Shadows will be visible in pho t os where the light from thebuilt-in flash is obscured by
the lens or l ens hood. Remove the lens hood before shoot i ng . Note, however, t hat even
if the hood is removed, shadows may still be visib le at some foca l lengths and subject

Lens Care
• Remov i ng dust is normally sufficien t to clean the gl ass su r faces of the lens.
• The fluorine-coated front lens element can be cleaned as described be l ow.
- Smudges. fingerprints, and other oily sta i ns can be removed using a soft, clean cot -
ton clo th or lens cleaning tissue; clean from the center outwards using ac ir cular
mot i on
- To remove stubborn st ains, wi pe gently using a soft cloth l igh t ly dampened with a
sma ll amoun t of dist i lled water, ethanol, or l ens cleaner.
- Any drop - shaped ma r ks l eft from this process on the water - and o il -r epe ll ent sur -
face can subsequently be removed with a dry cloth.
• Whe n cleaning the rear lens element, whkhis not fluorine - coated , remove smudges. fingerpr int s,
and o th er oily stains using a soft, clean cotton cloth or lens cleaning ti ssue light ly
dampened with a small amount of ethanol or lens cl eaner. Wipe gently from the cen-
ter outwards in a circu l ar mot i on, tak i ng care not to l eave smea rs or touch the l ens
with your fingers.
• Never use organic solvents such as paint thi nner or benzene to clean the lens.
• Neutral Color (NC) filters (available separately) and the like can be used to pro t ec t the
front lens element.
• If the lens will not be used for an extended period, sto reit in a cool, dry locat i on to
prevent mold and rust. Do not store in direct sunlight or with naphtha or campho r
moth ba l ls
