BEFORE ASSEMBLING
Before installing this Additional Memory Board in your basic processing unit (including NEC
Express Server), carefully read through and understand the precautions for use described in
the Getting Started supplied with the basic processing unit to use the product safely.
We recommend that you have your local service/maintenance center do this expansion work.

WARNING
If you disregard the precautions, it may cause malfunction of the device, human body injury,
fire and/or damage to the machine parts around the device.
Unplug the power plug
Make sure to unplug the power plug from the electrical outlet and
unplug the cables connected to external devices from the
machine before installing or removing the product.
Touching the device of the NEC Express server with its power
plug connected to a power source may cause an electric shock
even if the NEC Express server is powered off.

Caution
Follow these notes when you install the Memory Board.
Do not put the Additional Memory in a dusty place.
Do not put the Additional Memory in a place where water or liquid is likely to splash onto the
board.
Do not put the Additional Memory in a place where steam of sulfur occurs in the air.
Do not put the Additional Memory in magnetic field.
Do not touch any terminal pin of Additional Memory.
Transfer to a Third Party
When transferring (or selling) this product to a third party, please make sure to
provide this guide along with the product.

Memory Clock
The server supports the memory clock speed of DDR3L-1066/1333/1600MHz. However, the actual memory clock
speed depends on CPU and memory configuration. (All of DIMMs installed operate at the same clock speed.)

1. DIMM installation order
Note DIMM installation order in 1-CPU configuration differs from that in 2-CPU
configuration.
If CPU2 is not installed, CPU2_DIMM1 to CPU2_DIMM6 are disabled.
Refer to List of features supported by additiional memory board before using
memory RAS feature.
In 1-CPU configuration, install two DIMMs starting from the smallest slot number.
In 2-CPU configuration, alternately install two DIMMs starting from the smallest slot number of each CPU.
Installation order depends on combination of DIMMs to be installed. See the table below to find allowable
combination of DIMMs, and install DIMMs starting from the largest capacity and from the smallest slot
number.

2. Installation procedure
(1) Checking where the memory board is installed.
(2) Remove the side cover and CPU duct according to "Preparing for Installation and Removal"
described in the User's Guide.
(3) Make sure of the socket to install DIMM.
Refer to the User's Guide of the server for locations of DIMM sockets on mother board (see
the following figure).

(4) Memory board installation procedure
a. The memory board has cutouts to prevent incorrect insertion. Please orient the board so
that the connector polarity and board cutouts match. (See the following figure)
b. Insert the board vertically on the connector. Press the levers at each end of the connector
so that they fasten the half-circle shaped cutouts on each edge of the board. (See the
following figure)
(5) Continue to install or remove internal optional devices, mount and connect the server, and
turn it on.
(6) Confirm that no error messages are displayed in POST screen.
If any error messages are displayed, refer to Chapter 3 (2.BIOS Setup Utility) for BIOS Setup Utility in
“User’s Guide”.
(7) Run BIOS Setup Utility, and select Memory Configuration and then Memory Information
from the Advanced menu. Make sure the capacity of added DIMM is displayed properly.
Refer to Chapter 3 (2.BIOS Setup Utility) for BIOS Setup Utility in “User’s Guide”.
(8) Select Memory Configuration from the Advanced menu, and then specify Yes for Memory
Retest.
After that, select Save Changes and Exit to reboot.
