
while, no one reads them,” said Kirchner. “The NEC plasmas are always changing,
so it’s visually much more interesting and there is a greater tendency to look at the
board. The first time people see the NEC plasma display they tend to sit right in front
of it and watch it for a while – I think they’re a bit mesmerized by it.”
After nearly a year of operation, it has cost Anchor roughly the same operational
cost to feature the plasma displays versus print posters. In addition, AnchorBank has
experienced maintenance-free operation.
